Situated in the extreme north of Finland, Lake Inari, otherwise known as, Inarinjaervi, is a captivating place. Between June and October the lake is navigable by local water busses and during the rest of the year it is covered by ice. Measuring around fourteen hundred square kilometres the extensive Lake Inari is the third largest lake in Finland. Despite the remoteness of this region it is believed that the surroundings of Lake Inari were inhabited more than two thousand years ago by the Sami people. In the past the Sami populated vast areas of northern Europe but in recent centuries they were more and more repressed. Since then, and still inhabiting their original settlement areas, the Sami have become a minority. However, Lake Inari has retained its cultural importance right up to the present day. Wolves, elks and brown bears roam the remote surroundings of Lake Inari. They usually live some distance away from human settlements and compared with other countries in Scandinavia these animals are seen only rarely in Finland. Lake Inari is one of Finland's most idyllic regions. Its tranquil atmosphere and remoteness highlight the remarkable character of this wonderful area.

Inari ( a small village just besides Lake Inari, a huge lake with more than 3000 islands about 100 km long and 60 wide. This unique lake is the only one in the world North of the Arctic Circle that melts during the summer months, allowing for great fishing and sailing.
During the winter season the lake is also one of the best places is the world where to observe the Northern Lights, and while I did see them when I was last here in 2008 I was not as lucky this year. I did get the chance to visit the SIIDA museum, perhaps my favorite in the world which I highly recommend you visit if in the area. In fact I think this is the only museum in the world I have voluntarily visited twice- that actually says a lot!
I then made my way south towards a husky farm, but because I was in the area late in the season I was not able to join a husky tour, something I still have to do. I learned about reindeer and next went to Saariselka, a very popular skiing town just a few minutes away (you can read about my visit here There I visited the Angry Birds Theme Park which will delight kids and prepared for the fun I was to enjoy the following day.

Finland (Lapland), Inari Village, Snowshoeing! Best place to visit in 2020. Hotel Inari!

First and foremost wish you all a very very very very Happy New Decade! Happy 2020!!
To introduce myself, I am Prachi Bobhate, a solo world traveler and discoverer. And since this is my first video on board I chose one of the best moments of my life. A solo trip to the Finish Lapland in a small place called Inari Village near Ivalo.
How to reach: Since I reside in Denmark, I took a flight from Copenhagen to Helsinki and Helsinki to Ivalo. After reaching Ivalo airport I was welcomed by a staff of “Hotel Inari” and we headed to Inari by bus. The Journey was about 1 hr 30 minutes long which turned out to be the most beautiful moments of my life. We luckily witnessed incredible northern lights on our way. Please stay tune for my second video about northern lights sightings :)
If you wish to reach Hotel Inari. Please chose your destination airport as Ivalo and then book a pick up from hotel (you can book online, on mail or call) and they will bring you safely to your destination. The hotel is also lovely to stay and to enjoy different snow activities. Their website:
I had a lovely stay of 2 nights and 3 days there and it was worth every penny.
Snowshoeing: Extraordinary experience in the heart of snow village (-24 degree Celsius), that gives you a feel of being alone on some different white planet. Using snowshoes to walk your way through snow forest and spotting reindeers is an experience beyond words. The activity is under guidance of trained tour guides and thus a must try. I would be uploading a new video related to the second activity with huskies, so please hit the bell icon for notifications. The best way to book the activities is through their website while booking your stay. And even if you choose to stay somewhere else, you can still book the activities separately through their website.
Best time to visit: I visited in the month of January and witnessed Northern Lights. I believe the best months for the Northern Light visit are January-February. And if you would like to enjoy the mid-night sun then the best months are May-July.
Cost: Cost varies from season to season and the packages chosen. So, the best way to get a good deal is to book the air tickets in advance, and also the hotel bookings through sites like MakeMyTrip/Booking.com (in advance) and then the activities separate from the website. You can always call the hotel to bargain the charges for the activities and if you are lucky they would surely consider. I received some discount on calling them.
So, if you are planning your dream vacation then Inari, Finland would certainly be high on my recommendation list. So, go ahead and plan your vacation either solo or with your loved ones!

Inari, Finland Has Crazy Northern Lights
This time lapse was shot mostly in October 2015 during a few great periods of particularly active aurora borealis. All locations are around Inari in Lapland, Finland.
In real life the auroras are usually a little less bright and vivid, and they move a lot slower than this. Nevertheless, the sight of them is truly amazing and not something you can easily get bored of! Inari is far enough north that you can see northern lights nearly every night. Provided it isn't too cloudy, of course.
I shot everything with a Nikon D610 + Samyang 14mm 2.8, and edited in Lightroom and DaVinci Resolve.
