Napa Valley Castle Tour - Castello Di Amorosa - Calistoga, California
Napa Valley Castle video was republished to YouTube August 2014 with a new soundtrack.
Explore with us as we take a self-guided tour the Castello Di Amorosa near Calistoga, California. This has become quite a family attraction in Napa Valley. It was completed in 2007 after 15 years of construction and was built using medieval techniques, hand chiseled stone, and even some bricks that were imported from other castles worldwide.
This video sequence was shot in April, 2012 with a Canon Vixia HFS-100 video camera and edited in Adobe Premier Pro CS5. It was re-edited with CS6 and reposted in August 2014 with a new soundtrack.

Napa Valley, California, USA - Unravel Travel TV
North America's legendary wine and food capital The Napa Valley is a collection of small towns and villages.
The Napa Valley is a name derived from the language of the area's native Wappo Indians, and has come to mean land of plenty. Napa has meant a place of natural abundance for centuries—our rivers full of fish, our forests, rolling hills, wildlife, climate, and fertile land for planting crops all combine to make The Napa Valley a place of singular beauty and productivity. The first written description of the land dates to 1823 and was penned by Padre Jose Altimura who estimated that several thousand Wappo Indians inhabited the area. Word quickly spread about the abundance and temperate climate of The Napa Valley and by the late 1840s the area was teeming with quicksilver mines and lumber mills. The region's popularity grew when steamships began traveling from San Francisco to the city of Napa via the Napa River a trip they could make in about three hours. Soon afterwards, the railroad line became available from the ferry terminal at Vallejo on the shores of San Pablo Bay to the city of Calistoga, creating new access to the healing waters of Calistoga's famed hot springs. The Napa Valley has weathered some tough times in its relatively short history. The Valley's once-famed Silverado Mine was exhausted in 1875 after just three years of operation. In 1893 an outbreak of phylloxera, a serious grapevine disease, crippled many of the valley's 140 wineries. Prohibition, enacted in 1920, dealt the final blow to the early wine industry. Only a handful of wineries survived the thirteen years of Prohibition by selling sacramental wines and by selling grapes to home winemakers. Today, however, with vision and perseverance, the industry has greatly surpassed its earlier golden age, and now boasts nearly 400 wineries producing some of the world's finest wines. The Napa Valley continues to be a thriving agricultural area, a characteristic not typical of communities in the San Francisco Bay Area. This is thanks to a group of concerned citizens who in 1968 had the foresight to create the first Agricultural Preserve in the State, indeed in the entire nation. A land zoning ordinance voted on by a majority of the county's citizens established agriculture and open space as the best use for the land within Napa County. The Ag Preserve, as it is called by locals, has been a model for other areas to follow. In combination with the Napa County Land Trust, more than 438,000 acres within Napa County have been designated as agricultural preserve or watershed protection lands. 2008 marks the 40th anniversary of the establishment of the Ag Preserve. The Napa Valley offers new discoveries with each return visit. Enjoy the unique character of each town that dots this 30-mile long Valley, and take time to explore and cherish this land of plenty.

California earthquake wreaks havoc in Napa Valley
A magnitude-6.0 earthquake struck northern California’s famed wine country, Napa Valley, early Sunday, critically injuring three people, including a child.
The tremor occurred at around 3:20 a.m., about six miles southwest of the city of Napa.
Vineyards were damaged, homes were destroyed, and cars were buried underneath rubble.
According to CNN, the child who suffered severe injuries was hurt when a fireplace collapsed near him or her. At least 160 people also suffered minor injuries.
Water mains were destroyed in several locations and repairs could take up to a week.
Pacific Gas and Electric Company, the power provider for the Sonoma, Napa, and Santa Rosa areas, told reporters that at least 15,000 homes and businesses lost power because of the earthquake, adding that 7,300 of them were still in the dark as of Sunday evening.
Most of the quake’s damage lay in the financial sector, which the United States Geological Survey estimated to be up to $1 billion. Mark Ghilarducci, the director of the California Office of Emergency Services, told a news conference that the quake was not as bad as it could have been.
U.S. Rep. Mike Thompson, who represents Napa, echoed the sentiment, telling reporters that, “It’s bad any way you calculate it. But it could have been a heck of a lot worse.”

World's Top Hotels: Auberge du Soleil, Napa Valley, California, United States
Discover Auberge du Soleil at
Three words describe the Auberge du Soleil philosophy: Pleasure is healing. Here, life's earthly pleasures are celebrated in the serenity of an intimate hillside setting that has captivated guests for 30 years. The Napa Valley offers new discoveries with each return visit, whether you are wine tasting, dining or pampering yourself at the spa.
Napa Valley is one of the premier travel destinations in the world. Located north of the San Francisco Bay Area, it offers breathtaking views abound at every turn -- mustard in the late winter, picturesque rolling hills planted with vineyards year-round and wineries of every stature dot the landscape. It was these breathtaking valley views that inspired French-born restaurateur Claude Rouas to recreate the sun-drenched ambiance of a Provençal restaurant in the California Wine Country. As Napa Valley's first fine-dining establishment, it opened to acclaim in 1981 and quickly gained recognition as one of the leading and best restaurants in Northern California, not only for its superb cuisine, but also its spectacular natural setting.
The pleasures of a gorgeous view enjoyed with a glass of wine and an exquisite meal invite lingering. Rouas and business partner Robert Harmon made it possible to do just that in 1985, when they opened the inn, a collection of sun- and earth-toned rooms and suites, each featuring French doors opening onto private terraces, cozy fireplaces and sensuous elements such as private soaking tubs for two. For the Auberge's signature style of soft-spoken luxury, the partners tapped renowned designer Michael Taylor, who infused his dramatic California style with the essence of Provence.
Auberge du Soleil perfected the art of balancing wellness with luxurious indulgence when it opened Auberge Spa, a retreat modeled after a centuries-old monastery that continues to be one of the most acclaimed spas in the country. That was later followed by a transformation of the swimming pool into La Plage, a sexy, laid-back outdoor pool and living room, where hotel guests can spend lazy hours lounging poolside on oversized chaises or underneath gauze-draped canopies on day beds for two.
Today, the Auberge is as fresh and forward-thinking as it was when it first opened and pioneered a new style of laid-back luxury. Michael Taylor protégée and leading designer Suzanne Tucker has updated the resort interiors with a bright, rich look reminiscent of a secluded Côte d'Azur retreat. Under the direction of Executive Chef Robert Curry, the famed Napa Valley restaurant has earned back-to-back Michelin stars. The spring 2011 renovation of the dining room and iconic terrace was completed in time for the Restaurant's 30th anniversary.
Since it opened, resort guests have been drawn to the Auberge for its tranquility, style and unmistakable romance. The pleasures of escape, total privacy, and the intimacy of having a beautiful spot to share are part of the timeless allure of Auberge du Soleil.
