Brunello di Montalcino - Tuscany - Italy
Brunello di Montalcino is a red Italian wine produced in the vineyards surrounding the town of Montalcino located about 120 km south of Florence in the Tuscany wine region. Brunello, a diminutive of Bruno, a male given name which means brown, is the name that was given locally to what was believed to be an individual grape variety grown in Montalcino. In 1879 the Province of Siena's Amphelographic Commission determined, after a few years of controlled experiments, that Sangiovese and Brunello were the same grape variety, and that the former should be its designated name. In Montalcino the name Brunello evolved into the designation of the wine produced with 100% Sangiovese. In 1980, Brunello di Montalcino was awarded the first Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita (DOCG) designation and today is one of Italy's best-known and most expensive wines.

Karen Brown's Locanda Palazzone, Orvieto, Italy
Locanda Palazzone is a charming Bed and Breakfast in the town Orvieto in Italy. It distinguishes itself from the more standard agriturismo or bed and breakfast choices by its contemporary interiors wrapped up in a 14th-century building. It was once a cardinal's home and a stopover on a pilgrimage to Rome, the hillside residence takes in wide open views over the valley.

ATS Wines introduction of a Tuscan red from Montalcino from Paradiso di Frassina vinery
ATS Wines is pleased to present a Tuscan red from Montalcino from Paradiso di Frassina, a local organic producer. Sangiovese Grosso, monovarietal, 12 months in barriques. A serious wine, very interesting and fruity. Pair with classic Italian dishes, especially meat based. Well-aged, it fully expresses its terroir. From the famous Mozart vineyard, it's made and aged with speakers in the vineyard and the cellar always playing Mozart, blending with the music of the wind, the birds, and the poetry of Montalcino. A land worth visiting and a wine worth tasting.
Parsons: I love the wine, I love the place, I love the food, I love the people

Introducing Brunello 2013
We're doing the rimontaggi twice a day in order to oxgenate the fermenting wine and wet and disperse the cap of seeds and skins that forms at the top of the barrels. Rimontaggi involves cycling wine from the bottom of the vat back over the top of the cap. This process aerates the wine and evens out the temperature in the wooden fermenting barrel. The wine below the cap is slightly cooler and most of the yeasts and enzymes are living, eating and producing alcohol in the cap so it is important to keep it wet with fresh sugar so that fermentation can progress.
