Bioluminescence Tour in Hopkins Belize with Get to Know Belize Adventures
Experience the magic of the bioluminescent lagoon near #Hopkins #Belize. Book this Nocturnal River Safari and #Bioluminescence tour with Get To Know Belize Adventures and experience the magic of the “burnin’ water” at Anderson Lagoon.
This is a seasonal tour offered only during the dry season in Belize. Visitors from all over the world come to Hopkins to experience the magic of the bioluminescence at Anderson lagoon. The saltwater and freshwater in the lagoon, which is filled by the Sittee River through a small canal, is home to a dense concentration of dinoflagellates that glow as it gets dark, but will brighten considerably when agitated, such as in the wake of a boat. As the water is disturbed, the tiny plankton organisms emit a chemical reaction that results in a blue neon glow in the water. You must experience this in person to truly appreciate it.

Belize Tourism Best Places To Visit in Belize
Belize Tourism Best Places To Visit in Belize
Belize brims with natural beauty. A top spot for eco-tourists, this fascinating country lies in Central America, between Mexico and Guatemala, and was known as British Honduras during its colonial days. Few countries offer such a rich diversity of ecosystems packed into a relatively small area. In addition to the world's second largest barrier reef, Belize is home to dense jungles with howler monkeys and jaguars, mountain pine forests, palm-fringed beaches, bonefish flats, rivers, caves, and coral atolls rimmed by fish-rich reefs. Not surprisingly, diving and snorkeling are superb. The Great Blue Hole is a UNESCO World Heritage dive site, and anglers flock here from all corners of the globe for fantastic flats fishing and deep-sea adventures.
1 Great Blue Hole
The most popular dive destination in Belize, the Great Blue Hole offers divers interesting observations of limestone formations that mold its walls. This massive sinkhole under the water is near the Lighthouse Reef and creates a perfect circle of deep blue water. The deeper one dives into the Great Blue Hole, the clearer the water and the more breathtaking the scenery, as the array of bizarre stalactites and limestone formations become more complex and intense.
2 Caracol
Siting high on the Vaca Plateau, 500 meters (1650 ft) above sea level, Caracol is the largest Maya site in Belize. It was once one of the largest ancient Maya cities, covering some 168 square kilometers (65 mi²). At its peak around 650 AD it had an estimated population of about 150,000, more than twice as many people as Belize City has today. The largest pyramid in Caracol is Canaa
3 Lamanai
Located in northern Belize, Lamanai was once a considerably sized Maya city. The ancient ruins are not completely uncovered yet. Archaeological work has concentrated on the investigation and restoration of the larger structures such as the High Temple, a 33 meter tall temple. Since it was still occupied by the Maya when the Spanish arrived, Lamanai, which in Maya means “submerged crocodile”, is one of the few Mayan sites to retain its traditional name.
4 Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary
The Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary is one of the biggest, protected destinations in Belize. The reserve was founded in 1990 as the first wilderness sanctuary for the jaguar. Although roughly 60 of Belize’s 700 jaguars are believed to live in the sanctuary, your chances of seeing one are very slim. However, it’s an ideal environment for plant-spotting, bird viewing or seeking out other wildlife, and the trail system is the best developed in any of Belize’s protected areas.
5 Ambergris Caye
Just off the tip of the Yucatán Peninsula, laidback Ambergris Caye is the largest of Belize's 200 cayes and a prime tourist destination. Off the coast, Hol Chan Marine Reserve is one of Belize's most visited diving and snorkeling sites. It's named after the Mayan for little cut and is one of seven reserves within the Belize Barrier Reef system, which is the second largest in the world after the Great Barrier Reef in Australia.

Swimming With Sharks and Stingrays In Belize (Caye Caulker) | Carnival Cruise 2018 | VLOG 009

The second of three destinations on the cruise was Belize City, Belize. This time we chose to snorkel over a coral reef, as well as, swimming with sharks and stingrays in Belize, just off of a small island called “Split Island”. Split Island is actually the Island of Caye Caulker and it got its nickname do to a storm in 1961 that ravished the island and literally split it in half, killing over 200 people. Now only one side of the island is really in use and the other side is mostly vacant.
Getting to Caye Caulker started with a short boat taxi from the cruise ship to the Belize City port. Once our entire group was all there, approximately 35 people, we boarded another boat and took a boat ride about 45 minutes north of Belize City to Caye Caulker. The water was absolutely beautiful and it was an enjoyable ride out. Once we arrived there, we went to the coral reef first and snorkeled for a bit and then we got back on the boat and went about 5 minutes away to the shark and stingrays.
If I’m being completely honest, I was more nervous about the stingrays than the sharks!! Why? Because the sharks were just “nurse sharks” and have no teeth, and don’t really bite. However, we were in the ocean, not a controlled area inside some water park, so all the stingrays still had their barbs. And if any of you remember how the “Crocodile Hunter” died, then you already know why I was nervous, haha. That guy got bit by snakes, spiders, crocs and tons of other things and survived, but it only took one stingray to kill him.
Nikki and I tried our best to capture our experience on our cameras but when you’re floating in the middle of the ocean and trying to simultaneously swim against a current, and film, and simply enjoy the experience all at the very same time, it’s not all that easy, haha.
Nonetheless, it was amazing and also allowed me to check off 4 items on my bucket list!! I’ll admit, 2 of the 4 things I’ve already done but I had no video proof of it, so now I can “OFFICIALLY” check them off the list. My “Bucket List” will also be a regular feature on both my YouTube page and also my personal website! I’ve shared my Official Bucket List below as well as on my website. So take a look at it and if you think you can help me knock something off the list, then let me know and maybe we can do it together!

# 33 - Swim With Sharks
# 75 - See A Coral Reef
# 215 - Snorkel

Maya Guide Adventures....Belize(Kayak Adventure)
Marco guided us through caves down a river through the Belizean jungle. He has great knowledge about the ecosystems, great enthusiasm in sharing, and a lot of experience in leading tours. For the most part the river is less than 3 feet deep, and it moves along at a nice easy pace with some rapids. You will get wet, but it is refreshing. Between caves you will be on the river in the jungle.
