Fukui Castle Ruins ( 福井城址 )

First built in 1606, the area around Fukui Castle once flourished due to the Echizen-Matsudaira clan. At the time, the famous castle had a height of 37m and a castle tower with four levels and five floors, but it was burned down in a great fire. Currently, the prefectural government offices are built on the site with the surviving stone walls and moat showing what it was like back in the day.

How to get to Land of Happiness - Bhutan Museum from JR Fukui Station through Fukui Castle ruins

Then, I go for a walk in the beautiful Yokokan Garden, representative of the Edo period (1603-1868). The fall colors are stunning!

The 6th Candle Night in the moat of Fukui Castle Ruins, I am a Thousand Winds
The 6th in 2015 was held on Saturday, July 18th with the theme, The 70th anniversary of the Fukui Air Raids / Pass on the wishes of phoenix onto the next generation.
Here is a scene from that event with the famous song Sen no Kaze ni Natte (I am a Thousand Winds) sung by a male choir Golden Age Fukui, whose members are only sixty years old or older.
