Hi there! My name is Jen and I am the founder and writer of World On A Whim, the Perfectionist's Guide to Spontaneous Travel. While my blog focuses on international travel, I am starting school in Los Angeles and will therefore not be able to travel abroad quite as much. Therefore, I decided to curate a Day in LA each week so that we can all enjoy our free time and have adventures in this glorious city. And of course I will share my travels outside of LA with you as well :)

Chapter 10 - The Fremont Theater - Downtown San Luis Obispo Walking Tours
The Fremont theater is a classic example of 1942 design based on Art Deco. It was designed by architect S. Charles who was inspired by the elegant ocean liners of the time. It opened on Memorial Day in 1942, just 5 months after the US entered WWII. The theater provided entertainment for the thousands of soldiers encamped at a local military training camp. The first showing at the theater was opened by a 17 movie stars including Laurel and Hardy and they raised over $700,000 selling war bonds.

Santa Barbara is located about 90 miles North of Los Angeles, along the Pacific coast. This stretch of coast along southern Santa Barbara County is often referred to as the American Riviera because its geography and similar climate to that of the French and Italian Rivieras. The Santa Ynez Mountains, an east-west trending range, rise dramatically behind the city, with several peaks exceeding 4,000 feet (1,200 m). Covered with chaparral and with sandstone outcrops, they make a famously scenic backdrop to the town.

11 Days Touring The Pacific Northwest
Come along with me for an 11-day vacation in the Pacific Northwest!
We visit Coeur d'Alene, Idaho... Seattle, Washington... Vancouver, British Columbia... and the Silver Mountain resort in Kellogg, Idaho. I guess I could call this video Planes, Trains, & Automobiles... because I travel in all three of them at different points of this big adventure. It's kind of funny that during this one 11-day vacation, I managed to travel on a jet airplane, a turboprop airplane, a diesel locomotive, a steam locomotive, and I managed to get a look at three cruise ships, too.
The purpose of the trip was to visit with my relatives in the Pacific Northwest... including my sister, brother-in-law, niece, nephew, and more. We had a lot of fun during our get-together, and it was fun for me to experience some of the area's biggest tourist attractions... about a year in advance of my planned move up there.
Subscribe to my YouTube channel if you like this type of travel video... and feel free to use the services of my travel agent, Caitlin Gallagher, if you're interested in setting up some kind of big adventure of your own. You'll find Caitlin at ambrentravel.com

Atascadero City Hall Rehabilitation, Atascadero CA - Spring 2013
Bernards completed the Atascadero City Hall Rehabilitation, in a process that can be envisioned as building a building inside the building. The scope included dome reinforcement, and stabilization of both the existing foundation beneath the original footings and the building exterior. The iconic Atascadero City Hall was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1977 and registered as a California Registered Historical Landmark in 1984. Following the 6.5 San Simeon earthquake, the building was closed until rehabilitation began in June of 2011.

Mentally ill inmate extracted from Corcoran prison cell
Video of a mentally ill inmate at the state prison in California State Prison, Corcoran, as he is extracted from a holding cell on Dec. 3, 2012, after refusing to leave it voluntarily. The video was filmed by prison staffers, as required by department policy when guards prepare to use force against an inmate.
U.S. District Judge Lawrence K. Karlton has found that the use of force against mentally ill inmates in California prisons is unconstitutionally harsh. Karlton ordered state officials to continue revising the use-of-force procedures deployed against the state's 33,000 mentally ill prisoners and to limit the use of solitary confinement as a means of disciplining such inmates.
LAST OCTOBER (2019) Documentary | City of Santa Rosa, CA
Last October is a 50-minute documentary film that captures experiences during and following the Sonoma Complex Fires from the perspective of several current and former City of Santa Rosa, CA employees and officials who served as first responders, disaster service workers, and community leaders. These individuals recount both their professional and personal experiences, the critical participation of mutual aid agencies, and the overwhelming selfless support and heroism of the community during and following one of the most destructive wildfires in state history. The film provides a firsthand glimpse into the breadth of the City of Santa Rosa’s response and what it was like to work as a public servant during the fires, such as a recreation employee operating an emergency shelter, a City mechanic hearing of the loss of his own house while working to keep public safety vehicles in service, a CityBus worker transporting evacuees, police officers and firefighters on the front lines, and more. In many instances, employees reported to duty not yet knowing the fate of their own homes or of their families who were evacuated.

Hello, I’m Dr. Anthony Pitrowski and I’m a board-certified oral and maxillofacial surgeon at Coastal Oral Surgery and Dental Implant Center. I’ve had the privilege of serving patients in the Santa Maria and San Luis Obispo communities since completing my residency and fellowship in 1996. My goal is to offer you the full scope of oral surgery services while delivering high-quality treatment with honesty and compassion. From scheduling your first appointment to your post-surgical follow-up we want you to feel confident you’re receiving the highest level of care and attention anyone can offer. In 2011 we were fortunate to have Dr. Goldberg join our practice. Having been friends with Dr. Goldberg since the early days of dental school and having always had the upmost respect for him I remain overjoyed that he was able to join our team. Exposure to those I wish to emulate began in college and it really changed my life. My educational program began at Harvard Dental School continuing until receiving my dental and medical degrees from the University of Pennsylvania. I followed this with a special fellowship in plastic surgery at St. Luke's Roosevelt Hospital in New York City. Such training provided me with tools to diagnose and address oral and facial conditions for patients of all ages, from complex facial injuries and reconstruction to dental implants while safely administrating anesthesia. I strive to maintain and advance my skills to provide you with contemporary safe effective treatment each and every time. We are passionate about compassionate care for you. We’re grateful you’ve taken the time to view our website, thank you and we look forward to meeting you.
