Samurai Japan | Kachiya Festival 2019 | Going Back 1000 Years
????????TOKYO EVENTS VLOGGER????
LEMME ENTERTAIN YOU
???? Going back 1000 years, Fijiwara no Hidesato prayed for victory before a battle at Katori Shrine. His prayer was realized so he offered his bow and arrow to the shrine in honor of the victory. This is still commemorated to this day during the Kachiya Festival. Festivities include a dedication to the kachiya (victory arrow) and a traditional samurai procession tracing a 2-km route through the neighborhood around Kameido Station and finishing at the shrine.
???? The parade features samurai in battle armor, archers, a brass band and other people in period dress. The procession stops at one point for a performance which includes a kendo (wooden sword fighting) demonstration.
???? The marchers are local residents and people from the local business association who are keen to promote Kameido, so all the participants will enthusiastically pose for photos.
???? The parade coincides with the Kameido Tenjin Wisteria Festival, so head here for more food and entertainment after the Kachiya Procession finishes.

Samurai Festival - Ota Dokan Matsuri
Ota Dokan Matsuri is a samurai festival held in mid-October between the second and third weekend in Isehara, Kanagawa Prefecture. Ota Dokan (1436-1486) was a samurai lord in the mid-late 15th Century famous for building the first castle where the Imperial palace now stands. He was played by comedian Chihara Seiji.
Behind Ota Dokan in the parade is Hojo Masako (1156-1225) she married a samurai destined to become the first reigning Shogun, Minamoto no Yoritomo. She's remembered as the Ama-Shogun (Nun Shogun) for her determination to keep her family in power. She was played by comedia Shizu-chan.

Samurai Festival - Taki-no Castle Festival 戦国滝の城まつり
Taki-no Castle Festival celebrates the history of the Tokorozawa area of Saitama focusing on the remnants of a castle from the Sengoku (Warring States) Period (1477-1600).
Taki-no Castle was built in the 15th Century and later taken by the Later Hojo Clan. The festival celebrates the Hojo clan with music, samurai parade, taiko drumming, ninja show, and a samurai battle re-enactment of the Odawara Campaign of Toyotomi Hideyoshi against the Hojo Clan in 1590.
The festival is held on the third Sunday of May in the remnants of Taki-no Castle in Tokorozawa starting from 10.
Wakayama Samurai Festival
Here is a taste of a quirky festival we attended in Wakayama. It celebrates a famous samurai who fought against the unification of Japan and was responsible for Wakayama being the last kingdom to fall in the unification process (I think!)

Kiryu Yagibushi Matsuri 2011
This festival is held every year during the first weekend of August in Kiryu city, Gunma prefecture, Japan. The dance is called Yagibushi and people dance to the rythm of drums (shimedaiko) and the ojichans (old guys) voices. During this event the streets are packed with people, tons of kiosks to play games and buy food and the best part, yagibushi. If you ever are in Kiryu or close to it during the first week of August, make sure you don't miss this event. If not, just enjoy my video (not the very best quality).
