Everyone who goes out hunting for gems wants to find a stone which can be cut into a beautiful gem, to be mounted in a ring, necklace or ear ring to give to someone special.
Here is a selection of such gemstones from our many fossicking trips. You'll see sapphire, zircon, pyrope garnet, topaz, quartz, beryl and other stones all found within an hour's drive of our home in Glen Innes in the New England region of NSW Australia.
There was apparently an issue with the audio track I used with this video, so I have had to start again. Sorry about that.
Standing stones Glen Innes
I drove through Glen Innes and saw the signs for the standing stones.
It's not as ancient as Stonehenge but it's a good place to stretch your legs.
Criticism: The worked stones are too rough and unnatural.
This is not an old site - it's a tribute to the Celtic heritage of many of the early settlers to the area.
It's under 10 years old.

This is one of a series of videos showing gem hunting localities near Glen Innes, New South Wales Australia. The area was mined for sapphire probably in the 1960's and has been a favourite place for the Glen Innes Baptist Church Fossicking group to visit.
Several very rich pockets of gems may have come from the miners discarding what they felt they could not sell. What they did not want, we certainly do!

The Old Mine area on Yarrow Creek was always one of our most productive fossicking locations. Not only were there places along the creek where the small-scale miners of the 1960's had not worked the wash, but (as you will see), unbeknown to us even after visiting the place for 10 years, there were places where the old miners had dumped their mine waste.
This was the source of the bonanzas. The majority of the gems were pyrope garnet, but there were still good sapphires and zircons among them as well as lots of larger black spinels.

Here is a selection of faceted gems, cut from stones found on our regular outings around Glen Innes. This is one of the best gem hunting regions in Australia, as many thousands of people will testify.
We enjoyed finding them and we can still enjoy the finished stones today. Share our pleasure!

Old Grafton Glen Innes Road trip
Road trip on the Old Grafton to Glen Innes Rd. from the Mann River Nature Reserve up the Big Hill to the junction with the Gwydir Highway. It was a wet and foggy day and there was evidence along the way of the damage caused by the recent heavy rains and flooding in the area.

Gold Panning in creeks at Drake NSW Part 3
This is Part 3 of 3 video's that i shot by myself (yeah sorry for the camera) when i was out prospecting near Drake this weekend. I hope you like them. I did notice that there aren't many video's out there of beginners just trying out for first times. Not sure if I am doing it 100% right but we all learn and unfortunately i haven't see a whole lot on You tube after the last 2 years of me doing it so thought i would put some up of my own. Once again this is my first post and I hope it helps or i hope for some feedback if you are able too! Ta
Texas Free(dom) bush camp on NSW side of the Dumaresq River.wmv
Beautiful free(dom) bush camping on the banks of the Dumaresq River just outside the township of Texas. Two areas available, one on each side of the Qld / NSW border. NSW side is rougher, while the Qld side is overall well grassed and cleared. No facilities exist.
Texas township is well resourced and includes toilets and showers.
