Ducati Factory, (Borgo Panigale, Bologna, Italy) Production Footage, Assembly Plant
In 1926 Antonio Cavalieri Ducati and his three sons, Adriano, Marcello, and Bruno Cavalieri Ducati; founded Società Scientifica Radio Brevetti Ducati in Bologna to produce vacuum tubes, condensers and other radio components. In 1935 they had become successful enough to enable construction of a new factory in the Borgo Panigale area of the city. Production was maintained during World War II, despite the Ducati factory being a repeated target of Allied bombing.
Ducati Factory
Ducati Cucciolo, 1950
The company started manufacturing motor vehicles when in 1950, manufacturing the Cucciolo, a engine for mounting on bicycles, for a small Turinese firm, SIATA (Societa Italiana per Applicazioni Tecniche Auto-Aviatorie), later selling an product of their own based on the Cucciolo. In the following years, the company expanded their offer when the marked moved on to larger motorcycles.
In 1953, management split the company into two separate entities, Ducati Meccanica SpA and Ducati Elettronica, in acknowledgment of its diverging motorcycle and electronics product lines. Ducati Elettronica became Ducati Energia SpA in the eighties. Dr. Giuseppe Montano took over as head of Ducati Meccanica SpA and the Borgo Panigale factory was modernized with government assistance. By 1954, Ducati Meccanica SpA had increased production to 120 bikes a day.
In the 1960s, Ducati earned its place in motorcycling history by producing the fastest 250 cc road bike then available, the Mach 1.[4][5][6] In 1985, Cagiva bought Ducati and planned to rebadge Ducati motorcycles with the Cagiva name. By the time the purchase was completed, Cagiva kept the Ducati name on its motorcycles. Eleven years later, in 1996, Cagiva accepted the offer from Texas Pacific Group and sold a 51% stake in the company for US$325 million; then, in 1998, Texas Pacific Group bought most of the remaining 49% to become the sole owner of Ducati. In 1999, TPG issued an initial public offering of Ducati stock and renamed the company Ducati Motor Holding SpA. TPG sold over 65% of its shares in Ducati, leaving TPG the majority shareholder. In December 2005, Ducati returned to Italian ownership with the sale of Texas Pacific's stake (minus one share) to Investindustrial Holdings, the investment fund of Carlo and Andrea Bonomi.
In April 2012, Volkswagen Group's Audi subsidiary announced its intention to buy Ducati for €860 million (US$1.2 billion). Volkswagen chairman Ferdinand Piëch, a motorcycle enthusiast, had long coveted Ducati, and had regretted that he passed up an opportunity to buy the company from the Italian government in 1984. Analysts doubted a tiny motorcycle maker would have a meaningful effect on a company the size of Volkswagen, commenting that the acquisition has a trophy feel to it, and, is driven by VW's passion for nameplates rather than industrial or financial logic. Italian luxury car brand Lamborghini was strengthened under VW ownership. AUDI AG's Automobili Lamborghini S.p.A. subsidiary acquired 100 percent of the shares of Ducati Motor Holding S.p.A. on 19 July 2012 for €747 million (US$909 million)

Visiting the Lamborghini Factory and Museum in Italy
Visiting the Lamborghini museum and factory is really an amazing experience. Watching the amazing cars being built and seeing such rare models such as the Lamborghini Veneno, Reventon, Sesotho Elemento, Miura, etc. We also test drove a Lamborghini Huracan. Hope you enjoy!
Museo Lamborghini - Sant'Agata Bolognese, Italy
The Lamborghini Museum is located in Sant'Agata Bolognese, in that tiny triangle between Bologna and Modena, fittingly defined as “Terra dei Motori” (Motor Valley). On this day we would see Museo Lamborghini, Museo Ferrari and do a Ducati factory tour. Topped off with a drive through the hills of Maranello in a Ferrari California Spyder and Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder. What a truly amazing day!

Italian Motor Valley trip 2017
Short movie from my trip to Italy to famous Motor Valley. Visited museum of Ferrari Maranello/Modena, Pagani, Lamborghini, Maserati (showroom) and Umberto Panini collection. Lamborghini's Museum is home to a lot more than the Miura, the cars are works of art and the stuff of Top Gear dreams!

WHAT'S ON DISPLAY
The Museum is divided into two sections. The first is dedicated to the historic models, including, of course, a Miura and Countach, and some more recent models, along with a number of prototypes and concept cars, including the Urus, which gives a pointer the forms of the upcoming Lamborghini Super SUV set to debut in 2018.
The other section is dedicated to theme-based exhibits. When we were there in 2017, there was an exhibition spotlighting the extraordinary life and the great success of Ayrton Senna, documented with photographs by Ercole Colombo and a film on the driver’s life: plenty of the most exciting moments and the final tragic crash coverage proved quite moving. Further on you could see all the race cars driven by the Brazilian champion, from his first kart to the Formula Ford and Formula 3 cars, along with all the Formula One cars.
MUSEUM OPENING TIMES
Open every day:
From April 1 to October 31, from 9:30 am to 7:00 pm.
From November 1 to March 31, from 9:30 am to 6:00 pm.
Entry was 15 euros in 2017.
Guided tours of the Museum are usually available upon request, as a rule during August.
MUSEUM CLOSING DAYS 2018
January 2018: 1 / May 2018: 1 / August 2018: 15 / December 2018: 25
THE MUSEUM IS FULLY ACCESSIBLE
The Museum has no architectural barriers. Visits take place over two floors, and a lift is available for persons with limited mobility.
Here's what they say about it on their website:
MORE THAN A MUSEUM – AN EXPERIENCE
- The beginnings with Ferruccio and his early successes: 350 GT and Miura
- The key models from then to now
- Racing cars, including Formula 1
- The main stages of technological development: 4x4, aluminum, carbon fiber, hybrid
- The Lamborghini jewels: its engines
- The new Lamborghini Urus
And much more besides, to understand the passion and magic that has come together at Sant’Agata Bolognese, in the heart of the Italian Motor Valley.
You can also do a factory tour. We didn't do this, but it's supposed to be worthwhile, if a little expensive, 75 euro including museum entry, book ahead to guarantee your slot.
PRODUCTION LINE TOUR: SEE HOW THEY'RE BUILT
Guided tour of the production lines: an experience among skillful craftsmanship and advanced technology:
- In the lovingly preserved original factory
- Step by step through the assembly of the amazing V12 Aventador
- The leather, customizations and interiors
- The sophisticated chassis and carbon fiber bodywork
- The powerful engine, gearbox, transmission, suspension and brakes
- The finished car, ready for testing
Only by seeing is it possible to understand why these magical Italian sports cars are desired and loved across the whole world.

HOW TO GET THERE
There is a bus you can take from Bologna to the centre of Sant’Agata Bolognese, which is a five minute walk from the museum location. We did this and it's quite straightforward.
The ATB 576 bus (direction Crevalcore) departs from the main bus station in Bologna and takes roughly 50 minutes to get to the “S. Agata Bolognese Chiesa Frati” stop in Sant’Agata Bolognese, which is just five minutes on foot from the museum.

Modena is a city and comune (municipality) on the south side of the Po valley, in the Province of Modena in the Emilia-Romagna region of Italy. An ancient town, it is the seat of an archbishop, but is now best known as the capital of engines, since the factories of the famous Italian sports car makers Ferrari, De Tomaso, Lamborghini, Pagani and Maserati are, or were, located here and all, except Lamborghini, have headquarters in the city or nearby. Lamborghini is headquartered not far away in Sant'Agata Bolognese, in the adjacent Province of Bologna. One of Ferrari's cars, the 360 Modena, was named after the town itself. Also, one of the colors for Ferraris is Modena yellow. The University of Modena, founded in 1175 and expanded by Francesco II d'Este in 1686, has traditional strengths in Economics, Medicine and Law and is the second oldest Atheneum in Italy, sixth in the whole world. Italian officers are trained at the Italian Military Academy, located in Modena, and partly housed in the Baroque Ducal Palace. The Biblioteca Estense houses historical volumes and 3,000 manuscripts. Famous Modenesi include Mary of Modena, the Queen consort of England and Scotland; operatic tenor Luciano Pavarotti (1935--2007) and soprano Mirella Freni, born in Modena itself; Enzo Ferrari (1898--1988) eponymous founder of the Ferrari motor company; and the rock singer Vasco Rossi who was born in Zocca, one of the 47 comuni in the Province of Modena.
