Haydarpaşa Terminal
Istanbul Haydarpaşa Terminal or Haydarpaşa Terminus (Turkish: Haydarpaşa Garı) is a railway terminal in Istanbul. Until 2012 the station was a major intercity, regional and commuter rail hub as well as the busiest railway station in Turkey. Haydarpaşa, along with Sirkeci Terminal (on the other side of the Bosphorus), are Istanbul's two intercity and commuter railway terminals. As of 19 June 2013 all train service to the station has been indefinitely suspended due to the rehabilitation of the existing line for the new Marmaray commuter rail line. The station building however still houses the headquarters for District 1 of the State Railways.
The station building, built in 1909 by the Anatolian Railway (CFOA) as the western terminus of the Baghdad and Hedjaz railways, has become a symbol of Istanbul and Turkey and is famous throughout the Middle East.[1]
Haydarpaşa is situated on an embankment over the Bosphorus just south of the Port of Haydarpaşa and is slightly north from central Kadıköy. Until the suspension of rail service, ferry service was available to Eminönü, Karaköy and Kadıköy from the station's ferry dock.
The closure of the station has been subject to a lot of controversy. As it is unclear if Haydarpaşa will be re-opened to rail service once the Marmaray project is complete, many claim that the Turkish government is planning to sell the historic railway station along with the port and turn it into a residence/luxury resort

Flashback Friday: Haydarpasa Terminal Trains Istanbul, Turkey - July 2010
On June 19, 2013, Haydarpasa station in Kadikoy, Istanbul, Turkey among all political unrest in the country announced that it was closing to what train service it had left under the guise of renovations and future train services. The local RR, Turkish state Railways had been cutting off service after service, lowering the count down to one route to some suburb which I hadn't even heard of. Rumors and ideas of demolishing it keep coming up but I won't believe anything until I see it. The building and station has a rich history but has had lowpoints like a fire in November 2010. What is also cool about the rail scene there is the cars are pretty antiquated and look quite old as opposed to the newer stuff.
Anyway, in my vacation back in 2010, we look back at some 20 minutes or so of railfanning there. At that point it must've been like spotting since just about every minute there was something happening. I remember missing a freight train though by about 5 minutes but still it's all cool. Enjoy this package and blast from the not so distant past. I do apologize for shakiness but I didn't have my tripod on me that trip.
The video, 480p was remastered this year.

Historical remains under the Haydarpasa Railway Station in Istanbul | Travel Guide
I didn't go for a long time to the old railway station on the Asian Side of Istanbul.
The station is located in the Kadıköy district and the name is Haydarpaşa Garı. (Haydarpasha Station). The construction of the neoclassical building started in 1906 and finished 1909. The foundation of the station is based on 1100 wooden piles and each of them is 21 metres long.
I know that it is not used since a long time as a station. A fire destroyed the roof 2010. It was a sad moment to see this building burning.
And 2012 the Station closed totally because of the new metro system. There were even claims that the government was planning to sell the historic railway station and the Port of Haydarpaşa (Haydarpaşa Limani) to turn it into a residence resort. But later it was announced that the terminal will continue to serve as the high speed train station after the renovation.
Another interesting topic is that historical remains were recently found under the rails of the station. Archeologists believe the remains are scattered on an area of 300 decades. This was the main reason why i went to the Haydarpaşa Railway Station that day.
I also went to Mythos Restaurant, the old Gar Lokantasi (restaurant) which has a new operator since 2011.
In this video you will also meet the Turkish transport system which is called Dolmush (Dolmuş)

Haydarpasa Train Terminal Istanbul (filmed by Ben Oak)
August 2, 2017
Hello, In this video, I am sharing a ferry boat ride from Eminonu to Kadikoy, and while riding the ferry, we passed in front of the famous Haydarpasa Train Terminal.
Istanbul Haydarpasa Terminal was a railway terminal in Istanbul (Asian side of the big city) and until 2012 the station was a major intercity, regional and commuter rail hub, as well as the busiest railway station in Turkey. It is closed now for renovation.
The neo-classical Haydarpasa station / building, was built by Sultan Abdulhamit in 1906 to 1908 and its purpose was to connect the eastern lands of the Ottoman Empire to the capital of Istanbul.
The foundation is on 1,100 wooden piles, each 21 meters (69 feet) long, driven into the mushy shore by steam hammer.
This building has a deep history in the Turkish culture as it represents a passage from the urban eastern lands to the new west.
This video was filmed while on a ferry boat travelling from Eminonu (European side of the city) to Kadikoy (Asian side).
Enjoy.

The station was built in 1909 by the Anatolian Railway (CFOA) as the western terminus of the Baghdad and Hedjaz railways, has become a symbol of İstanbul and Turkey and is famous throughout the Middle East.
The Anatolian Railway hired two German architects, Otto Ritter and Helmut Conu, to build the new building. They chose a neo-classical structure and construction started in 1906. Its foundation is based on 1100 wooden piles, each 21 metres long, driven into the mushy shore by a steam hammer. German and Italian stonemasons crafted the facade embellishments of the terminal.

Istanbul’s Haydarpasa railway station | Money Talks
On Istanbul's Asian side of the Bosphorus Strait, stands the Haydarpasa railway station. It's one of the city's oldest. It survived the fall of the Ottoman Empire, World War I, military coups and a devastating fire. But Europe's gateway to the east now lacks one important component- trains.

Kadıköy, on the Asian shore of the Bosphorus just south of Haydarpaşa (map), was known in Byzantine times as Chalcedon.
Today it's a bustling commercial and transportation center, and Asian residential district of the megalopolis of Istanbul.
Kadıköy is untouristy and very Turkish middle class. It's well worth a half-day visit, perhaps combined with a visit to Üsküdar to the north.
Şehir Hatları, TurYol, and Dentur Avrasya ferryboats cross the Bosphorus regularly from Karaköy (Galata) and Eminönü at the mouth of the Golden Horn to Kadıköy.
The voyage is among Istanbul's greatest value-for-money pleasures: a 40-minute intercontinental cruise for about TL4!
The M4 Metro line goes from the Kadıköy ferry docks southeast to Kartal (map), with a connection to the Marmaray at Ayrılık Çeşmesi. From the bus station right next to the ferry docks, Havataş airport buses travel to Sabiha Gökçen Airport, farther to the east. More...
The Kadıköy market district (çarşı, CHAR-shuh), just inland from the ferry docks, is a particularly appealing one, with bright fruits and vegetables, lots of fish, and a variety of good restaurants with sidewalk tables in fair weather. More...
A bit farther along Güneşlibahçe Sokak and on sides streets is Kadıköy's meyhane district, dozens of Turkish tavernas serving good meals and any alcoholic beverages you may want.
If you're up for a walk, continue south along Moda Caddesi to the tea gardens on a promontory at Moda, with fine panoramic views across the Sea of Marmara to Old Istanbul. An alternate walk is along the seaside promenade that begins at the Kadıköy ferry docks and winds along the shore south and east for kilometers.
Farther south and east at Fenerbahçe (Lighthouse Garden—you'll see the lighthouse) is a beautiful park built and maintained by the Turkish Touring & Automobile Association. Its Romantika Restaurant is a fine place for a light meal or beverage, with indoor and outdoor dining areas, all with sea views.
Inland, Bağdat Caddesi (Baghdad Avenue) is Kadıköy's main commercial street, lined with upscale boutiques, stores, cafés, bars, restaurants and businesses. Its traffic lanes are jammed with BMWs, Range Rovers, Alfa Romeos and other luxury automobiles, its sideways thronged with the young (and not-so-young), mostly beautiful, and well-dressed.
Haydar pasa is Turkey's largest and most magnificent railway station which was built in the early 20th century by the German architects Otto Ritter and Helmuth Cuno. A monument to the close Turkish - German relations of the time, the station is in neo-renaissance style and has a U-plan. The inauguration ceremony took place on 19 August 1908, just after the proclamation of the Second Constitution.

Haydarpaşa was an important link in the railway chain of the Kaiser's Berlin-to-Baghdad railway scheme, part of the German Empire's strategic Drang nach Osten (Drive to the East) during the later 19th century.

İstanbul Sirkeci Terminal - Sirkeci tren garı
Istanbul Sirkeci Terminal, also known as Istanbul Terminal (Turkish: İstanbul Garı), is a railway terminal in Istanbul. The Terminal is located on the tip of Istanbul's historic peninsula right next to the Golden Horn and just northwest of Gülhane Park and the famous Topkapı Palace. Sirkeci Terminal, along with Haydarpaşa Terminal on the other side of the Bosphorus, are Istanbul's two intercity and commuter railway terminals. Built in 1890 by the Oriental Railway as the eastern terminus of the world famous Orient Express, Sirkeci Terminal has become a symbol of the city. As of 19 March 2013 service to the station had been indefinitely suspended due to the rehabilitation of the existing line between Kazlıçeşme and Halkalı for the new Marmaray commuter rail line. On 29 October 2013, a new underground station opened to the public and is currently serviced by Marmaray trains travelling across the Bosphorus. Sirkeci Terminal has a total of 4 platforms (3 above, 1 underground) with 7 tracks (5 above, 2 underground). Formerly, commuter trains to Halkalı would depart from tracks 2, 3 and 4 while Regional trains to Kapıkule, Edirne and Uzunköprü along with International trains to Bucharest, Sofiya and Belgrade would depart from tracks 1 and 5.
