Prague's Famous John Lennon Wall: Is It Over, or Reborn?
Lauren takes us to Prague. For more than 40 years, Prague was under the communist control of Moscow. During that time, the people of Prague used graffiti as a way to express themselves in political protest. In 1980 when John Lennon, a founding member of the Beatles, was killed, young people again turned to graffiti. They wrote on the wall to express their sadness and longing to be free. Even when the government painted over the wall people returned every day to fill the wall with messages. The wall is known as the Lennon Wall. Today, Prague is the capital of a democratic state, but people still use the Lennon Wall as place to write their thoughts.

John Lennon Wall in Prague
Second day in Prague and our very first rainy day in Europe. Starting the day with breakfast at a fancy cafe but our day quickly turned pretty boring with the rain out so ended up at a glow in the dark mini golf. Ended the day with the John Lennon Wall visit where there were still some artists doing some new work on it. A pretty long colourful wall that has an awesome history behind it but it is a bit of a hidden attraction. I would definitely recommend this a visit to anyone that may be going in the future.

First Video of Prague music series:
During the 1980s John Lennon became the symbol for all Czech anti-government protesters, as they scribbled his lyrics and other political slogans on this now world-famous wall.
Prague does not have its name for no reason - in truth,
Prague is a threshold between life on Earth
and Heaven, a threshold much thinner and narrower than in any other places.
The streets of Prague were a fantasia scarcely touched by the twenty-first century—or the twentieth or nineteenth, for that matter. It was a city of alchemists and dreamers. The wind carried the memory of magic, revolution, violins, and the cobbled lanes meandered like creeks.

Lennon Wall, Prague, Czech Republic.
The Lennon Wall is a wall in Prague, Czech Republic. Once a normal wall, since the 1980s it has been filled with John Lennon-inspired graffiti and pieces of lyrics from Beatles' songs.
In 1988, the wall was a source of irritation for the communist regime of Gustáv Husák. Young Czechs would write grievances on the wall and in a report of the time this led to a clash between hundreds of students and security police on the nearby Charles Bridge. The movement these students followed was described ironically as Lennonism and Czech authorities described these people variously as alcoholics, mentally deranged, sociopathic, and agents of Western capitalism.
The wall continuously undergoes change and the original portrait of Lennon is long lost under layers of new paint. Even when the wall was repainted by some authorities, on the second day it was again full of poems and flowers. Today, the wall represents a symbol of global ideals such as love and peace.
The wall is owned by the Knights of Malta, who allowed the graffiti to continue on the wall, and is located at Grand Priory Square, Malá Strana.

THINK Global School students recently traveled to Prague, Czech Republic as part of the TGS Amazing Race; a competition of team-based challenges as they raced across four countries in Europe. Mathematics teacher Ambika Dani filmed these sessions while acting as checkpoint manager.
One of the challenges was to sing The Beatles classic Let It Be in front of the John Lennon Wall. A landmark in Prague, Czech Republic, the wall has become a popular place for fans of Lennon to spray paint song lyrics as an act of remembrance.

John Lennon Wall: Prague
The colorful John Lennon Wall in Prague was initially painted over in the 1980's with graffiti as a tribute to John Lennon and peace after his death. It was also used for political statements against the communist government of Czechoslovakia at the time. The wall is owned not by the city of Prague but by the Sovereign Military Order of Malta who have allowed the graffiti to cover the wall over the years. As many people have done, before me, I signed the wall as a tribute to John Lennon, peace, and freedom.
