How Toledo, Ohio Celebrates Arbor Day
It took 50+ years to grow and 50+ seconds to destroy. The great City of Toledo celebrates Arbor Day (Friday,April 26) with the destruction of more than 200 trees in the name of progress. Yup, that's right. The city administration has authorized the unnecessary removal of 88 trees in the Historic Old West End District along Collingwood Boulevard, and another 120-130 trees in the city's Crossgates neighborhood on Cherrylawn Drive.
At one time, Toledo was a tree city, but the city administration is removing all large trees that form a canopy. They're replacing them with pencil-size smaller ornamental and flowering trees that no one wants.
Experts have told the City it's not necessary to remove these magnificent old trees, but they deny the obvious and refuse to listen to reason. Instead, they listen to a guy who heads the Forestry Division who knows little or nothing. At a neighborhood meeting on 4/17, the mayor, Mike Bell, told residents protesting the destruction of trees that he was in favor of the project and would take the heat for it. Thankfully, this IS an election year. Remember in November.
Welcome to Toledo ... the city that celebrates Arbor Day by destroying 200+ trees. Oh yes ... and it's also Earth Week. Holy Toledo!

RUMRUNNER'S PARADISE
New Year's Eve, 1915 was a party to end all parties in Spokane. At the stroke of midnight, every saloon in the state would be out of business. This would be the last call before statewide prohibition would be enacted, closing the taps four years before the rest of the nation. But even as revelers saluted the new dry year, a lucrative wet underworld was forming between Spokane and Canada.

Listening is a more natural way of learning, when compared to reading. Written language only began at around 3200 BC, but spoken language has existed long ago.
Learning by listening is a great way to:
- increases imagination and understanding
- improves your listening skills
- improves your own spoken accent
- learn while on the move
- reduce eye strain
Now learn the vast amount of general knowledge available on Wikipedia through audio (audio article). You could even learn subconsciously by playing the audio while you are sleeping! If you are planning to listen a lot, you could try using a bone conduction headphone, or a standard speaker instead of an earphone.
