Japan Vlog #003 - Day 3 in Kyoto (Hiking day from Kibune to Kurama)
Wake up super early to take the first train to Kibune. The train will takes you through the forest of maple trees, so if you come at autumn season, you are able to enjoy the beauty of maple trees.
After we reach Kibune-guchi station, we plan to take bus to Kifune Shrine. But its too bad that bus start operating at 9:10am, & we reach there about 7:30am. Walk from Kibune-guchi station to Kifune Shrine. Explore the beauty of the mountain & river side walk. This is definitely the best experience of my whole Japan trip.
Places I visit:
1. Kifune Shrine
Experience water paper fortune
** Kibune : If you come at summer season, don't forget to try Nagashi Somen (serving of thin white noodles via flowing cold water, slide down from bamboo pipe) at Hirobun restaurant.
2. Kurama Temple
Hike up from Kibune to Kurama Temple
3. Kurama Onsen
¥1000 per adult
Good relax place after hiking
Food:
Yoshuji (vegetarian restaurant)

Lunch on the Kibune River in Kyoto
Manami and Shinji take us to the Kibune River in Kyoto for lunch. Not only was it very beautiful... it was a nice break from the heat!
Kyoto Travel: Nature walk and visiting Kifune Jinja Shrine (Kibune, Japan) [4K] 貴船神社
You don't have to travel far from Kyoto to find yourself surrounded by nature. Just in the nearby mountains at the edge of the city, there are plenty of possibilities to go for a walk or a proper hike. In addition to enjoying the beauty of green forest-covered mountains and rushing, crystal clear streams in the narrow valleys between them, there are also many temples worth to visit. While some of them might be hidden in the deep forest and require a bit of a climb to get there, there are also more accessible ones, with small towns developed around them. Kibune is one of such gems. It is located on the northern side of Kyoto and can be easily reached by a small idyllic train. The train journey starts from Demachiyanagi Station and after half an hour of enjoying the passing by scenery of peaceful Kyoto and later forests, you will reach Kibuneguchi Station. From there it is a six minutes bus ride or a half an hour walk along a tunnel made of trees, with a mountain stream on one side. Needless to say, that my recommendation is the walk although you will have to share the road with cars.
Even though I would say that the main attraction of Kibune is the natural beauty of the area itself, the most visited place is probably Kifune Jinja. It is a Shinto shrine dedicated to the God of water and rain. The place is well known for its fortune-telling (omikuji) on a special paper which reveals its text only when immersed in water. In addition to visiting the shrine and enjoying the nature, during the summer time it is possible to have a meal on the platforms (kawadoko) build above the river just one meter from the water level, which is said to help escape the summer heat. It was late spring when we visited Kibune but still a bit too early for eating outside in such places. The weather was very nice, not hot as during the summer at all, with the trees still having very rich green foliage not burnt by the sun. It is hard to think any better power spot to relax and recharge oneself!

貴船神社と貴船川・京都 Kifune Shrine and Kifune river Kyoto. Sense of Japan

North of Kyoto, Kibune is a gorgeously traditional Japanese mountain village nestled in a valley next to Kibune River.
The village is best known for Kibune shrine which according to legend was located at the place where a goddess landed after sailing up the river in her yellow boat. The shrine is known for its water and you can even buy special omikuji which are blank until soaking them in the temple’s water reveals your fortune.
Kibune is also a great place to try Kawadoko during the summer. The local restaurants build decks hovering inches over the surface of the river where diners can eat and cool down during the very hot Kyoto summers.
You can also try Nagashi Somen which is where noodles are slid down long bamboo chutes with flowing water to the diners waiting to catch them as they pass – sounds ridiculous but it’s seriously great fun!

BAMBOO NOODLE SLIDE & SAMURAI Food in Kyoto Japan
If you're looking for a fun place to eat, go to Hirobun. It's in a beautiful and peaceful area where the noodles flow in a long bamboo stick with clear and cold running water through it. But you have to be fast and on your guard for your noodles because they slide by pretty quick!
Then tried out some cool Samurai food that was once eaten by actual Samurai's. For Samurai's to stay healthy and fit they ate a lot of vegetables, and I thought it was pretty good, although I don't really eat veggies. And to end my fun food day, I went to grab some Okonomu-Yaki. I have to say Manmaru No Tsuki served up some amazing foods here.

Hiking from Kibune to Kurama【 Kyoto, Japan 】
Instead of taking the usual route from Kurama to Kibune, we decided to go the other way around following the suggestion of Jason C on tripadvisor.com :
We reached Kibuneguchi around 8:40am. We were initially planning to walk up to Kibune Shrine but decided to take the bus instead. It turned out to be a good decision because as suggested - save energy for the hike.
The paper fortune at Kifune Shrine is in Japanese but you can connect to the Shrine’s wifi and scan the QR code of the paper fortune to get the translation.
If you're not keen in exploring the entire Kifune Shrine, you can start the hike to Mt. Kurama after visiting the main shrine/getting your fortune telling.
Too bad, we missed the restaurant platforms by the river. But nevertheless, the restaurant serve quite delicious meals. We had our meal at Torijaya before starting the hike to Mt. Kurama.

????????Japan travel ???????? good tourist spots ✈️ Kyoto Kibune kawadoko
Check it out!!
RinaJapanTV[English ver.]
I’m going to show you a great way to spend cool summer in Japan.
In Kibune, Kyoto’s sightseeing spot, there are places called “Kawadoko”, where the floor is placed over a river. This is such a pleasant experience to enjoy your drinks and food there in hot summer. Sashimi, Tempura and Somen are great food to have in Japanese summer.
Besides Kibune, you can find Kawadoko at Kamogawa river as well, but I recommend Kibune. You can feel the natural coolness in this area. During the summer season, some restaurants might be fully reserved, so it’s better to make a reservation in advance. Just search for “kyoto kawadoko” online. You’ll find many restaurants.
This time, I went to Ugenta, a restaurant with a long history.
From Osaka Namba area, take a subway to Yodoyabashi station. Then, transfer to Keihan line to Demachiyanagi station. It takes about 45 mins.
Once you get to Demachiyanagi station, transfer to Eizan electric railway. Enjoy the ride with a nice scenery for about 30 mins, then you’ll arrive at Kibuneguchi station.
To purchase train tickets in Japan, first insert money into a machine, then press a button of the ticket charge you need to pay. For checking this charge, there is a rail map on the wall, so you can see how much you need to pay to get to your destination.
I often see people looking for this charge button without inserting money, so remember to put money first.
If you have a reservation at a restaurant, the restaurant staff will pick you up by bus.
Once you arrive there, it’s time to eat! While listening to the sound of river and feeling the cool air breeze, food will taste just amazing.
This time I visited Kifune shrine after the meal.
Kihune shrine is known for God of Enmusubi -matchmaking and marriage. By the way, the area name is called Kibune but this shrine is Kihune.
The reason why the sound is different is because this God is a water god, so people try to call it without making a plosive sound, since water should be clean and pure.
The stone steps along with lanterns are one of the most beautiful sceneries in Japan.
Once you reach the end of the stone steps, wash your hands and prey.
In spring and summer, the contrast of trees’ green color and lanterns’ red color are beautiful. In fall, you can enjoy colorful leaves, and in winter snow scenery.
When you visit Japan, please enjoy this great atmosphere of Kawadoko and Kihune shrine.
