Landmarks of Zurich: Grossmunster
Built in 1220 AD, the Grossmünster dominates the Zurich skyline. This church along with the Fraumunster are the main churches within the Zurich area. Today it is a place of worship but historically it was the centre of a religious revolution.

Grossmünster and Sightseeing in Zurich
Take a tour of Zurich’s finest sites! Zurich is a city of balance between nature and city-life, which allows the city to offer those living there a very pleasant lifestyle. Zurich is also a hub for research and financial institutions, which ensures its economy thrives. Many beautiful sites and landmarks give Zurich its positive reputation. Grossmünster, a Romanesque-style church, is one of those landmarks. It is a protestant church built approximately 1100 and it is thought to be built on the site of another historic church commissioned by Charlemagne. This church claims the position of the senior church in Zurich. As legend Grossmünster has it, Charlemagne’s horse fell to its knees in respect for Zurich’s patron saints Felix and Regula.
Visitors can visit the Grossmünster tower for only 5 CHF. It is one of the best places to view the cityscape of Zurich. Be aware, though, that it does not have an elevator. Some other notable landmarks you will see in this video include Fraumünster, Uetliberg, St. Peter, Limmat River, Lindenhof, ETH, Quaibrüke, Rathaus, Prime Tower, and Helmhaus.

The Wasserkirche church was the founding place of the University of Zurich in 1634 and is located beautifully right on the water. The church is now connected to the mainland and is known by the name of the Water Church.
