48 Hours in India: Delhi, Agra & Jaipur
48 Hours in India: Delhi, Agra & Jaipur
India is a country that would take an entire lifetime to fully explore, so when we set our sights on just 48 hours in India, we knew it would be a challenge. However, knocking out the Golden Triangle (Delhi, Jaipur, Agra) in a weekend might just be possible.
TripVerse dared us to try and accomplish the feat and we took on the challenge, always up for proving adventure travel in exotic destinations is possible, even during a weekend trip.
If you know us, you know we take any chance we can to travel, but spending 48 hours in India has been on our list for a long time, and with so many short, cheap flights to India from Dubai, it was only a matter of time before we took on the challenge. Using a three day weekend, we flew direct to Delhi and had a car and driver waiting for us.
The Golden Triangle is one of the most popular tourist routes in India, allowing travelers to visit New Delhi, Agra, and Jaipur in just a few days time as all three cities are not only very close together, but vastly different.
We knew we wanted to end the trip with Delhi, so we immediately landed and headed straight to Agra to visit the Taj Mahal, and tried to get there before sunrise to avoid the crowds.
The Taj Mahal is just one of those sights that you can't really believe you are looking at, something you see 1,000 times in pictures and movies your entire life. As we arrived early enough, the entire site was void of crowds and covered in a layer of mist and fog. It was incredible to watch this amazing building emerge from the fog into all its glory as the sun broke. Take your time, explore the area from all angles and take the time to just sit down and stare at one of the most amazing buildings ever built.
Remember: No camera tripods are allowed in, so make sure to check them at the entrance building before going in. You'll have to check your backpacks as well.
One your way out of the Taj, walking down the street towards the entrance, just passed the Oberoi Villas is a hotel called Taj Spice which you cannot miss. Without any of the expense or fuss of such a fancy hotel, you can easily get up to their amazing rooftop cafe and sit outside while enjoying the same beautiful view people pay thousands for at the Oberoi. Their food is delicious and beer cold - and cheap!
Check out our full 48 Hours in India itinerary on TripVerse for more detailed information on this and all the places we visited and recommend!
On our way out of town, we stopped at the beautiful Agra Fort, which would easily the be the most stunning site in Agra if it weren't for the Taj Mahal. It is well worth the visit and a fraction of the price of the Taj. ($1 instead of $10)
As soon as we wrapped up at the Agra Fort and the sun was setting it was on to Jaipur! We raced against the clock to make the 4-hour drive before it got to late and arrived at our hotel around 9 pm. A quick meal and we were off to sleep. We were exhausted but loving the adventure!
No 48 hours trip to India should be without a visit to Jaipur if you are anywhere close. It might just be my favorite city in India. There is just something different about being in Rajasthan, the Pink City, as it is called.
There is enough to fill 48 hours alone in Jaipur, but we really only had part of a day so we did all the exploring in the time we had and saw a ton! First, it was off to the old part of the city to visit the Jaipur Palace, one of the coolest and most detailed palaces we've ever seen. Make sure to make your way back to the hidden chamber with detailed and ornately decorated doorways honoring the four seasons. Make sure to have your camera ready, they are made for Instagram!
Heading out of Jaipur, stop and visit the Floating Palace and the Elephant Village. We weren't interested in paying to ride or wash the elephants, just wanted to see them. If you drive down the road from the Elephant place, there is an actual village where each family cares for 2-3 elephants and this is really cool to see. Huge elephants and people living in harmony is a wonderful thing.
Jumping back in the car with Prakash, we headed directly to the Amer (or Amber) Fort, which is one of the most amazing places we have ever seen that we never knew existed! TripVerse said we should make the trek all the way up the stairs to the top and thank god we did. The Amer Fort is SUCH an amazing place to explore and I am shocked we'd never heard of it before.
We could have gotten lost here for hours, so make sure you take the time to just wander through the hidden hallways and secret...

India Golden Triangle - Delhi, Jaipur, Agra
4 day trip to India - visiting Red Fort, Qutub Minar, Humayun's Tomb, Jal Mahal, Amber Palace, Hawa Mahal, Jaipur City Palace.
Golden Triangle - Delhi Agra Jaipur on a Bullet!
This was my first long distance (~1000++kms) road trip - and I wanted it to be on a bullet! Me and my friend planned it together - to cover the Golden triangle - Delhi -Agra -Jaipur in less than 5 days. Our expectation out of this trip was the biking experience, and to visit just the couple of places these places were famous for. We had many setbacks even before we started - my friend had to back off due to an accident just days before our planned start - and Delhi's climate was just being a bitch!
Anyways I decided to go ahead and with the support from Stonehead bikes, I was able to complete the trip and enjoyed almost whole of it. The worst part was first day - when my bike broke down and I was stranded for 3 hrs, then I had to travel late night in freezing cold to reach Agra. But when I look back at it now, I feel it was an experience I am going to remember a long time, and makes me confident. Nevertheless it was fun - I went around looking for mechanics and a place to get water - finally Stonehead folks arrived with a spare bike - even though it was an off day for them.
About the ride - whether you are a bullet fan or you own one - you don't get to feel what a bullet really is until you go on a long distance trip on one. All along the way - on highways and small roads, day or night - that thump gives you confidence to push ahead fearless. What a faithful companion, and elegant machine! The yamuna expressway is one of the best highways I ever drove on. Impeccable roads, and but for the facilities dotting the stretch from Delhi to Agra, I would have died of hypothermia that day! Everytime I got down at a dhaba to warm myself and have coffee, I met people with an amused look on their face - one time a man made it clear saying hats off to you for travelling at this time in this weather! That was the best feeling ever :D Even in this weather, my bullet never gave up on me. The last few kilometers of to Agra, I was literally shivering on the handlebars- just hanging on. The visibility was so bad I had to duck under the clouds of fog to see the road. My ankles were frozen stiff in the biting cold winds, and would hurt every time I had to shift gear. The bike never flinched even once, and I was able to average 60 to 70 kmph even then. I dont think I could have done that on a normal street bike, unless it was as heavy and powerful as a bullet.
The spare bike I got did'nt have electric start. Every morning I would get a nice warmup turning on the cold engine - it had to be kickstarted and idled for about 15 minutes. But once this was done it had no other concerns.
I found it bit difficult to navigate the labrynth of roads in Delhi - I got lost a couple of times. People where very helpful all along - so were the traffic police, then I had GPS and google maps! The only time I got ticketed was when entering Rajasthan - bikes are not allowed to enter the tunnels, and I was in a hurrry to reach Amer fort before sunset. As soon as I got to the other end of the tunnell, two policemen stopped me. They were in a jolly mood and were intrigued by my luggage aand the GoPro strapped to my chest. After checking my license they said I had to pay a fine, which was around 500INR. After bargaining and whining a while, they took me inside the traffic check post room, mades ure the camera was switched off and took 200 rupees. I closed he deal without thinking much. The roads get very scenic as you near Rajasthan, since they are cut through rocks and small mountains on either side and the people in their traditional dresses, stone work masons by the side of the road and the like.
Four days - 3 cities- Awesome feeling! #Delhi #Agra #Jaipur #goldentriangle #India #royalenfield #one_ride #bullet
