Daigo ji Temple A World Heritage Site in Kyoto!
One of the main buildings in the Shimo-Daigo area is the Golden Hall (Kondo). The present Golden-hall was moved from Yuasa in Kishu (the present Wakayama Prefecture) by the order of Toyotomi Hideyoshi.
Another famous building is the Goju-No-To Pagoda. Its construction was for the repose of the Emperor Daigo and completed in 951 at the reign of the Emperor Murakami. It is the oldest building in Kyoto.
In the Shimo-Daigo area, furthermore, there are the Seiryugu Main Hall (Honden), Soshi-hall (The Hall dedicated to Rigen-daishi), Fudo hall, Dai kodo, Nyonin Hall, and Benten Hall.
Toyotomi Hideyoshi’s Cherry Blossom Party at Daigo-ji in Kyoto!
The annual Hō-Taikō Hanami Gyōretsu (Toyotomi Hideyoshi's cherry blossom viewing parade - 豊太閤花見行列) was held at Daigo-ji temple (醍醐寺) in Kyoto, on the 12th of April. The procession exits the Sanbō-in garden (三宝院) through the Karamon gate and makes it way via the Sandō (参道), the approach to the main area of the temple, to the Kondō (金堂), the main building of Daigo-ji temple.
Leading the procession is a group of young hanami dancers. Then the big moment arrives and the doors of the karamon gate are opened. The warriors of Hideyoshi lead the way followed by Yamabushi (山伏), they are Japanese Mountain ascetic hermits with a long tradition, endowed with supernatural powers in traditional Japanese mysticism.
Next up feudal lords and finally the man himself, Toyotomi Hideyoshi (豊臣 秀吉). he had been given the nickname Kozaru, meaning little monkey, from his lord Oda Nobunaga because his facial features and skinny form resembled that of a monkey.
His son, Hideyori and Toyotomi’s wife, concubines and first ranked servants closed the ranks. When all of the entourage reached the Kondō (金堂), the festivities could begin.
Daigo-ji Cherry Blossom season-2011
Daigo-ji is a Shingon Buddhist temple in Fushimi-ku, Kyoto, Japan. The main image (honzon) is Yakushi. Daigo, literally ghee, is used figuratively to mean crème de la crème and is a metaphor of the most profound part of Buddhist thoughts.
Daigo-ji was founded in the early Heian period. In 874, Rigen-daishi founded the temple.
After having fallen ill and abdicated in 930, Emperor Daigo entered Buddhist priesthood at this temple. As a monk, he took the Buddhist name Hō-kongō; and shortly thereafter, died at the age of 46. He was buried in the temple, which is why his posthumous name was Daigo
Several structures, including the kondō and the five-story pagoda, are National Treasures of Japan. The temple possesses 18 specifically designated national treasures, including the buildings and other works as well; and the temple holds several dozen important cultural assets.
As part of the Historic Monuments of Ancient Kyoto, it is included a World Heritage Site.
The five-story pagoda at Daigoji temple was built in 951 and is the oldest building in Kyoto. It was one of few buildings to survive the Onin War in the 15th century.
A Japanese Spear Fight at Toyotomi Hideyoshi's Cherry Blossom Party.
After the annual Hō-Taikō Hanami Gyōretsu (Toyotomi Hideyoshi's cherry blossom viewing parade - 豊太閤花見行列) at Daigo-ji temple (醍醐寺) in Kyoto, there was a spear fight. Three samurai warriors challenged Hideyoshi while he was seated at the Kondō (金堂), the main building of Daigo-ji temple. All of a sudden a onna-bugeisha (女武芸者) sprung to the foreground to defend her Lord and a fierce fight occurred. Another masked warrior joined the fight, he sorta looked like “ZORO” to me, and defeated the opponents in a dramatic show of skill. They all used a Japanese spear, a naginata (薙刀). A friend of mine told me that man and woman hold their naginata spear differently in combat.
[TRAVEL] EP 2: Day 2 in Japan, Kyoto ???? (wearing a kimono, bamboo forest)
This was day 2 of my Japan trip, in Kyoto! The first thing we did in the morning was rent the kimonos and get dressed! So if you're thinking of renting a kimono I recommend you to go early, as soon as the rental shop opens to ensure that you can pick out a pretty kimono (before other customers take them hehe). We then walked around kiyomizu-dera temple and took some nice photos. Our last stop for the day was at the bamboo forest, then chilled around kyoto because their night life is the bomb!

It is the head temple of the Omuro School of the Shingon sect of Buddhism and was established in 888 by the ruling emperor. Throughout many centuries, a member of the Imperial Family used to serve as Ninnaji's chief, and the temple was also called as Omuro Imperial Palace.
Due to the many wars and fires that destroyed Kyoto throughout its history, there are no temples that still survives from the temple's foundation in the 9th century. The oldest buildings include the main hall (Kondo), the Kannon Hall, the Niomon front gate, the Chumon inner gate and the five storied pagoda, which are all date back to the beginning of the Edo Period in the early 1600s, .

Ancient city Nara (Japan) Heijō-kyō (平城遷都1300年祭)
Heijō-kyō (平城京, also Heizei-kyō, sometimes Nara no miyako), was the capital city of Japan during most of the Nara period, from 710-740 and again from 745-784. The Palace site is a listed UNESCO World Heritage together with other places in the city of Nara (cf. Historic Monuments of Ancient Nara).
Empress Gemmei ordered to move the Imperial capital from Fujiwara-kyō to Heijō-kyō in 708, so the capital was moved to Heijō-kyō in 710. Heijō-kyō was modeled after Chang'an, the capital of Tang Dynasty China, although Heijō-kyō lacked walls. In the city, there were many traders, merchants of China, Korea, India, and they introduced various foreign cultures to Heijō-kyō through the Silk Road. As a result, Heijō-kyō flourished as Japan's first international and political capital, with a peak population of approximately 100,000. The overall form of the city was an irregular rectangle, and the area of city is more than 25 km2.

Oni oi shiki Driving out the devil ceremony Yakushiji, Nara 鬼追式 薬師寺 奈良市 by Kari Gröhn karigrohncom
Oni-oi-shiki (Driving out the devil ceremony) Yakushiji, Nara 鬼追式 薬師寺 奈良市 by Kari Gröhn karigrohncom
During the Onioishiki Ceremony at Yakushiji temple the oni (demons) run around and bang the blazing torches and shake the long bamboo poles letting out sparks from burning baskets of dried grass. In the end, the demons are dispelled by the Buddhist deity Bishamonten 毘沙門天 who punish evildoers.
Demons in Japanese lore wander between the living and the dead. Sometimes they do good deeds in the world, and some demons are the root of all disasters, both natural and man-made. The oni hunt the souls of those who did evil things in their lives.
Yakushiji 薬師寺
Yakushiji is one of the most famous imperial and ancient Buddhist temples of Nara. It was built in Fujiwarakyo, Japan's old capital in the Hakuo period, from 680 to 698. In 710, when the capital moved to Nara, the temple was also moved there.
A fire destroyed most buildings in 973 and the main Kondo hall in 1528. The main hall was rebuilt in the 1970s and the whole temple is now completely restored.
Toutou 東塔 (East Pagoda) is the only original building. It is thought as one of the finest pagodas in Japan. Yakushiji provides a beautiful contrast of two three-storied pagodas: the original east pagoda and the red-and-green west pagoda.
