Thermopolis is Greek for Hot City. The “Hot Springs State Park” is home to the world’s largest mineral hot springs. It has numerous mineral-rich hot springs heated from deep within the earth. In 1896, the Shoshone and Arapaho Indian tribes signed a treaty allowing free public access to the hot springs.
Unfortunately, an unexplained dramatic decline in the flow of water feeding the springs has experts scratching their heads. The flow of 13 million gallons/day in 1896 is now down to 3.5 million gallons/day. I just hope the springs will continue to produce this spectacular scene for many years to come.

Hot Springs State Park at Thermopolis WY
At the entrance of this big hot spring complex I passed this peculiar rock. It looks as if its eroded by the constant waterflow. However, it is not eroded but added on by the minerals that come with the waterflow. The minerals settle as a deposit onto the pipe from which the water flows.

Put this on your bucket list | Thermopolis Hot Springs State Park
(Daily Video #19) In the center of Wyoming is the little town of Thermopolis. It is best known for being home to Hot Springs State Park and Bath House. This amazing free park is well worth a stop if you are anywhere near the middle of Wyoming. They have a free hot springs bath house, the world's largest hot spring, a suspension bridge, a beautiful river walk, as well as the Rainbow Terrace. We loved it!

A visit to Granite Hot Springs in late June 2014. At the end of a gravel road nestled in the Rocky Mountains, a great place to relax. Southeast of Jackson, Grand Teton National Park and Yellowstone National Park.

Hot Springs State Park Thermopolis
We were training in Worland, WY, the week of Christmas, but no hotel there takes dogs. I had to drive the 32 miles back and forth from Thermopolis, but WYDOT is great. Great roads throughout.
The Days Inn at the state park is an old hotel with front and back entrances to the rooms, but we love it. The Safari Bar is a must see and they had decorated for Christmas.
This state park should be on your bucket list; any time of year.
