Alley Spring and Mill in Eminence Missouri part of the Ozark National Scenic Riverways
Adam, Jena, Amie and I went to Alley Mill and Spring. I’ve been here 3 times now and it’s still amazing to see and it’s a National Park we had to share with Adam and Jena since they had not seen it. We stayed at Echo Bluff and also saw Current River State Park.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THE SPRING AND MILL:
“The rolling, forested landscape around Alley Spring is where two of America's most beautiful spring-fed rivers combine to make up the Ozark National Scenic Riverways.
As the first national park area to protect a wild river system, visitors are able to enjoy various water activities as well as hiking, horseback riding and wildlife viewing.”
Heading south on Highway 19, turn right (west) on Highway 106 at Eminence. After crossing the Jacks Fork River, turn right at the Alley Spring and Mill sign.
The spring empties an average of 81 million gallons a day into the upper Jacks Fork. A short trails leads around the spring, along bluff walls decorated with hanging gardens of wildflowers and ferns.
The barn-red mill was built in 1894 and is now a museum operated by the park service. The three-story mill is open daily.
Park Ranger Leanna Bryson had a bit of news. “The mill is going to be on the U.S. quarter in 2017,” she said. “They picked 55 national parks for the coins; Yellowstone was the first. They say we’re the most photographed mill in the United States.”
An image of historic Alley Mill near the Jacks Fork River will soon be imprinted on the back of U.S. quarter coins.
I certainly hope it brings more awareness to what we have with Ozark National Scenic Riverways, said park spokeswoman Dena Matteson. Local folks certainly know what we have here, but others may not know about the hidden jewel we have here in the Ozarks.
The story of Alley is a tale of nature, people, and a century-old mill sitting at the heart of a beautiful Ozark scene. Whether this is an annual trip you've made since your childhood, or your first visit, take time to soak up the splendid scenery and get acquainted with Alley's lively past.
Cold clear waters rise from deep within Alley Spring at an average daily flow of 81 million gallons. The spring basin is funnel-shaped with a depth of 32 feet.
Alley Mill is just one of over 100 historic structures found within Ozark National Scenic Riverways.

Alley Spring and Mill in Eminence Missouri is part of the Ozark National Scenic Riverways
Leanna Bryson Park Ranger with the National Park Service provided me a very nice overview of the Alley Mill in Eminence Missouri. I also am sharing some video of the Alley Spring as Leanna talks about the Mill. This is a great place to visit I've been here twice.

United States Quarter: 2017- Ozark National Scenic Riverways
Here are some important dates and events for Missouri’s Ozark Riverways quarter:
a U.S. Mint coin forum on the evening prior to the quarter’s official release, held at 6:00 p.m. CT on June 4, 2017 at Echo Bluff State Park (Nixon Room, 34489 Echo Bluff Drive, Eminence, MO 65466);
its release into general circulation on June 5, 2017;
its availability in U.S. Mint-branded rolls and bags at usmint.gov, also on June 5, 2017; and
its official launch ceremony by the U.S. Mint and the National Park Service at Alley Spring and Mill (State Route 106, Eminence, MO 65466) on June 5, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. CT.
Coin forums offer the public a chance to talk to U.S. Mint officials about current and upcoming products. Quarter ceremonies and coin forums are open to the public and free.
Coin Exchanges and Getting New Quarters
Coin exchanges are also offered immediately after launch ceremonies. They offer an opportunity to swap cash for $10 rolls of the newly released quarter. Security Bank of the Ozarks will sponsor the exchange for new Ozark Riverways quarters.
It is usually difficult to find new park quarters, sometimes taking months to years for them to appear regularly in change. Easier methods of getting them include coin exchanges and buying them straight from the U.S. Mint (usmint.gov) when they are released.
Designs on Ozark National Scenic Riverways Quarter
Nine reverse candidates for the quarter were developed by the U.S. Mint in consultation with representatives of Ozark National Scenic Riverways. The U.S. Secretary of the Treasury selected the final design after the Commission of Fine Arts and the Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee reviewed the candidates and offered their recommendations.
Created by Renata Gordon and sculpted by Ron Sanders, the selected design depicts Alley Mill, a steel roller mill built in 1894 to convert wheat into flour. The mill is a popular tourist destination with much of the original equipment still in place. Surrounding the design are inscriptions reading OZARK RIVERWAYS, MISSOURI, 2017, and E PLURIBUS UNUM.
All quarter obverses (heads) share a common portrait of George Washington as created by John Flanagan.
Both obverse and reverse designs are also on a series of U.S. Mint bullion and collector 3-inch diameter, 5-ounce silver coins.

Eagle Falls Zip Line - 2 of 3 - Eminence, MO
For Easter Break, 2016, we visited southern Missouri.
This is Eagle Falls Zip line, in Eminence, on the banks of the Jacks Fork River.
Four of us rode the five zip lines.
Our son recorded these on his GoPro HERO 4 Silver.
Our ride order was the same on each of the zip lines: 1) daughter, 2) son, 3) wife/mother, 4) husband/father/me.
We have ~ 45 minutes of video.
Our son’s zip line rides are at the following points in each video:
Eagle Falls Zip Line - 1 of 3 - Eminence, MO
(
Zip Line 1: ~ 3:30
Zip Line 2: ~ 13:00
Eagle Falls Zip Line - 2 of 3 - Eminence, MO
(
Zip Line 3: ~ 9:00
Zip Line 4: ~ 16:00
Eagle Falls Zip Line - 3 of 3 - Eminence, MO
(
Zip Line 5: ~ 6:00
-------
Eagle Falls is the first zip line in Missouri and was amazing!!!
We rode in a light rain; we all think we zipped just a little quicker because the zip cables were wet.
Eagle Falls has five zip lines.
I only had the phone tracking our GPS for the latter three.
For those we covered .3 miles, and at speeds up to 17.6 mph!
The team members riding with us shared the first zip line is the longest, so the math works that we zipped at least .5 / half a mile, possibly longer. The site states : “Approx. 4,000’ ” which is almost .3/4 / .75 mile.
We were there on Easter Wednesday, in spring / before the summer season started, so we had the place to ourselves.
We were there ~ 1.5 hours total, and on the lines ~ 45 minutes.
-------
On our trip, we also:
- zip lined at Eagle Falls -
They also have night zips -
- visited Grand Gulf State Park (
- saw Laura Ingall-Wilder (and Almonzo's home) (
- visited Bass Pro Shop in Springfield (
- stayed at Round Springs Retreat
( and which is just north of Eminence (

Arrow Rock Missouri | RV Life
In this episode we are camping at Arrow Rock State Park! We visited the historic towns of Arrow Rock and Blackwater and Bothwell Lodge State Historic Site in Missouri. It was a jam packed and super fun weekend!
The campground is fantastic and we lucked out to get the only full hook up spot. The Visitor's Center has a great museum and is right along the path to the old western town of Arrow Rock. We even got to attend their Night at the Museum event which featured history come to life as actors played the parts of historical figures from the town's past as a primary trail head for the Sante Fe Trail.
We also got the pleasure of visiting another historic old western town, Blackwater, MO. We ended up being there a little too early for many of the shops, but history of the town was on display everywhere and was incredible to take in.
The next day, we were detoured by flooding and ended up visiting Bothwell Lodge near Sedalia, MO. Katie has been dying to seeing this place, with it's fantastic and unique architecture. We couldn't get any video of the interior, but check the blog and our Instagram feed for tons of pictures.
It was a fantastic trip, we all learned so much about the important part western Missouri played in supplying the Old West with important resources. They do a fall festival in October and we are going to try and get back there for that!

Wild Horses on the Current River in Missouri
Wild Horses on the Current River just downstream from Round Spring in South Central Missouri. My brother and I went on an 18 mile float trip from Round Spring to Two Rivers on August 3rd 2012. Luckily there was no one on the river for a long way so we got to see a lot of wildlife. Along the way we had some incredibly lucky timing. I'd always heard of the Wild Horses, but they were practically some kind of mythical creature to me. I'd never seen one and didn't figure I ever would. It was awesome to float up on a group of nine of them. I felt like I had just seen a unicorn or something! I've got a bunch of photos up of them also, but my favorite thing is this video. I can't believe we got that close to them. That was really cool. In talking to many friends who've also been on the river frequently, apparently it's quite rare to see them. What a great day!
