Check out this entertaining and insightful brew bro's beer review from the Karl Strauss Brewing Company. The Award Winning Red Trolley Ale.
Red Trolley Ale sets the standard for Irish Red Ales. Each batch of this multi award-winning beer is brewed with a half-ton of caramelized malts for a deep copper color and toffee flavor. After adding the perfect mix of hops for balance, the brew is warm-fermented to bring out hints of raisins and currants. It’s time to take this Trolley for a ride.

Karl Strauss Brewing Company - Celebrating the Godfather of Beer on his would-be 100th birthday
In 1989, Karl Strauss shared a passion for beer that changed brewing in San Diego. He believed that behind every beer worth drinking was an inspiration and behind every pint was a story waiting to be told. Karl spent his life making beer, but more importantly, Karl spent his life telling stories. His beers were his stories and through his generous wisdom, he taught us how to brew our own. Karl inspired a new generation of brewers, and today San Diego is America's finest city for craft beer.
In honor of the 100th Anniversary of his birth, join us in raising a pint to our namesake. Cheers to good beer and a life well lived. Cheers to Karl, San Diego's Godfather of beer.
If this isn't the best beer you ever tasted, my name isn't Karl Strauss.
No matter where I go, people recognize me by my accent. Whenever I open my mouth, I'm in trouble.
Just surprisingly funny in many, many, different ways.
Karl was actually a very German congenial, charismatic gentleman.
In his lifetime Karl Strauss brewed more than seven billion beers.
I do remember his very distinct voice, beckoning me to drink.
He'd always say the proof is in the glass.
We brewed top notch beer. I mean I'm convinced of that.
He was always about sharing, sharing the beer.
You'll agree it's the best beer you've ever tasted or my name isn't Karl Strauss.
We're coming up this October on the one hundredth anniversary of Karl's birth.
I was born in the middle of a brewery and most of my life I've lived in the brewery.
You know, you think about a young man growing up in Linden, Germany in Feldschlosschen Brewery, where his father was the president. He believed in old world principles of hard work and ethical behavior.
And then from there I went to college in Munich and studied brewing.
And it was the Kramer family that sponsored Karl and his sister to get out of Germany back in 1939, and if you know your history 1939 was a great time to get out of Germany. After the Holocaust, we were the closest relatives that Karl had.
I was visiting friends of the family in Milwaukee on my way to San Francisco when I was offered a job by Pabst.
He started in the cellars and he worked his way up, and became over time the vice president in charge of all production. In the last 25 years of which he was responsible for every drop of beer that Pabst Brewing Company made, running five major breweries across the United States, with peak production at more than 17 million barrels of beer a year.
As it turned out I spent 44 years with Pabst. I felt quite at home.
And he retired in the 80's and then began a second career consulting on this microbrewery revolution that was starting up, and he helped a lot of great breweries get off the ground, and start making great craft beer.
He went back to his roots, and his focus was great beer here in America, and I think that's part of Karl's legacy. Across America, people drink better beer because Karl Strauss lived.
San Diego had nothing like it. That's why building a brewery here had to be considered a big gamble. But a couple of guys just out of school have turned the idea into a real success.
I think they were young, and they were eager. Karl had a great pedigree.
So when they convinced Chris' cousin Karl, a long time brew master to help out.
The first thing was will you help me with the beer? And I said, Sure. Then the next thing he asked me could they use my name? Then could they put my picture on the labels?
He is so accessible and passionate about his craft, and about sharing great beer, and how beer could elevate your life.
Karl Strauss was very important at setting a tone. Some of the craft breweries didn't understand initially, how important it was to be consistent.
Karl taught us to be able to take the quality assurance programs in big breweries and bring them down to a craft brewing level.
And then all the brewers that we trained here, that have gone off to start other breweries, everyone's focused on quality.
The highest compliment you can pay any brewer is to say that their beer is consistent and clean and you know of high quality.
Karl Strauss was literally one of the three most famous brewers in the world.
You still seem to have a passion for this.
Oh yeah, that's the only thing I know how to do, and I like to do it.
He is the only person ever to have won the Master Brewer's Association's three highest honors. He was someone who set the standard, and because of that, he was acknowledged as the godfather of beer. Karl's world of doing things right, of using science to enable you in the art of brewing we are taking that philosophy of the next generation of brewers.
And when he passed, people came out from all these different brewing companies, big brewers, to say that Karl Strauss was the best brewer they had ever known.

Karl was very active in the brewing community throughout his life. He was president of the Master Brewers Association of the Americas (1961-1963) and founder and director of the Museum of Beer and Brewing in Milwaukee. He is the only person to have received the MBAA Award of Merit (1981), Award of Honor (1992), and the Distinguished Life Service Award (2003). Karl also believed it was important to pass on the techniques and traditions of his craft to young brewers. We created the Karl M. Strauss Brewers Education Fund in honor of his work.
Karl had a contagious enthusiasm that inspired everyone around him. He was driven by a belief that everyone should enjoy life, preferably with good friends and good beer. Over the course of his 70 plus years as a brewer, he brewed more than seven billion servings of beer, enough for everyone on the planet to have a Karl Strauss Beer.
Mission accomplished, Karl. Cheers.
Karl M Strauss“My life's work has been brewing and if I had to do it over again, I would pursue the same path, which is to say I have no regrets.”

We are chatting with Daniel Smith on today’s podcast! Daniel recently joined the San Francisco Symphony as associate principal bass after spending two seasons in the San Diego Symphony double bass section.
About Daniel Smith:
A native to Southern California, bassist Daniel Smith was recently appointed Associate Principal Bass of the San Francisco Symphony after performing for two seasons with the San Diego Symphony. Mr. Smith graduated from Rice University’s Shepherd School of Music in 2013 under the tutelage of Timothy Pitts. After four years of pursuing music, as well as a biochemistry minor, Mr. Smith travelled to Bali, Indonesia, where he spent four months volunteering and teaching music at an orphanage known as Bali Life. Two months following his return home, Mr. Smith was appointed Principal Bass of the Santa Barbara Symphony in February of 2014.
As an active freelancer, Mr. Smith has performed with ensembles such as the New World Symphony, Pacific Symphony, Hawaii Symphony, California Chamber Orchestra and the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra. His festival appearances include the Music Academy of the West, Idyllwild Festival Orchestra and Pacific Music Festival in Hokkaido, Japan.

GreenHouse Energy, Governor Schwarzenegger Join in Driving the Future of Fueling in California
California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger joined San Diego-based GreenHouse on the steps of the State Capitol on June 4, as E-Fuel Corp. unveiled the final production model of the revolutionary E-Fuel MicroFueler, a portable micro-refinery fuel system for consumer use. The State of Californias Department of General Services is also exploring a pilot program to test the MicroFueler with its flex-fuel vehicles.
GreenHouse Energy, a division of GreenHouse, will be the exclusive distributor of the E-Fuel MicroFueler in Southern California and Arizona.
The E-Fuel distribution system is a model for sustainability. The organic fuel is produced using carbohydrate waste products found abundantly in brewery waste, algae and cellulose (no corn or food-based products). Using state-of-the-art semiconductor technology, the appliance-sized units are pump-stations and ethanol distillers that can be installed at residences by the GreenHouse distribution team.
Each MicroFueler requires three kilowatts of electricity to produce a gallon of Efuel100, in turn one gallon of Efuel100 will generate up to 23 kilowatts of power. The ethanol generated will play an affordable and integral part in reducing California greenhouse gas emissions.
GreenHouse has partnered with notable companies including Karl Strauss, Gordon Biersch and Sunny Delight, to convert 29,000 tons of liquid waste using the Efuel 100 Microfueler process.
Top 10 Reasons San Diego is the BEST Beer City in the World
Im leaving San Diego! :::cries::: But before I go I had to say thank you to my home of the last 10 years and the best beer education I ever could have received.
Disclaimer: I took some geographical liberties here. A good chunk of what we generally consider San Diego beer is brewed outside of the City limits in other parts of San Diego County, but Top 10 reasons why San Diego is the best beer county in the world just isn't as fun of a video title. Please forgive me.
You can check out a map of San Diego breweries and on the San Diego Brewers Guild website here:
2012 Big Bay Boom Bust San Diego Fireworks Show Fail
The 2012 Big Bay Boom Firework Show in San Diego was a Big Bay Bummer. A technical problem caused ALL of the fireworks to go off within 30 seconds. The original Big Bay Boom was set to last 15-20 minutes.
People have given names for this 4th of July, such as: The Big Bay Bust, The Big Bay Bummer, The 30 second Firework Show, The 10 second Firework Show, Firework Fail, Premature Initiation of the Firework Show, San Diego Fireworks Fail
The Port of San Diego announced that Garden State Fireworks, the company in charge of the show's pyrotechnics, said they would be willing to provide a complimentary show before next year over Glorietta Bay.
The cost of the 2012 Big Bag Boom was an estimated $300,000, that's about $10,000 per second.
Here is a 30 second video I recorded of The Big Bay Boom 2012.
Thanks Chris and Karl Strauss Brewing for the party! Love the Windansea Wheat.
Story:
I was at a party for Karl Strauss Brewing, AMAZING VIEW of the Bay. So at the party we had just turned off the lights and were listening to the radio station 105.7 the walrus which does a soundtrack to the firework show. They had just announced that the show was 5 mins. away. I had been adjusting my camera, getting all set up to record the entire show, when all of a sudden ALL THE FIREWOKRS WENT OFF. I quickly adjusted my camera and started recording. You can hear in the video if you listen closely It looks like a finale. Everyone thought it was just an awesome intro for the Big Bay Boom Firework show, which is really amazing each year I watch. There are 4 locations, Shelter Island (shown on the right), Harbor Island (shown on the left), North Embarcadero (Shown in the center) and South Embarcadero (not really seen but behind Shelter Islands Show), and are all synced to go off at the same time with the same shows. With the 20 min. Firework Show going up in a blaze 5 mins early and only lasting 30 seconds, a lot of people became very upset over what happened. I found it funny how after the Technical Problem the radio station 105.7 still continued with the countdown and then still played the entire Firework soundtrack. After the 20 mins of music and no fireworks they ended up coming back saying Woops, sorry, that was the show.
Thanks to everyone who has viewed this. This is actually my 1st Youtube video ever and I have had over 1 MILLION VIEWS in less than 24 hours.

This is Santee California
Santee is part of the San Diego metropolitan area and conveniently located between the ocean and the Cuyamaca Mountains. With a growing base of new homes, shopping, restaurants, and businesses, Santee is a perfect location for first time home buyers and families looking to upgrade.
Incorporated officially in 1980, Santee has a long history dating back to the late 1800's.
Bordered by Sycamore Canyon to the north and Cowles Mountain to the west, Santee sits at the intersection of State Route 52 and 67.
The San Diego River tuns right through the middle of Santee from east to west and the city has developed many walking trails, parks, and even a golf course along the river's waterway.
San Diego Christian College, a 4-year college calls Santee home, As do 2 high schools and 9 grade schools.
Craft breweries are also beginning to move into the area. BNS, Growndswell, and Pacific Islander Beer Company are already established, and Karl Strauss is expected to make Santee its headquarters in the future.
The Town Center Community Park lies just north of the San Diego River next to Cuyamaca Street. It includes a 20 acre Sportsplex USA that features baseball, softball, batting cages, and indoor soccer fields.
