Best Place To Visit At Kathmandu | Sundarijal |
Sundarijal is located about 17 km northeast of Kathmandu. The tiny village is the gateway to the Shivapuri National Park and along the popular Kathmandu Valley Trekking. Sundarijal is especially famous for the young local travellers for day hiking, swimming, picnic and bike riding. A couple of hours after an uphill hike, you will catch a spectacular view of the Kathmandu valley and the beautiful Tamang village called Mulkharka. The journey to Chisapani starts from Sundarijal and continues until Nagarkot, and further to Dhulikhel and Panauti. These areas are also famous for valley cycling tours and trekking trail for local and foreign tourists. Sundarijal also supplies water to Kathmandu as well as electricity to the valley through the Sundarijal Hydropower Station. The easiest way to reach Sundarijal is to rent a private car or taxi but as an alternative, it is also reachable by local bus. We would suggest arranging in advance if you would like to use a private car or hire a taxi to get to and from Kathmandu. If you are lucky, you might be able to get a taxi from Sundarijal but most likely the cost is higher than you would expect. wo of the most popular activities among locals and tourists are swimming and canyoning in the Sundarijal waterfall. Canyoning with an expert is one of the recommended adventures holidays in Nepal but please be reminded that it is also very dangerous without an expert guide. Due to the very strong current and water flow in Sundarijal, there were casualties reported this year so please take necessary precautions and ensure you hire a professional company such as Yatritrekking.com and Chhango Adventure to organise such kind of activities for you. The link below is worth reading about canyoning in Sundarijal. And also this video link will tell you how nice canyoning is in Sundarijal Nepal. A significant percentage of Kathmandu's drinking water and electricity is supplied by Sundarijal's Hydropower and Water Supply station. As the dam is located in the middle of the national park, it is surrounded by several waterfalls, beautiful jungle and green rice terraces. Due to this, it becomes an attraction for locals and tourists.
Drinking some local wine made by the Tamang community in Mulkharka and smoking Marijuana leaf from their backyard are also quite common in the area. While it is generally normal to smoke Marijuana leaf in their homes for medicinal purposes or occasional use in small amount, buying in large quantities and selling it in black market is illegal in the country.
