Swan Creek MetroPark, Toledo, OH
Set along the meandering Swan Creek, this metropark—one of more than 15—features a unique landscape. The creek’s winding curves create oxbows: bowing ponds made when high water changes the stream’s route.
When the customer came to us wanting a unique, hybrid play space, we used the landscape as inspiration. We studied the available space in person and worked with the park to develop a concept.
A net form for ages 2-5 mimics the oxbows of the preserve, and has two shade shelters with activities where little ones can relax. A custom net and two hill slides make use of the space’s natural contours. The main structure takes inspiration from post-and-platform systems, but replaces platforms with nets—something that would later inspire us to create infiNET™.
Metroparks Toledo Cannaley Treehouse Village: A Sneak Preview

There are four treehouses and three tent platforms for rent. This footage was shot on May 22, 2019, at which time the site was under construction.

We’re going out on a limb here, but we think you’re going to love the Cannaley Treehouse Village, opening in the 2019 season at Oak Openings Preserve in Swanton. ????????
The largest project of its kind in the United States, the Treehouse Village will feature a 6-person treehouse, a 4-person treehouse, two 2-person treehouses plus three tent/hammock platforms. It will also have a pavilion, a crow’s nest and a canopy walk.

Private Island Cabin Getaway - Metroparks Toledo presents the Granger Island Cabin.
Tucked away in the middle of the Maumee River, the Granger Island Cabin offers over 400 square feet of peace and quiet. Featuring a built-in wood stove, dinette, two sofas, and an attached deck, the Granger Island Cabin offers the ultimate escape. Enjoy a fire outside at the provided fire ring, or take a walk along the river shore for a peaceful getaway.
Parking will be at Waterworks Park to allow walk-in access across the river. The site is walkable across the river when water levels are at 3 feet or lower based on the USGS website. Paddle in access will be limited to river levels above 3 feet but under 6 feet.
