Hunter Valley Wine Region – Australia August 2019 – Travel Vlog
This is day 2 of our Australia trip! We rented a car when we arrived on day 1 to venture out of Sydney as we waited for the rest of our friends to arrive a day later.
On this day, we visited the Hunter Valley Wine Region which is known for Semillon and Shiraz wines. This is an area that came as a surprise to me, not just because I’ve only heard of it recently, but Australia is somewhat absent from the international wine scene, especially when there is the Napa and Sonoma Valley Wine Regions, Burgundy and Bordeaux, and many others that easily overshadows this part of the wine making world. And, I’ve even read that most Australians have not even heard of the Hunter Valley Wine Region ????
The Hunter Valley vineyards are as grand as any other with inviting tasting salons. Asides from learning the type of wines produced here, but wineries consciously produce wine om small quantities which is the reason exports are minimal. Although, in TV shows such as the Wine Show (with Matthew Goode), Australia is being highlighted as a unique terroir. And in our exploration, I discovered that I love their wine ????

Sycamore Vineyards and Biodynamics - Napa Valley
The name biodynamics might be a term you recognize or maybe not. Strictly speaking, biodynamics is an agricultural process that places first emphasis on the soil as a living organism. Possibly one of the least understood and/or controversial wine practices in present day enology, the term is derived from Dr. Rudolf Steiners spiritual beliefs and philosophical teachings. These beliefs stress the merits of using organic methods to maintain the health of land that is producing crops, and the practice is steadily gaining a foothold in current-day winegrowing practices throughout the world.
Join us as we hear from biodynamic consultant Philippe Armenier, and John Bryan, owner of Napa Valleys Sycamore Vineyards, about what the process has done for this winegrower for Freemark Abbey winery.

Magic Window Timelapse Screensaver for Macintosh:
California is the most populated state in the United States, and the third largest. It's almost double the size of the United Kingdom and slightly larger than Japan. If it was it's own independent country (as it was briefly for a few weeks in 1846), it would have the 8th largest economy in the world by GDP. It contains the highest summit and the lowest desert in the Contiguous United States (and the second-lowest point in the world), both of which are in the same county. It's most known for movies, technology, wine, and national parks, but also grows more than a third of the vegetables consumed in the US, two-thirds of the fruits and nuts, and an unknown but presumably huge percentage of marijuana. It contains every major climatological biome except tundra. More important than those facts, to me, is that I was born and spent most of my life here.
The average clip took 1-3 hours to film and another 3-10 hours to edit. Several cuts are from clips more than 24 hours long. I shot 423 clips over four years to make this, but the majority of the 67 clips ultimately used were shot in the last 12 months.

Let's Visit Magnificent Ledson Vineyards, Santa Rosa, CA...Black Magic Pocket Cinema Camera
Ledson Winery, Vineyards & Castle is located just West of Santa Rosa in a beautiful valley. The most striking feature of this winery is the amazing castle, situated right among the rows and rows of wine grapes. It's a must see if you are in Central Sonoma County and enjoy visiting the various storied wineries in this area. Here is a link to the winery showing history, location, hours and days of operation, as well as some very interesting history:
The video was filmed on the Black Magic Pocket Cinema Camera. This is truly a unique camera in that it's sensor is able to gather in over 13 stops of dynamic range. Why is this important? Because the amount of data being absorbed by the camera's sensor is several times larger than that taken in by a standard DSLR camera. This means the files are exceptionally large. Shooting in this style is called shooting RAW footage. The camera makes no attempt to compose a video, frame by frame, using what is called a codec to pull what it's designers want it to see. Thus, when the video from this cinema camera is first seen in editing, it is flat and it's up to the color grader to pull the color combinations he or she wants. This post-production control, color grading, is extremely difficult to master as red green blue must be blended, along with white balance, to achieve an aesthetically pleasing video. Of course the real attractive feature of this camera, and the one which appeals to film makers is the final product of editing and coloring. If done correctly, it will appear as a cinema type movie.
For this video, since it was shot in RAW format, it has been graded in Davinci resolve 12.5. A Canon Rec 709 lut was used. Here is a list of the lenses used:
Rokinon T1.5 85mm Cine lens
Olympus Zuiko 17mm 1:1.8
Olympus Zuiko 45mm 1:1.8
Olympus Zuiko 12-40mm 1:28

I love to paint on a big scale. A well placed, well executed mural can dramatically transform a space. It turns a plain wall into something beautiful and unique that tells a story about the people who dwell there. For me, it is a privilege to collaborate in the creation of a work of art that makes a place unique and delightful, and turns a wall into an experience.
I consider myself a collaborative artist. Most of my clients would not consider themselves artists, yet what we create together is more gratifying and interesting than my perspective alone. Because my work is site-specific, each project offers a unique environmental dynamic. I aim to create artwork that will be a perfect fit for the space, taking into consideration the perspective from which the artwork is viewed, the lighting, the scale of the space, the colors and mood, and the story we want to tell with the piece.
The whole process of brainstorming, creating, and fine tuning the finished piece is a unique adventure. I make the process fun and easy for my clients. Visit my site, Call or e-mail to get started.
I currently live in Los Altos, California with my husband David, son, Lucas (13), and daughter, Allison (11). When I am not painting you can find me hiking in the Santa Cruz Mountains or napping in my van.

American History (After Hours): The Judgement of Paris and American Wine
On May 16, 2016, we celebrated the 40th anniversary of the Judgment of Paris with a special American History (After Hours) program at the museum with wine tastings, food, and dynamic conversation. The Judgment of Paris was a pivotal moment forty years ago when American winemakers surprised a panel of French wine experts (and the world) by placing first in a blind tasting that pitted the new American wines against the best of France.
Watch the panel discussion from this evening about the legacy of the Judgment of Paris and American wine history featuring experts and some of the original participants:
Steven Spurrier – The organizer of the 1976 Judgment of Paris.
George Taber – The only journalist to cover the tasting and author of Judgment of Paris (New York: Scribner, 2005).
Warren Winiarski – The winemaker of the winning 1973 Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon and founder of Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars
Bo Barrett – The CEO and former winemaker at Chateau Montelena Winery and son of the late Jim Barrett who owned Chateau Montelena at the time of the Judgment of Paris.
Violet Grgich – The daughter of Mike Grgich, the winemaker of the winning 1973 Chateau Montelena Chardonnay and founder of the winery, Grgich Hills Estate, where Violet is co-proprietor.
Ted Baseler – The CEO of Ste. Michelle Estates and CEO of Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars.
Moderated by Paula Johnson, Curator, National Museum of American History.
