Home Of Rest For Horses
Website-
The Horse Trust is the world's oldest horse charity.
For over 125 years our Home of Rest for Horses has specialised in providing retirement and respite for working horses and ponies. These hard-working equine public servants have served our nation in the police, the army or working with charities who use horses to help people. We also provide sanctuary to horses, ponies and donkeys who have suffered from cruelty or neglect and who are in desperate need of specialist treatment and care.
It is at our Home of Rest for Horses that we demonstrate best practice and deliver professional training in horse care and welfare. We have invested in funding veterinary research that has led to major advances in horse care. This training and research helps develop the knowledge and skills needed to improve the care, welfare and quality of life of all horses.
From our very first day on 10th May 1886 we have relied entirely on donations from the general public to support our work.

Douglas & a two day old foal (Rubbing with Rope) Part 13 - H4O October 2016
Our neighbours bought a pregnant, semi-wild mare that had previously been neglected .Two days after she had given birth, they called us for help, as they couldn't catch the foal, nor the mare. Ingela took Douglas, Valdemir and Regynaldo and immediately went to see the horses. It was a good opportunity to help the neighbours and to teach the boys imprinting (even though it was two days late) and foal handling.
After one hour of approach and retreat, the group gained the trust of the mare and the foal. No one tried to touch the mare in this session.
It was Douglas' first experience with handling a foal. He did really well and by the end of the session the foal was soft, relaxed, enjoyed being stroked on his whole body, able to have all feet picked up, flex laterally, move the hindquarters and forehand a step, go forward, backward and lower his head to the ground. He had also accepted being rubbed with a plastic bag all over. In this video you will see him rub the foal all over with a rope. End of series.
Horses for Orphans is transforming the lives of orphans and at risk to be street children.
In learning how horses feel, think and communicate, and by becoming leaders who build relationships that are built on love, trust and honour instead of force or fear, the children begin to understand their own journey to healing.
The children in the Horses for Orphans projects can advance through a programme called the H-Factor to gain the necessary skills to pursue a career with horses and get out of poverty.
The 'Horses for Orphans' projects are lead by Richard & Ingela Larsson Smith.

Show jumping in the 1960's Featuring Hickstead and Douglas Bunn
A look at Show jumping in the 1960's featuring Douglas Bunn buying his famous horse Beethoven. Beethoven remains to this day the only British horse to ever be crowned World Champion, when David Broome rode him to victory at La Baule in 1970.
This footage is now over 50 years old, and according to the 1991 Copyright act now falls under the public domain.
Douglas demonstrating shrinking the bubble in trot March 20, 2017
Here you can see an example of shrinking the 'bubble' in trot. For those of you who are not familiar with the bubble, it's a concept Ingela teaches in her True Connection courses. You can also check it out in the H-Factor material.
Basically, you put your horse into a love bubble that goes around him and you and cause him to feel completely safe and protected by you inside the bubble. Then your ask your horse to give you some space between his body and yours, but you keep him inside the bubble. As he is cantering around you, you shrink the space between you that you have previously asked for, until your horse comes as closely to you as you wish. The boy in the video is Douglas, at 17 years old with his Arabian horse Yankee. The arena is 60 metres by 40 metres and there are two other horses inside the arena. Yankee chooses to stay with Douglas. When you practice to shrink the bubble, it is important you are not doing this inside a round pen. The horse must have the choice to go far from you....

PORTAGE DAILY REGISTER VIDEO: Big horse
Video and Story by Lyn Jerde, Daily Register
Jake, a 9-year-old Belgian gelding, one of about 20 Belgian draft horses at Smokey Hollow Farm near Poynette, Wis., was destined to be a big horse from the moment of his birth. On Tuesday, Jake and his owners staked their claim that he may be the tallest horse in the world.
In front of numerous video and still cameras, Jakes owners, handler and a veterinarian took three separate measurements of his height from hoof (without shoes) to withers (the area between a horses shoulders and neck).
The official measurement: 20 hand, 2.75 inches.
A hand, in horse measurement, equals 4 inches, so that would make Jake 82.75 inches tall, or a quarter-inch short of 6 feet, 11 inches.
The owners of Smokey Hollow Farm will submit Jakes measurements, and the documentation of how they were made, to the publishers of Guinness World Records in England, in the hope that Jake will unseat a black and white Clydesdale in Texas, named Remington, as the worlds tallest living horse.
The owners conducted three measurements, one of which is shown in this video. The publishers of Guiness World Records will make the final determination.
Read more about Jake at portagedailyregister.com.

George Washington Ancestral Home

Washington Old Hall is a manor house located in the Washington area of Tyne and Wear, England, United Kingdom. It lies in the centre of Washington, being surrounded by other villages. The manor was the ancestral home of the family of George Washington, the first President of the United States.William de Hertburne, an ancestor of George Washington, assumed tenancy of the Wessyngtonlands from the Bishop of Durham for an annual fee of £4. Soon after, he changed his name to William de Wessyngton (later Washington). Although he used the Norman French spelling (based on a Middle English rendition of the original), the estate is of Anglo-Saxon (specifically Anglic) origin, originally being Hwæssingatūn, meaning estates of the descendents of Hwæssa (Hwæssa being rendered Wassa in Modern English).[citation needed] In 1613 the Washington family moved south to Sulgrave Manor in Northamptonshire, and the manor was sold to the Bishop of Durham.
The Hall continued to be used as a residence until the 19th century, when it became tenement flats and gradually fell into disrepair. In 1936 the building was declared unfit for human habitation, and was rescued from demolition by Fred Hill, a local teacher, who created what is now the Friends of the Old Hall to press for restoration of the building. Preservation work stopped during World War II, but was completed in 1955. In 1957 the National Trust assumed responsibility for the building.
As a result of these historic ties, Washington, D.C., and City of Sunderland have announced a friendship agreement, hoping to create cultural and economic ties with one another (see sister cities or town twinning).
The Wessyngton (Washington) Family had not owned Washington Old Hall since the early 15th century when Sir William Mallory married Dionysia Tempest, the last Wessyngton heir at the Hall. Dionysia was daughter of Sir William Tempest and his cousin, Eleanor Wessyngton. The sale in 1613 was by Sir John Mallory and Anna Eure, investors in the Virginia charter; Sir John Mallory having been a descendant of Sir William Mallory and Dionysia Tempest.Freemasonry
Masonic Memorial
Washington was initiated into Freemasonry in 1752. He had a high regard for the Masonic Order and often praised it, but he seldom attended lodge meetings. He was attracted by the movement's dedication to the Enlightenment principles of rationality, reason, and fraternalism. The American lodges did not share the anti-clerical perspective that made the European lodges so controversial. In 1777, a convention of Virginia lodges recommended Washington to be the Grand Master of the newly established Grand Lodge of Virginia. He declined, due to his responsibility in leading the Continental Army at a critical stage. He also did not consider it Masonically legal to serve as Grand Master because he had never been installed as Master or Warden of a lodge. In 1788, Washington was named Master in the Virginia charter of Alexandria Lodge No. 22, with his personal consent George Washington's legacy remains among the two or three greatest in American history, as Commander-in-Chief of the Continental Army, hero of the Revolution, and the first President of the United States. Congressman Henry Light-Horse Harry Lee, a Revolutionary War comrade, famously eulogized Washington, First in war—first in peace—and first in the hearts of his countrymen.
Lee's words set the standard by which Washington's overwhelming reputation was impressed upon the American memory. Biographers hailed him as the great exemplar of republicanism. Washington set many precedents for the national government, and the presidency in particular, and was called the Father of His Country as early as 1778 Washington's Birthday is a federal holiday in the United States. In terms of personality, biographer Douglas Southall Freeman concluded, the great big thing stamped across that man is character. By character, says David Hackett Fischer, Freeman meant integrity, self-discipline, courage, absolute honesty, resolve, and decision, but also forbearance, decency, and respect for others.
Washington became an international icon for liberation and nationalism, as the leader of the first successful revolution against a colonial empire. The Federalists made him the symbol of their party but, for many years, the Jeffersonians continued to distrust his influence and delayed building the Washington Monument. On January 31, 1781, he was elected a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
During the United States Bicentennial year, George Washington was posthumously appointed to the grade of General of the Armies of the United States by the congressional joint resolution .
