63 Miles. Endless Memories
The Tahquamenon Scenic Byway is a 63-mile journey through Michigan's Eastern Upper Peninsula, filled with ways to disconnect with the everyday, and reconnect with Mother Earth.
Explore the main route of Highway M-123 to experience the thunder of Tahquamenon Falls and the norther hospitality of villages like Newberry and Paradise. Branch off on one of the many byway spurs to search for agates along Lake Superior, cast for steelhead and salmon at the mouth of Two Hearted River, take the road less traveled and enjoy the isolation of Crisp Point Lighthouse, or see the bell of the ill-fated Edmund Fitzgerald at the Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum- let the byway be your guide. Christmas Day Storm in Duluth, MN USA 12-25-2016
Lake Superior, the largest freshwater lake in the world, is well-known for its winter storms - sinking many a ship through the past 150 years. There's even a large shipwreck museum located next to the famous Duluth Lift Bridge.
To do something different, I decided to take a trip with two of my three sons to Duluth from December 24 - 26, 2016. It was a trip filled with lots of fun and relaxation, since they were only home from College for a short time.
We toured the Bentleyville Christmas light show on the 24th, and drove up the North Shore of Minnesota to Split Rock lighthouse to take in the sights on Christmas. We then returned to Duluth and ate dinner at the top of the Radisson in the famous revolving restaurant located there.
The storm really began to worsen that afternoon, and the waves on Lake Superior really peaked in the evening of the 25th. I tried my best to capture the wave action in the late evening, but difficult with the driving snow, ice pellets, water spray from the Lake and winds. It was also kind of cold... Quite the storm.
Enjoy this little bit of a typical Northern Minnesota winter storm!
