ABOUT:
This was originally a deserted rock quarry - a sight for sore eyes. Between 1917 and 1918 the quarry was shaped into a complex that included walkways, stone arch bridges, an island and a Japanese pagoda with a roof of palm leaves for $7,000 in 1919. In 1926 Kimi Jingu, opened a tea house which is still in use today. The garden is on the National Register of Historic Places. That’s just a small part of the adventure and beauty you’ll find here!

Top 5 places to visit in San Antonio Texas (Top 5 Attractions, San Antonio )
The San Antonio Japanese Tea Garden (also known as the Sunken Gardens) in the U.S. state of Texas was developed on land donated to the city in 1899 by George Washington Brackenridge, president of the San Antonio Water Works Company.
The ground was first broken around 1840 by German masons, who used the readily accessible limestone to supply the construction market. Many San Antonio buildings, including the Menger Hotel, were built with the stone from this quarry on the Rock Quarry Road.
Japanese Tea Garden San Antonio Texas & Changing Domicile to Texas
Japanese Tea Garden San Antonio Texas & Changing Domicile to Texas // I visited the Japanese Tea Garden in San Antonio Texas, also called a Chinese Tea Garden or Chines Garden and experience some beautiful zen gardens, Japanese waterfall, and the beautiful flowers and trees in the rest of the Japanese garden. If you visit Texas, the Japanese Tea Garden is one of the free things to do in Texas so make sure you stop by and visit and do a little meditation on the rock steps. I'm passing through from San Antonio to Houston to escape some winter weather and then domicile in Texas. I ended up in Houston as well for the RV inspection so I could get the RV registration in Texas.

SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS USA!! Backpacker Mike explores the Japanese Tea Garden's
The Japanese Tea Garden reopened in March 2008, with fanfare that included a serenade of Japanese songs by Tafoyalla Middle School Japanese students, keyboard by Carol Gulley, calligraphy and origami demonstrations, and an enormous Koi-shaped cake. The garden had been closed while the San Antonio Parks and Recreation Department and the San Antonio Parks Foundation completed infrastructure rehabilitation to the facility, to include walkways, piping, filtration, wall repairs, and pond sealing. The restored garden features a lush year-round garden and a floral display with shaded walkways, stone bridges, a 60-foot waterfall and ponds filled with Koi. The project cost $1,587,470 funded from public and private sources including the City of San Antonio, the San Antonio Parks Foundation, and Friends of the Parks.
Members of the Jingu family, which lived and worked in the Garden, in the 1920s, attended the ceremony, along with the descendents of Ray Lambert, the Park Commissioner who conceived of the idea of turning an abandoned rock quarry into a lily pond, also attended.
The Parks Foundation is pursuing its next phase of improvement that will add lighting to the lower garden. The Japanese Tea Garden features areas available for rent, which are ideal for small weddings, a memorial service, as well as an area for large corporate gatherings, not to mention the renovated Jingu House Café. Come visit one of San Antonio’s historical jewels centrally located, just a short distance from downtown.

Rosales Wedding Performed by Rev. Rene Esparza at the Japanese Tea Gardens in San Antonio, Texas
Jose and Patricia Rosales were married by Reverend Rene Esparza on September 12, 2015 at the Japanese Tea Gardens in San Antonio, Texas.
The couple choose Everlasting Elopements' Deluxe Small Wedding package, which included everything from our basic package plus upgraded wedding photography and this professionally edited wedding video.
Jose & Patricia met on a warm evening in May. Jose had taken a few days off work to spend time with his children visiting from California. They saw each other and decided to get to know one another better. They met late one evening to sit and chat for a few minutes. During their visit we were approached by a woman needing a ride. Her story was quite interesting and we wondered if it were true, but Jose's kind heart prevailed and he agreed to help. It was at this moment Patricia would see his gentle and caring spirit. On their way back to Patricia's car the conversation was effortless. For several months they saw each other two or three times a week because they lived 45 minutes away from each other, and he had two jobs so, we were in constant contact through text messages. A year later they moved in together and not long after that he proposed.
