Adventure Hawaii - Ka'au Crater Loop
In the island of Oahu, there are three main volcanic craters. The most popular and well known Diamond Head, the stair-master of death Koko Head. and what is known to be the most exalted amongst the three, the hidden Ka'au Crater. One last expedition as we blaze on to the Great Ka'au of Palolo Valley to finally conquer the Three King Craters of Oahu...

Diamond Head Crater Hike / Summit Trail - Top 10 Hikes (Honolulu, Hawaii)
We decided to hike up Diamond Head Crater! This is a very touristy hike and the hike isn't very far. You get great panoramic views of Honolulu and the surrounding area. We managed to park for free. While there are lotso f better hikes on the islands, I still recommend it!

Diamond Head (Le'ahi) Summit Trail is a 2.9 kilometer heavily trafficked out and back trail located near Honolulu, Oahu, Hawaii that features beautiful wild flowers and is rated as moderate. The trail is primarily used for hiking and nature trips and is accessible year-round.
The Diamond Head Summit trail hike is likely the most popular hike in Oahu, and for good reason. While fairly steep, this easy hike starts from the middle of the Diamond Head volcanic crater and climbs about 500 feet up the side to the top of the rim where panoramic views await. Diamond Head State Monument encompasses over 475 acres, including the interior and outer slopes of the crater.
The Diamond Head crater is more than 3,500 feet in diameter and is part of the Hawaiian volcano chain from more than a half million years ago (don't worry, it has been dormant for at least 150,000 years now). The crater is also called Le'ahi, which means brow of the tuna in Hawaiian. It got the name Diamond Head almost 200 years ago when British sailors believed there were diamonds in the side of the crater. Although none were found, the name stuck.
The trail was built in 1908 as part of the Oahu coastal defense system. The World War II bunkers on top now support antennas used by the government.
The trail starts on a paved path before climbing several steep switchbacks leading to the first set of steep stairs. After the stairs you will climb through a tunnel and then climb up another set of stairs before reaching the bunkers at the top of the rim. Once on top you can climb up to the top of the bunkers for 360-degree views of the island and Pacific Ocean, with Waikiki not too far away.
The last entrance to hike the trail is at 4:30 pm. The gates are locked at 6:00 pm daily and all visitors must be out of the park by this time.

HAIKU STAIRS | FULL HIKE [LEGAL WAY] - HAWAII 2019
On this day (August 2019), I hiked / explored Haiku Stairs famously called Stairway to Heaven in Oahu, Hawaii. My journey began around 6am and I finished more or less at 12pm. This is a very intense hike and should be taken seriously, since individuals have been injured in the past. This challenging path through the Moanalua Valley Trail (Middle Ridge) to “Stairway to Heaven. This mountain is one of the most popular of Oahu’s forbidden hiking trails. The stairway was built for the U.S. Coast Guard to allow access to the LOAN radio antenna on the top of the mountain, however, the United States brought the first global-range radio navigation system called the OMEGA Station operations which led to the termination of the stair maintains. Thereafter, Hawaii closed down the stairway to the public in 1987, since the stairs were becoming terribly worn and dangerous. That being said, if you decide to take the challenge, go at your own risk and please, be safe.

Diamond Head Trail Hike - Oahu, Hawaii State
Diamond head hike oahu hawaii. The iconic silhouette of Diamond Head State Monument sits along the Honolulu skyline just beyond Waikiki. This 760-foot tuff crater is one of Hawaii's most famous landmarks. Known as Leahi (brow of the tuna) in Hawaiian, the crater was named Diamond Head.
By 19th century British sailors who thought they discovered diamonds on the crater's slopes. These diamonds were actually shiny calcite crystals that had no value.
Formed more than 100,000 years ago, the crater was used as a strategic military lookout beginning in the early 1900's and was named a National Natural Landmark in 1968. Today, Diamond Head is a popular hiking destination with panoramic views of Waikiki and Oahu's south shore.

Hawaii hike Mount Olympus in Manoa Valley Honolulu Hawaii
Located in Manoa Valley, O`ahu, Honolulu, Hawai`i, this hike is not for beginners. It's not as treacherous as Ka'au Crater but is on par with some of the more challenging hikes out there. Be sure to bring along some friends and plan on spending about 4 hours completing it.
Hiking Kaena Point: The Edge of Oahu
I recently went hiking at Kaena Point for a group hike and I highly recommend it if you have the time. It’s a great hike on the northwest tip of Oahu with great views of the mountains and the ocean. It’s also a great place to see the occasional monk seal. I recommend bringing plenty of water since there is no shade. The trip was roughly 6 miles total, which took us about two hours and thirty minutes, including time to take pictures at the beach. When you get out there, take your time and enjoy the view. Beautiful hike!

Ehukai Pillbox Hike 4K Drone Audio Guide - Best Hikes in Oahu Hawaii
700 feet above the world-famous Bonzai Pipeline waves, you'll witness the most beautiful sunsets Oahu has to offer! This brisk trek up the Paumalu Range is 45 minutes from Honolulu without traffic. Park at Sunset Beach Elementary school and look for the orange trailhead sign. The half-mile to the top is covered by shade trees and filled with unique foliage. Kids and dogs can definitely do this hike , as there are rope hand rails and solid steps; but, it DEFINITELY gets muddy after ANY rain. Plan accordingly! The first pillbox is just 30 minutes into the hike and offers spectacular views of the Pacific. Find your way five minutes north to the second pillbox for the truly awesome sunset view. Many people have trouble finding this one; but look for some marked trees and a single parking sign covered in stickers to know you're on the right track. Continue on the surrounding trails for a 2-mile loop and more unique plants you truly can't find anywhere else!

Hiking Diamond Head | Oahu, Hawaii
This is our first time hiking a volcano and it was awesome! Fun hike, great view, and so easy to get to on public transportation from Waikiki and Honolulu.
Diamond Head towers over Waikiki on the south side of Oahu. It's only a 6-minute drive from Waikiki Beach hotels, or 20 minutes from downtown Honolulu where we were staying. If you drive in, get there early because there is not much parking available. The parking lot usually fills up by 7am.
We suggest taking the bus and walking up. You can catch bus 2 from downtown or Waikiki and get off at the base of the mountain at Kapiʻolani Community College. The walk up to the ticket booth is only about 15-20 minutes, with nice views along the way.

Wai'oma'o Stream - Flash Flood Condtions - Ka'au Crater
As we headed up the 3rd waterfall at Ka'au Crater to the ridge, it began to drizzle, then it rained harder and harder. As we got back down into the valley, beginnings of flash flood conditions, thankfully we were able to cross it safely. This was our second stream crossing.
