Uplifting Tour at Laeiszhalle event hall in Hamburg, Germany
Laeiszhalle is a famous event and concert hall in Hamburg and home of Hamburger Symphoniker. Built as a baroque revival architecture in 1908, this building has three elevators from 1908 in it.
The three elevators have been delivered by Flohr. It includes two wooden passenger elevators and a really big freight elevator that was originally delivered with a manual control crank. When delivered, all three elevators used to be locked off with a typical Flohr key.
The elevator in the great hall has been heavily modernized in 1981 and turned into a hydraulic. Also the floorbuttons and the door and callfixture locks have been repalaced (door has been equipped with a handle outside). From that moment onwards, this elevator was public accessible and not restricted anymore. The maximum capacity has been raised a lot since then, the elevator can now carry 750 kg. The call locks has been replaced with lightswitch-like pushbuttons placed on the original call station panel from 1908 which looks really strange.
The second elevator, a passenger elevator in the backstage area is still very original. It is still locked off (door and callfixture) and the controllers still move the elevator single-speed traction. However, the motor unit has been replaced by Loher. The floorbuttons are original as well. This is the most amazing and most original elevator here. Unlike the now public elevator, this one has a double set of sliding inner doors rather than a single one.
The freight elevator is a really big one and has been VERY heavily modernized. It originally was manually controlled but that's changed now. It now has variable frequency and automatic computer control and the cab has been equipped with present day generic Schäfer floorbuttons. This elevator has been modernized by Hütter in 2010. Sadly the old shaft doors are gone too. This elevator still requires a key but it is a typical cylinder lock being used here. The old Flohr locks are gone. According to a member of staff here, this elevator never had inner doors. That was rare in the 1900's and probably limited on freight lifts only. The cab originally has a back door leading into a storage room but this door has been jammed and the shaft door is removed.
