The Best Float Trip in Missouri
Come along for a single day float trip, and car camping adventure with my friends and I.
The Current River slices through southern Missouri with clear waters, rolling hillsides and fantastic swimming holes. The river is crisp, but enjoyable. I love the current because you get less annoying drunks and more enjoyable people, looking to have a nice time in the sun.
We floated from Akers Ferry Put-in to Pulltite Campground, a 9.6 mile journey. It took us about 6 hours on the water, with frequent stops to eat, drink, swim and have a good time.

Taum saves Eminence, Missouri
The people of Eminence had no idea what crept in the night. Using the Current River as a stealthy entrance to this sleepy town, a dragon moved closer. The dragon didnt plan on running into the river warrior, Taum.
The Best Missouri Trip EVER!!
Did you know that August 10th is Missouri's Birthday? The state turns 198 years old this year! I call Missouri my second home. In 2018, I visited Missouri three times to volunteer for the Austin Petersen for US Senate campaign. I finally got a chance to go back and visit my liberty friends again one year later. I'm taking you along with me to Missouri, as I tour the sights of St. Louis, do an interview with Austin Petersen at News Radio KWOS, and travel to Eminence, MO for a camping and float trip. If you haven't been to Missouri before, I highly recommend that you go!! The people and scenery are truly beautiful!
Big thank you to Austin Petersen and News Radio KWOS for interviewing me at their studio!
Listen to the KWOS Morning Show With Austin Petersen and John Marsh locally in Jefferson City, MO weekdays from 6-9 a.m. CT at 950 AM/104.5 FM.

Alley Spring and Mill in Eminence Missouri part of the Ozark National Scenic Riverways
Adam, Jena, Amie and I went to Alley Mill and Spring. I’ve been here 3 times now and it’s still amazing to see and it’s a National Park we had to share with Adam and Jena since they had not seen it. We stayed at Echo Bluff and also saw Current River State Park.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THE SPRING AND MILL:
“The rolling, forested landscape around Alley Spring is where two of America's most beautiful spring-fed rivers combine to make up the Ozark National Scenic Riverways.
As the first national park area to protect a wild river system, visitors are able to enjoy various water activities as well as hiking, horseback riding and wildlife viewing.”
Heading south on Highway 19, turn right (west) on Highway 106 at Eminence. After crossing the Jacks Fork River, turn right at the Alley Spring and Mill sign.
The spring empties an average of 81 million gallons a day into the upper Jacks Fork. A short trails leads around the spring, along bluff walls decorated with hanging gardens of wildflowers and ferns.
The barn-red mill was built in 1894 and is now a museum operated by the park service. The three-story mill is open daily.
Park Ranger Leanna Bryson had a bit of news. “The mill is going to be on the U.S. quarter in 2017,” she said. “They picked 55 national parks for the coins; Yellowstone was the first. They say we’re the most photographed mill in the United States.”
An image of historic Alley Mill near the Jacks Fork River will soon be imprinted on the back of U.S. quarter coins.
I certainly hope it brings more awareness to what we have with Ozark National Scenic Riverways, said park spokeswoman Dena Matteson. Local folks certainly know what we have here, but others may not know about the hidden jewel we have here in the Ozarks.
The story of Alley is a tale of nature, people, and a century-old mill sitting at the heart of a beautiful Ozark scene. Whether this is an annual trip you've made since your childhood, or your first visit, take time to soak up the splendid scenery and get acquainted with Alley's lively past.
Cold clear waters rise from deep within Alley Spring at an average daily flow of 81 million gallons. The spring basin is funnel-shaped with a depth of 32 feet.
Alley Mill is just one of over 100 historic structures found within Ozark National Scenic Riverways.

Wild Horses The Shawnee Herd Eminence, Missouri Shannon County
I decided to go on a camping trip and always wanted to see the wild horses in Missouri. I researched the general area of where I thought they might be, but did not know exactly where they were. Early in the morning at my camp, I heard horses across the river. I thought to myself, Oh, they must be over on that side of the river! Later that day, I decided to walk my dogs in a pretty green field. I walked close to some woods and was taking pictures with my phone. Out of nowhere, a whole stampede of horses came charging out of the woods. I took off running and all I could think to do was to head towards the river knowing I could jump in and head downstream. I kept falling down and each time that I fell, I would keep my phone on video. I would slow down and then they would start chasing me again. They chased me to the river and let me know that they did not want me or my dogs there. I was scared and thought I might lose one of my friendly labs to them since my dogs are only used to a friendly, tame horse. They swished their tails back and forth and the big white stud and grey mare whom are the most aggressive and lead the herd finally became more comfortable with me realizing I was not a threat to them and neither were my dogs. They watched us for a while and then ran across the field back in to another set of woods across the field. I waited a while and then quickly went out the way I came in since it was my only way out to get back to my camp. I am clearly a novice taking video, but am happy to have gotten the video and pictures that I took. I do have a picture of them when they first ran out of the woods. I spoke to a native American Shawnee woman later that day and she told me there was a herd across the river that I heard early in the morning and then the herd that came after me which is The Shawnee herd and then another herd in another location. She mentioned to me that The big white stud of this herd has been the head stud for over twenty years. To control the population of the herd, some of the foals that are born are periodically taken to auction. I was shaking while trying to capture what I could in this video. I was in fear for my life and for my dogs and at the same time to see the herd so close and to observe their behavior was a once in a lifetime experience. If I had known that the wild horses were out there in the woods, I would have never knowingly put myself in that kind of danger. I do not know enough about wild horses to know if they would have hurt me, but I had great respect for them and was not going to risk finding out. As I made my way out of the field, I heard the head stud let out a huge yell in horse talk which was his way of saying, These are my grounds. The next morning, I packed up my camp and on my way out, I saw the herd grazing in the field. I captured pictures of them from a distance which did not seem to bother them although, the white stud and grey mare were watching me closely. Well, I wanted to see the wild horses! I got to see them REAL CLOSE! They are beautiful!

Wild Horses on the Current River in Missouri
Wild Horses on the Current River just downstream from Round Spring in South Central Missouri. My brother and I went on an 18 mile float trip from Round Spring to Two Rivers on August 3rd 2012. Luckily there was no one on the river for a long way so we got to see a lot of wildlife. Along the way we had some incredibly lucky timing. I'd always heard of the Wild Horses, but they were practically some kind of mythical creature to me. I'd never seen one and didn't figure I ever would. It was awesome to float up on a group of nine of them. I felt like I had just seen a unicorn or something! I've got a bunch of photos up of them also, but my favorite thing is this video. I can't believe we got that close to them. That was really cool. In talking to many friends who've also been on the river frequently, apparently it's quite rare to see them. What a great day!
