Crystal C.'s Review on The Dyrt:
▶︎ Opting to join the RVs to enjoy a bit more quiet at state park
With a vast number of campgrounds in the Branson, MO area it might be a difficult decision for a tent camper to make when it comes to selection, however upon my trip I decided to stick with what I have known to be well maintained and patrolled campsites for solo campers. State parks, much like National Parks tend to be popular places to stay in way of price point as well as quality of overall amenities.
I elected Table Rock State Park for my two night stay in the region. However when I went to book online I was a bit discouraged by the booking system. Additional fees are charged for online reservations, typically something I avoid as an unnecessary up-charge to the camper. I instead went out on faith and drove to the campsite arriving around dusk on a busy Saturday.
The campgrounds offer two separate campgrounds during what is known to be the busy season, each offering their own unique set of amenities. Campground 1 features higher and lower amp electrical connections, popular with RV and tent campers. Campground 2 offers these as well but also primitive campsites at a much lower rate.
Typically, I would elect for a primitive site because I have no need to use electricity. This trip, however, I did need a charging station for my devices and thus opted for electrical.
The way site selection works is simple, you first drive to the campsites and look around for yellow vacancy signs. Once you have found the site you are interested in you grab the sign and take it to the office where they register that site to you for the evening.
Even on the busy Saturday, late in the day, I was able to secure a site in a semi shaded area located just a short distance from the public use water spouts as well as bathroom and shower facilities. Prices were very reasonable as well $23 for my site (a higher voltage site I selected merely because of the neighbors and tree coverage), $21 for lower voltage and $13 for primitive.
The site itself was a bit rocky, much like all others in Camp...

Part 1: Great Day at Silver Dollar City Theme Park
Silver Dollar City is a theme park in the US state of Missouri. Opened on May 1, 1960, the park is located between Branson and Branson West off of Missouri Route 76 on the Indian Point peninsula of Table Rock Lake.
The hole, first called Marble Cave because the limestone walls were thought to be marble, was one of the first attractions in what would become Branson. Eons old and hidden beneath the hills, it was first discovered by the Osage Indians in 1500, described by geologists in the 1860s and explored in the 1880s by adventurers who lowered themselves on ropes 200 feet into the main chamber. One of those adventurers was a newspaper publisher who began to write about the cave's beauty and mystery.
A group of Union Civil War veterans formed a mining company to mine resources from the cave, mining tons of nitrogen-rich bat guano from the cave in the 1880s, but finding no marble. Scientific American magazine described the cave in 1885, and word of the natural wonder spread throughout the continent. Canadian mining expert William Henry Lynch read of the cave, purchased it sight unseen, traveled to the Ozarks and, with his two daughters, opened the cave to public tours in 1894.
The town square had a blacksmith shop, a general store, an ice cream parlor, a doll shop, and two 1800s authentic log structures which had been relocated and restored, the McHaffie homestead and the Wilderness Church. For entertainment, a small troupe of Silver Dollar City citizens dressed in 1880s costumes performed street theater, presenting humorous feuds between the Hatfields and the McCoys. The staff, including Herschends, was about 17 people.
Silver Dollar City now encompasses more than 100 acres, showcasing America's heritage crafts with a demonstrating colony of 100 resident craftsmen - woodcarvers, glassblowers, potters, leather crafters, candle makers, knife makers and more.
Rides include the groundbreaking wood coaster Outlaw Run, the world’s most daring wood coaster. Thrill ride enthusiasts around the world marked this first-of-its-kind ride debut as the park made history with the March 2013 opening of Outlaw Run. The new $10 million ride sends passengers soaring through the Ozark Mountains on a wood coaster that includes several firsts.
Outlaw Run features the world’s first and only double barrel roll on a wood coaster, with a 720-degree (double) barrel roll. It is the only wood coaster to twist upside down with a record-breaking three inversions; the world’s steepest wood coaster with a first drop of 162 feet (more than 16 stories) at 81 degrees – nearly vertical; and the second fastest wood coaster in the world, reaching a top speed of 68 miles per hour. Outlaw Run was voted Best New Ride of 2013 worldwide.
Additional rides include the explosive launch roller coaster PowderKeg, named the Best Family Thrill Coaster on the Planet by Thrillride.com; the multi-looping roller coaster WildFire; the super-soaking water raft ride Tom & Huck’s RiverBlast; and the Giant Swing that launches riders more than seven stories in the air and nearly upside down at roller-coaster speeds.
