A brief stroll around Konchi-in Temple, Nanzen-Ji, Kyoto, Japan.
Entrance fee is 400 Yen - so very reasonable!
Konchi-in Temple is a lot quieter than the other temples at Nazen-ji, as its located just outside of the main complex (so can be overlooked).
A helpful diagram of the zen garden is located just on the left of the temple entrance. Inside the grounds you can find a beautiful pond containing both Koi and Turtles.

Kōtō-in (高桐院) is a sub-temple of Daitoku-ji, Kyoto, Japan. It was founded by Hosokawa Tadaoki. There is a teahouse, the Shōkō-ken, and the gardens are celebrated for their momiji.[1] A pair of Southern Song monochrome hanging scrolls with landscape have been designated a National Treasure. Many other works are aired annually in October.
Nanzenin temple and gardens, Kyoto, Japan travel video
Nanzen-Ji in Kyoto, Japan is a vast complex with numerous subtemples, gardens and shrines sprawling up the hillside, including another pebble garden, hiking trails, waterfalls and a mountain glen.
Nanzen-ji was bestowed the title of “First Temple of the Land” and is considered by many to be the most famous and important Zen Temple in the world. It's designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Nanzenin is a smaller sub-temple behind the main Nanzen-ji, and it's one of the oldest and yet one of the least well-known sub temples, perhaps because it's slightly hidden away. It started out as a retirement villa for the Emperor Kameyama.
Perhaps the main feature of Nanzenin is the small pond and quiet moss garden surrounded by Momiji trees and azaleas. And the pond has several tiny islets including one that shaped like the character for heart.
The pond garden was built in the strolling style representing the late Kamakura period and retains an image of beautiful scenery surrounded by deep forest with an exceptional atmosphere of peace and tranquility. It was designated a national historic and scenic site in 1923.
It's a very small garden that you could walk around in five minutes and exit but it's so pretty that it's certainly worth stopping and standing and enjoying each of the views from its own particular angle, which of course is the way these gardens are designed. They are strolling gardens, so the idea is to walk along with your eyes open and stop here and there, look this way, look that way, and enjoy all the different views as they unfold.

[4K] 京都の庭園 京都の美 The Gardens of Kyoto [4K] The Beauty of Kyoto Japan

SHISEN-DO [4K] The Garden of Kyoto Japan
夏の詩仙堂です。
Shisen-dō (詩仙堂)Jozan-ji Temple is a Buddhist temple of the Sōtō Zen sect in Sakyō-ku, Kyoto, Japan. It is registered as a historic site of Japan. It stands on the grounds of its founder, the Edo period intellectual Ishikawa Jōzan (1583–1672), who established the temple in 1641.
A room in the main temple displays portraits of thirty-six Chinese poets. The selection of the poets was based on the opinion of Hayashi Razan. The portraits were executed by Kanō Tan'yū. This and some other parts of the building date to the time of Ishikawa Jōzan.
The temple's gardens are considered masterworks of Japanese gardens.[1] One of them includes a device called a sōzu, a type of shishi-odoshi designed to scare away wild animals such as deer by making a loud noise. Water trickles into a bamboo tube, and when it reaches a certain level, it upsets the balance of the tube. The tube tips over on a pivot, discharging the water, and turns upright, striking a rock and emitting a loud clapping noise.
