Schoenbrunn Village
In 1772 the Delaware Indians invited Moravian Church missionaries to enter the Ohio Country. David Zeisberger, along with five Indian families, established the first Christian settlement in Ohio (which was located in the Tuscarawas Valley). They named their community Schoenbrunn Village. Mary Catherine Swenk, age 88, of Tuscarawas¸died Wednesday, October 09, 2013 in Schoenbrunn Health Care at New Philadelphia.
Born at Tuscarawas, Ohio on March 9, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Gertrude (Sensanbaugher) Simmons.
On April 27, 1985, Mary wed Robert Swenk and both are members of Sharon Moravian Church. As an active member of the congregation, Mary was a member of the church choir and taught Sunday school.

Jerry Lee McConnell, 71, of New Philadelphia, went home to be with his Lord and Savior and to be reunited with his precious daughter, Jodi, early Monday morning, April 22, 2013 from Schoenbrunn Health Care at New Philadelphia following a period of declining health.
A son of the late Richard and Margaret (Baldwin) McConnell, Jerry was born May 7, 1941 at Dover, Ohio.
Jerry graduated from New Philadelphia High School in 1959. That same year, he enlisted with the United States Navy and honorably served his country until his discharge in July of 1961.

Sierra S. Hobart, 70, of New Philadelphia, died Wednesday, August 21, 2013 in her home following a period of declining health.
A daughter of the late Glenn and LoVera (Garrett) Malterer, Sierra was born July 20, 1943 at Dennison, Ohio.
A lifelong resident of Tuscarawas County, Sierra graduated from New Philadelphia High School in 1961. On June 4, 1966, Sierra married the love of her life, James Jim V. Hobart in Community of Christ Church at New Philadelphia.
