Open Mosque Day: Germany's mosques open their doors to public
On the same day every year, around a thousand mosques in Germany invite people from different faiths to have a look inside and learn about Islam. This year's Open Mosque Day comes on the heels of German elections in which an anti-immigrant party captured almost thirteen percent of the vote. Ira Spitzer reports from Berlin.

Former church in Hamburg becomes mosque, Germany
In a ceremony on Wednesday, a mosque will be inaugurated in a building in Hamburg, Germany, that was used as a church for years.
After years of renovations, the building, now known as An-Noor Mosque, will start serving Muslim worshipers tomorrow.
The project to convert the building into a mosque that began in 2013 has been controversial.
The building was used by Christians as the Capernaum Church until it was sold to An-Noor Islamic Center due to financial problems.
There was some opposition from the people in Horn, the working-class district of Hamburg where the church has stood since 1961.
However, most people have been supporting the Muslim community’s right to have a place of worship and the project is now over after years and spending of some 5 million euros.

GERMANY: HAMBURG: FIRE BOMB EXPLODES IN TURKISH MOSQUE
German/Eng/Nat
Fire bombs exploded just before dawn today (Wednesday) in a Turkish mosque in Hamburg and Turkish offices in three other German cities.
No one was hurt in the bombings and no one claimed responsibility for the attacks, which followed similar attacks the night before.
Police have blamed previous attacks on Kurds linked to extortion rings or separatist militants battling for a Kurdish homeland in southeast Turkey.
This was the mess left by yesterday's fire bomb attack in Berlin. The office of 'Turkei Tours' was virtually destroyed.
There have been attacks like this in Duisburg, Leunen and Hamburg over the last 48 hours including one at a mosque in Hamburg.
No one has claimed responsibility but Kurdish militants who have attacked Turkish interests in Germany over the last couple of years are suspected.
SOUNDBITE:
Let me tell you straight away that it's a planned and orchestrated campaign namely to blemish the image of Turkey abroad but more particularly to obstruct tourism activity from Germany to Turkey.
SUPER CAPTION: Riza Erkmenoglu, Turkish Consul General to Berlin
Other Turkish establishments- like this branch of a Turkish Bank- are also subject to being defaced or attacked.
Some 2 (m) million Turks live in Germany, where they are the largest
minority. About 450-thousand of the Turks are Kurds.
Germany has detained thousands of Kurds for deportation, but has been frustrated in its attempts to send them home. Their supporters say that Kurds, one of the world's largest ethnic groups without its own nation, face torture and death if returned to Turkey.
A temporary restraining order against deporting Kurds elapsed
today as the parliament discussed the issue.
The leader of this Kurdish Union based in Germany says he's not sure Kurds are responsible for the latest violence.
SOUNDBITE: (German- English for guidance only)
We condemn this action... as we are based here in Germany. We don't know who is responsible but there is much speculation in the newspapers and on TV.

Germany: Mosque frequented by suspected Salafi militants raided in Hamburg
Police in Hamburg raided the Masjid el Iman mosque believed to be frequented by supporters of the Salafist group 'The True Religion' (Die wahre Religion, DWR) on Tuesday.
On Tuesday morning, German police raided more than 200 mosques and homes across the country, targeting people they believe to be linked to The True Religion. According to German Interior Minister Thomas de Maiziere, members of the group are accused of having recruited young people to join terrorist groups in Syria or Iraq. The government estimates that around 140 recruits have travelled abroad to fight after attending The True Religion events. Members of the group, also known as 'Read Foundation' (Lies Stiftung), reportedly approached people in pedestrian areas and handed out translations of the Quran.

Anti-Islamist Riots in Germany: Hooligans Against Salafists
Subscribe to VICE News here:
Demonstrations held by the far-right group Hooligans against Salafists — also known as HoGeSa — have recently gained momentum in Germany, as they organize marches in cities across the country. While the group claims to be protesting against Islamist extremism, the movement is widely accused of harnessing Islamophobia as a means of spreading racism.
VICE News followed the Hooligans against Salafists movement from its first full-blown demonstration-turned-riot in Cologne, which was attended by 4,800 people. We also met with Islamic campaigner Sven Lau, who recently rose to infamy by starting a “Sharia Police,” and has consequently been used as a prominent example of the “Islamic invasion” of Germany by the HoGeSa movement.
