Spanish Food Tour at Central Market in Valencia, Spain
Join us for a Spanish Food Tour in Valencia, Spain at central market (mercado central) as we sample many tasty savory and sweet bites. Located just a stone throw away from our apartment we visited the mercat central on an almost daily basis to pick-up groceries such as fresh produce and delicious local meats and cheeses. However, our mission was different this time. Our plan was to visit the Central Market in Valencia to have as many tasty Spanish snacks as we possibly could handle including both savory and sweet items. With this in mind we ate the following food items:
1) Sandwich with serrano ham (Bocadillo de jamón serrano)
2) Ham and cheese in a cup (Jamón serrano y queso)
3) Empanadas with tuna and onion (Empanadilla de atún y cebolla)
4) Spanish Tortilla with chorizo slices (Tortilla española con chorizo)
5) Almond and sugar cakes (Mantecadas y polvorones)
6) Pig's ear or Elephant ear pastries (Palmeras)
7) Fruit juice (Zumo de frutas)

Spanish Food Tour at Central Market in Valencia, Spain Video Transcript:
Today's video is going to be a food adventure. We're making our way over to the Central Market here in Valencia (Mercado Central de Valencia). Which is right outside our door. We had views from our apartment window overlooking the market just footsteps away. We've already been a few times to do our grocery shopping but we also noticed they have lots of tasty bites so you can actually turn your visit into a meal. So that is what we're planning to do. I've even got my little grocery bag in case we see something for dinner. That is the plan. Let's go eat Spanish food.
Our first snack of the day is going to be a sandwich filled with jamón serrano (Bocadillo de jamón serrano). That means ham from the mountains from the sierras. I'm just opening it up here. Look at that. A thing of beauty in the sandwich. They asked me if I wanted olive oil drizzled all over it so I was like yeah! It was only 1 Euro.
Time for our second snack here at the market. Alright second tasty snack. And this one is only 2 Euros so we're having Serrano ham. There we go Jamón serrano y queso right? And this one is only 2 Euros.
This is our third snack right here. It is called empanadilla and it is filled with tuna and onion (Empanadilla de atún y cebolla ). It kind of resembles the empanadas that you find in Latin America. How much was it? 1.10 Euros.
We're going to be trying the tortilla and we ordered the one with chorizo and it is served with a slice of bread and they also gave us some allioli sauce.
So this should be pretty good & scrumptious. Our forth snack. We're still going strong guys. Not close to being full yet.
Time to try that. You already had a bite of the chorizo for our Spanish version so I'm insisting that you save that piece for me. I know it is good. It is wonderful with this garlic sauce.
We are trying something completely new. Apparently it is a dessert that is from Spain. We got three different kinds and I've just opened the first one up. This one is called polvorones de canela. It is cinnamon.
This one is called Mantecada. This is polvorone.
These were three Euros for the 3 of them.
Moving on to dessert. This is called Palmera. It is 1 Euro.
Gotta wash it down with a little fruit juice. This was 1.50 Euros.
That was a very fun visit to the Central Market (Mercado Central).
If you want to visit the Central Market (Mercat Central) here in Valencia a few things you should know. It is open from 8 to 3 pm everyday except for Sunday. So Monday through Saturday and there is a lot of produce and meat shops great for picking up groceries.
This is part of our Travel in Spain video series showcasing Spanish food, Spanish culture and Spanish cuisine.

Spain Day 7 - Valencia Day Trip
Valencia, Spain
The port city of Valencia lies on Spain’s southeastern coast, where the Turia River meets the Mediterranean Sea. It’s known for its City of Arts and Sciences, with futuristic structures including a planetarium, an oceanarium and an interactive museum. Valencia also has several beaches, including some within nearby Albufera Park, a wetlands reserve with a lake and walking trails.
The Silk Exchange
The Valencia Silk Exchange (or Lonja de la Seda, in Spanish) was built between 1482 and 1492 when the previous building that was being used for trade became too small. The majority of the Lonja (silk exchange) was built between 1482 and 1492, under master mason Pere Compte. The work was completed by a pupil of his after his death, which explains the presence of Renaissance elements. The Silk Exchange is considered one of Europe's most beautiful examples of Gothic civil architecture. Its similarity with old medieval castles is based on the fierce, fortress-like appearance of its stone walls. It comprises four parts: the Tower, the Sea Consulate Room, the Orange-tree Patio and the Room of Columns. The site covers more than 2,000 square metres indoors and out. On Sundays there is also an exhibition of coins and stamps.

What to do & Where to sleep in Valencia Spain
We stayed for 2 days in Valencia, Spain (June'19)
???? We stayed in Casual Civilizaciones Valencia Hotel
It is a different, fun and economical option. Is good value for money and only 15 min from the center.
Rating: 3/5 - we had a problem with a noisy aircon, so first night did not sleep well. Thankfully they booked us in another room the next day.
???? Paella in El Palmar
Spain? Paella!
We had ours at El Palmar, the town where it was born. Amongst rice paddies, this quaint little town is packed with restaurants. On Sundays families flock there to have a long and lazy lunch. And this Sunday, two strangers eagerly joined this tradition (us, lol). We accompanied our meal with sangria. Si ! We just choose a random restaurant and it seems you can’t go wrong with any of them
Rating: 4/5
???? Cafe de Las Horas - Calle Conde de Almodovar 1
Agua de Valencia is served in pitchers like sangria. The ingredients are cava, orange juice (plenty of that in Valencia), vodka, gin, and sugar.
Rating: 3/5 - it’s refreshing, but alcohol content is not high enough

MercatBar Restaurant Valencia Review 2014
MercatBar Restaurant offers classic tapas with a modern twist served to a gourmet standard.
This very cool, modern....yet warm and inviting restaurant offers some unique, innovative and very exciting flavours.
Located right in the centre of Valencia, Mercatbar certainly pushes Valencian gastronomy to the next level.
House specialities includes their Patatas bravas, langontisnos and incredible foie gras.
I was massively impressed with the bar & dining room. The service was also exceptionally attentive and helpful.
To begin I loved the tuna 'in a tin' which was the most delicious tinned tuna I'd ever tasted. The oil was divine. It was simply melt in your mouth quality!
I also sampled the Russian Salad which was incredibly moreish. Normall this wouldn't be my first choice but it was a real treat and leagues above any other 'Russian Salad' I'd previously tasted.
Also, as an amuse bouche I was given the most beautiful souffle filled 'pie'. It's a mouthful of incredible flavour and texture.
Then the fun begins....
The highlight of the entire meal for me was the most original foie gras Crystal bread (crustini) with honey syrup & dried apricots. Totally decadent and one of the most delicious dishes I've been served in a very long time.
Next, Chef offered a mushroom and foie gras 'cup' - again, totally delicious and created through time, love and great knowledge of gastronomy....

Best Fish Restaurant Valencia Spain ~ Restaurante La Pepica ~ Sea View
Restaurante La Pepica in Valencia is one of the most authentic, traditional and enjoyable restaurants I've been lucky enough to dine at in Spain.
It's not surprising that this restaurant feels as though it has such incredible heritage as this eatery was founded in 1898.
Each plate served celebrates a remarkable history which you can literally taste throughout the meal.
La Pepica is a traditional Spanish fish restaurant with incredible local, seasonal and fresh ingredience.
With fresh fish, great service and sea view - La Pepica has it all....
From the moment you walk through the door of La Pepica the magic begins. You are able to walk past the kitchen and see the fresh fish available and the food being prepared.
The dining room is huge by modern standards and offers a smart, clean and spacious environment. La Pepica has the grandeur of by-gone age.
To begin we were served the gorgeous alioli sauce, tomato tepanade and fresh bread.
Simple - Gorgeous - The Perfect Amuse Bouche.
Then the fun began with my favourite traditional appetiser of 'queso manchego & jamon' - (the best Spanish ham and cheese). I added a Valencian Salad to form my dream starter and ultimate freshness.
Again, the joy of La Pepica is the simplicity. Not complicated but the most gorgeous flavours, ingredients and presentation.
