TONS of Costa Rica Travel INFO & VIDEOS at
Hey Everyone! I gotta say, this could be one of our BEST videos to date. We're in Puerto Viejo Costa Rica on the Caribbean side of the country and we're visiting the Jaguar Rescue Center a few minutes from the center of town. We had been wanting to visit the rescue center form some time because we both love the animals, especially the sloths and the monkey's and the margays and the toucans and even the snakes. So, we were like 2 kids in a candy store and we got some GREAT footage. Check it out and I think you'll AGREE. If you're in Puerto Viejo Costa Rica you're not going to want to miss visiting the Jaguar Rescue Center... and why wouldn't you, even your admission price goes to help the animals.

Jaguar Rescue Center in Puerto Viejo Costa Rica
While traveling the world we had the opportunity to visit the Jaguar Rescue Center in Puerto Viejo, Costa Rica. What a fantastic experience and we are glad we put this on our schedule while traveling through Costa Rica. We lived in Costa Rica for one month and visited many different National Parks, &, hiked various jungle areas. In regards to seeing a variety of animals, this was in the top one or two places we had the opportunity to visit. We really got the feeling that the Jaguar Rescue Center did everything in their power to rehabilitate the animals and get them back into the wild. Obviously, there were occasions where that was just not possible, many times because of humans and their treatment of these different animals. It was pretty shocking why some of these animals were being treated. One monkey was chained by the neck for 20 years only being fed rice and beans. The Tucan in the video couldn't even swallow when he got to the rescue center. The sloths both young and old were adorable. They were feeding the young sloths through a syringe. If you are visiting Southern Costa Rica make sure to visit the Jaguar rescue center, you'll be glad you did.

What is the Jaguar Rescue Center?
The Jaguar Rescue Center is a temporary or permanent home for ill, injured and orphaned animals. With a focus on birds, reptiles, amphibians and small primates, the JRC provides veterinary services, round-the-clock care and comfort to animals that would otherwise be unable to survive in the rainforest or the sea of the Caribbean.
Why Jaguar?
The Jaguar is the most hunted endangered animal in the Americas. It’s a symbol of nature that suffers from a great threat of extinction.
In 2007 a baby jaguar was given to Encar and Sandro. Her mother had been murdered because local farmers suspected she had killed two goats. The baby jaguar was dehydrated and very sick. Encar and Sandro did everything they could to save it but in the end, the endangered baby jaguar died. Encar and Sandro decided to name their animal rescue center in honor of her and the Jaguar Rescue Center was born.
The jaguar represents the spirit of the king of the jungle and her memory lives on in each animal they save. The spirit of that original baby jaguar lives on in every animal we rescue and our mission of Help Us Help Them continues in her honor.
The primary goal of the JRC is to rehabilitate animals and reintroduce them back into their native habitats. Monkeys, birds, sloths, snakes and more are brought to the JRC, and treated by professional veterinarians, caregivers and a hard-working team of staff and volunteers. Food is lovingly prepared, medication is administered, and all animals get personal contact with their caregivers. When they are healed and healthy, most animals are reintroduced to their native habitats to live out their lives in the land that is their home.
For some of the friends brought to the JRC, reintroduction isn’t possible due to the nature of their illness or injuries, and these animals find a permanent, loving home at the JRC, cared for by a team of staff and volunteers, living in habitats that mimic their lives outside the JRC.
In addition to the animal-care services, the JRC provides educational services to the residents and visitors of Costa Rica, as well as internship and research opportunities for biologists, veterinarians, and researchers from around the world.

Welcome to PUERTO VIEJO! Costa Rica's Hidden Gem
Puerto Viejo de Talamanca is a bit of an undiscovered beach town gem on the Caribbean coast of Costa Rica.
We spent a day showing you around starting out with our great open air AirBNB in the middle of the jungle just outside of the town.
We then heading into town, walking along Black Beach (Playa Negra), flying our drone while we go. On our way into town we discover in old barge in the water, sunken to create a breakwater.
After walking along the water for awhile, we head into town to get some lunch and find a cute cafe/bookstore called Cafe Rico.
Afterwards we head back to the water where we spot a sunken sailing ship just off the shore.

Puerto Viejo, Costa Rica
Puerto Viejo de Talamanca is a town in southeast Costa Rica, on the Caribbean coast. It’s known for the Salsa Brava surf break and beaches like black-sand Playa Negra. The Jaguar Rescue Center rehabilitates wild cats and other animals. Gandoca-Manzanillo National Wildlife Refuge has rainforest, wetlands and mangroves. To the north, Cahuita National Park protects a large coral reef and has a shipwreck dive site.
Puerto Viejo is the largest tourist destination on Costa Rica's small Caribbean coast. Other nearby communities are Cahuita, Cocles, Punta Uva and Manzanillo . The vibe here is laid-back, Caribbean-style with a great diversity of people living here and visiting here.
Playa Negra, the paradise for surfers.
Known for its world-class waves and breaks, Playa Negra is a surfer's paradise. Famous as the filming location for the cult classic, Endless Summer II, this beach sits along the northwestern region of Guanacaste along the northern Pacific coast. But this small beach community has more to offer than just its surfing breaks. From great hotels, resorts and budget lodges to renowned cafes and local delicacies, Playa Negra has a little something to offer every visitor. Enjoy the laid-back Tico lifestyle here while escaping the hustle of other surf-centric communities along the Pacific Coast. Those staying here will also be just a short drive away from Marino Las Baulas National Park, which is a famous nesting ground for the leatherback turtles.

Took a private tour of a wildlife sanctuary in Costa Rica...so many rescued animals! Made the heart feel good!
Jaguar rescue center and HAKUNA MATATA in Puerto Viejo, Costa Rica
We went from Bocas del Toro, Panama over the boarder to Costa Rica directly to Puerto Viejo. Over there, we rent a bike and drove along the coast side to the Jaguar Rescue Center, which was REALLY awesome! We saw tucans, monkeys, sloths and many other cute animals, that are being rescued and prepared for being released in wildlife again.
Afterwards we drove in the rain further along the coast to Manzanillo. It is a dream beach over there! You’re gonna see what it looks like and how to get there.
We ended our stay in Puerto Viejo in a wonderful little restaurant called “Catch of the day” with - guess what - delicious, fresh fishes (tuna etc.) from the catch of the day.

Puerto Viejo is a beautiful, small town in southeastern Costa Rica. If you are looking for a perfect beach, where you can unwind and relax, sipping on an exotic cocktail and enjoying spicy Caribbean food, Puerto Viejo is definitely the place you should check out.
The average high temperature here is 27-28 C, while the average low is 22-23 C. However, you can expect humid weather at times because you’ll be surrounded by the rainforests, right next to the Carribean sea.
