Places to see in ( Bologna - Italy ) Archiginnasio di Bologna
Places to see in ( Bologna - Italy ) Archiginnasio di Bologna
The Archiginnasio of Bologna is one of the most important buildings in the city of Bologna; once the main building of the University of Bologna, it currently houses the Archiginnasio Municipal Library and the Anatomical Theatre.
The construction of the Archiginnasio dates back to the 16th century, when Piazza Maggiore was drastically remodeled under papal orders; the Fountain of Neptune was built during this same period. The construction of the Archiginnasio was commissioned by Pope Pius IV through the papal legate Charles Borromeo and the vice-legate Pier Donato Cesi during the years of the Council of Trent, who then entrusted the project to Antonio Morandi (known as il Terribilia). The building was begun at the end of February 1562, built very quickly, it was inaugurated on October 21, 1563. The goal of this project was to create a single place where the Schools of the Legisti (Canon and Civil law) and Artisti (philosophy, medicine, mathematics, natural sciences and physics), previously located in various places across the town, could be hosted together. The building of the new Schools was named Archiginnasio after the classical term which was used to designate the Studium, as the University was first called, of Bologna.
The Archiginnasio ceased from being a University in 1803 when the University was moved to Palazzo Poggi where it is still located today. Scuole Pie (primary schools) where housed in this building for a few years and later, from 1838 onwards, were replaced by the city library. Archiginnasio Municipal Library is the largest library in Emilia-Romagna. It was first established to keep the books collected from the closure of the religious orders made by Napoleon. At present it boasts 850,000 volumes and pamphlets, including 2,000 incunabula, about 15,000 16th century editions, 8,500 manuscripts, letters, collections of autographs, prints and drawings, and 250 archives. All of this material, handwritten and printed collections, are of the utmost importance. They deal with the civil, cultural, religious and social history of Bologna and its territory.
Externally the building presents a porch some 139 meters long comprising thirty arches supported by sandstone columns, inside a central courtyard with two line of loggias that surrounds the former church of Santa Maria dei Bulgari. Two stairways lead to the upper floor where are located the study rooms of the legisti (students who studied civil and canon law), and the artisti (students of other subjects such as philosophy, literature and medicine). Each of the legisti and the artisti had five classrooms in their respective wings, however only the legisti, who were considered the university's top students, had their classrooms in the main hallway. At the end of each wing there are two great halls, one of them has now become the library's reading room, the other one is now used as a congress room and is known as Sala dello Stabat Mater in memory of the first performance of Rossini's Stabat Mater, directed by Gaetano Donizetti, on March 18, 1842.
The upper level of the building still houses the Anatomical theatre, which was built in 1636 by Antonio Levanti. It was the hall used for anatomy lectures and displays. It is shaped like an amphitheater and made from fir wood with a coffer ceiling, decorated with statues. It is overlooked by the ornate seat of the professor, topped by a baldaquin and supported by the statues of two naked and skinless men, known as gli spellati (the skinned ones), made by Ercole Lelli. The numerous sculptures that decorated the walls represent doctors from ancient and modern times: the busts are of people considered of lesser importance, while the most revered are represented in full. The two main statues, from left to right, represent Hippocrates and Galen, the most prominent physicians of Greece and Rome, respectively. Another statue on the wall opposite the chair represents a medic holding a nose in his hand: it is a portrayal of Bologna native Gaspare Tagliacozzi, an early pioneer of rhinoplasty.

Presentazione Bologna per il Congresso Nazionale 2015
Il Lions Club Bologna presenta la candidatura della Città di Bologna quale sede del Congresso Nazionale 2015. Venite con noi..
SCROLL DOWN FOR THE WORDS OF THE VIDEO
Hi, my name is Cristiano Cremonini from the Bologna Lions Club.
In 2015 our club will turn 60 and we would like to celebrate this important achievement together with you.
For this reason, we would like to propose our city as the venue of the 2015 Lions National Convention.
We would like to give Bologna the best of the Italian Lions experience and to you we would like to give the possibility to discover our awesome city.
Bologna is at the centre of Italy -- Bologna is at the centre of our heart.
We love our city. We are happy to bring you to discover it.
Bologna awaits you with open arms! Come with me...
« Bologna la dotta, la grassa, la rossa » (an Italian saying that means « Bologna the cultivated, the fat, the leftist »). Bologna, the liveable and hospitable city. Bologna, the queen of the Italian eat-well experience.
In 2000 it was nominated European Capital of Culture and since 2006 it is a UNESCO City of Music.
Bologna: Alma Mater Studiorum (this Latin formula, meaning Mother Soul of the Studies, is also the name of the local university). With the most ancient university in the world Bologna has always been at the centre of Italy: now on a plane, a car or a train the city is easily at reach from every corner of Italy.
In 2010 the city was an acclaimed venue of the Europa Forum.
The Lions National Convention works will take place at the Manzoni Theatre, which is located at the heart of the city in via Indipendenza. They shall also take place at the excellent four stars Royal Hotel Carlton, historical seat of our club.
The Friday concert is currently being planned together with other friends from the Bologna music scene. It shall take place at the restored Manzoni Theatre, which is the Bologna Comunale Theatre symphonic seat.
We want to take you to the Piazza Maggiore with its Neptune statue, to the D'Accursio Palace which hosts the Townhall, as well as to the Re Enzo Palace and San Petronio.
Bologna is the city of porches: the Paviglione porch represents a clear example of this. The superb Egyptian museum, the ancient Archiginnasio library with its Anatomico Theatre, the historical Zanarini café in the Galvani Piazza and the renowned Cavour Galleria, where one can find the best Italian and foreign brands...
The distinctive and tight d'Azeglio road was the home to renowned singer Lucio Dalla. Bologna is the Medieval city where small alleys are striking. Since time immemorial the two towers (Asinelli and Garisenda) are the emblem of a city where Dante's verses still echo.
Piazza Santo Stefano and its seven churches is perhaps the most enchanting spot in Bologna. In the city centre you also may find the typical Quadrilatero market and the many historical grocery stores where one can still taste many culinary specialties from our tradition.
The most visible sight ruling on all other is definitely the Madonna di San Luca Sanctuary on the Guardia hill. With its almost four kilometres in length, the porch of the sanctuary is perhaps the longest in the world!
Dear Lions Club friends, celebrate with us the sixtieth birthday of the Bologna Lions Club.
In 2015 chose Bologna as the Italian capital of the Lions Club National Convention.
We are waiting for you. Vote for us.
The Bologna Lions Club

Places to see in ( Cesena - Italy )
Places to see in ( Cesena - Italy )
Between the Romagna Apennines and the sea, about 15 km from the Adriatic Riviera of Rimini and about 30 km from Ravenna, is Cesena, a beautiful Malatestian town. One of the most important artistic points of interest in Romagna, Cesena is a must for good food and wine lovers. The lordship of the Malatesta family brought Cesena to the apex of its culture and history, with some architectural and artistic treasures that can still be visited today.
Cesena’s important international position in the agri-food sector and its culinary traditions place the town among the most important destinations of the Romagna hinterland.
Cesena is an interesting destination all year round. Among its treasures is the Malatestian Library, one of the most important examples of an Italian fifteenth century library. The reason why the library is so precious is that it has remained completely unchanged, as it was five centuries ago. Due to its extraordinary heritage, it was included in the Unesco “Memory of the World” list.
The Malatesta Family also built the Rocca Malatestiana, the Fortress of Cesena, one on the most impressive of Romagna. It can be seen from its bastions, with its two buildings: the Male and the Female towers. The latter hosts the Museum of Agricultural History which offers visitors an insight into the rural areas of Romagna over the years. The walkways inside the walls, the old prisons and the exhibition of joust weapons are also very interesting.
If you visit Cesena, you can’t miss a walk in the lively streets of the old town, from Piazza del Popolo, with the beautiful Fontana Masini to Palazzo del Ridotto, with the bronze statue of pope Pius VI, from the Cathedral of S. Giovanni Battista, with the chapel of Madonna del Popolo and the Museum of Sacred Art, and the “Alessandro Bonci” Theatre, a true neoclassical jewel. The culture offered is complemented by the Museum of Natural Sciences, the Municipal Art Gallery (hosting the precious painting of Madonna della Pera by Paolo Veneziano), the Archaeological Museum and the Museum of Centuriation.
On a hill, visible from everywhere in the town, is the Abbazia of Santa Maria del Monte about a thousand years old. The Abbey is famous for its internationally known collection of ex-voto (wooden votive tablets), some of which were painted more than five centuries ago, and for the impressive dome painted by Giuseppe Milani. The Abbey also hosts some important and precious paintings and a laboratory for the restoration of ancient books.
Villa Silvia-Carducci is a magnificent mansion located in Lizzano, on the hills between Cesena and Bertinoro, and hosts Musicalia, an interesting and peculiar museum entirely dedicated to mechanical music, and the personal room of the Nobel laureate poet Giosuè Carducci.

Antonio Vivaldi Andante 2nd Movement Concerto in G Major RV 532 played by violinist João Pedro Cunha
Antonio Vivaldi Andante 2nd Movement Concerto in G Major RV 532 played by violinist João Pedro Cunha. The original piece was written for 2 mandolins but other arrangements for different instruments have been subsequently created. This arrangement for violin is performed by master violinist João Pedro Cunha accompanied Pedro Carlos Silva on Synthesizer. Antonio Lucio Vivaldi was born on 4th March 1678 in Venice. He has been recognized as one of the greatest Baroque composers both during his lifetime and well after. He was a prolific composer of instrumental concertos, choral works, and over 40 operas. His most popular works are the 4 violin concertos - The Four Seasons (Italian: Le quattro stagioni). Vivaldi’s father Giovanni Battista, a barber who became a professional violinist, taught him violin and they toured Venice playing together. By the age of 24 Vivaldi had gained extensive musical skills and he became Maestro di Violino (master of violin) at an orphanage called the Pio Ospedale della Pietà (Devout Hospital of Mercy) in Venice. Over the following 30 years he composed most of his main works whilst working there. The composer achieved noted success with requests for commissioned works from European nobility and royalty including Emperor Charles VI. Vivaldi moved to Vienna in the hope of further work but the Emperor died soon after his arrival and Vivaldi died less than a year later on 28 July 1741 at the age of 63. He is buried next to the Karlskirche, in an area which is now part of the site of the Vienna University of Technology. The video image shows a likely portrait of Vivaldi painted by an unknown artist and kept in the Museo Internazionale e Biblioteca della Musica di Bologna (International Museum and Library of Music of Bologna). Paolo Benedetto Bellinzani - Sonata a Tre in Re min.
Paolo Benedetto Bellinzani (Mantova or Ferrara, 1682 - Recanati, February 25, 1757) was an Italian composer.
We do not know exactly the place where he was born, as some sources give Ferrara and other Mantova.
Nothing is known about the early years of his life and on the studies.
At age 25 he was appointed choirmaster at the Cathedral of Udine.
Subsequently he is supposed to have embraced the ecclesiastical career and held the post of Kapellmeister in Ferrara, in Pesaro, Urbino, Fano and Orvieto.
In 1737 he was given the assignment of the cathedral choirmaster of Recanati, a post he held until his death.
His sacred and secular vocal music reached a wide celebrity, and his Salmi brevi Op.2 were among the most widespread works of the genre of the first half of the eighteenth century.
Very performed today are the 12 Sonate a flauto solo con cembalo, o violoncello.
The Sonata a Tre I perform, originally for 2 Violins and Bass, (the score at //gardane.info), is contained in a manuscript preserved in Bologna at the International Museum and library of music entitled Dodici sonate da Chiesa a 3, con due Violini o Basso ad imitazione di quelle di Arcangelo Corelli.
