Road Trip & Things to do in Lapland, Finland
In search for the best winter spots Kristin & I went on a road trip through Lapland in Finland and checked out all the things to do in Lapland and it was magical!
More info:
I know it took a while to finish editing this video as I had to struggle with the 4k video data I got from my new toy: the drone. I'm now able to shoot lovely aerial footage to give you an even broader picture of the destination.
Our trip to finnish Lapland started in Rovaniemi with the visit of the Santa Claus village where we said hi to Santa himself and had some fun tubing and drinking at the ice bar in Snowman World.
Snowmobiling was a great way to start our second day & I would say it's one of the must dos in Lapland for sure!
Next stop was the area of Ylläs where we spent most of our time: ice sculpturing, snowshoeing, skiing, dog sledding, a reindeer safari, sauna and northern light sightings made this trip to once in a lifetime winter experience!

Things to do in Inari, Finland - Discover Lapland in Finland
Have you downloaded my Free Guide to Affordable World Travel?
Inari ( a small village just besides Lake Inari, a huge lake with more than 3000 islands about 100 km long and 60 wide. This unique lake is the only one in the world North of the Arctic Circle that melts during the summer months, allowing for great fishing and sailing.
During the winter season the lake is also one of the best places is the world where to observe the Northern Lights, and while I did see them when I was last here in 2008 I was not as lucky this year. I did get the chance to visit the SIIDA museum, perhaps my favorite in the world which I highly recommend you visit if in the area. In fact I think this is the only museum in the world I have voluntarily visited twice- that actually says a lot!
I then made my way south towards a husky farm, but because I was in the area late in the season I was not able to join a husky tour, something I still have to do. I learned about reindeer and next went to Saariselka, a very popular skiing town just a few minutes away (you can read about my visit here There I visited the Angry Birds Theme Park which will delight kids and prepared for the fun I was to enjoy the following day.
Feel free to ask any question, I'll be happy to answer them all!

10 Reasons Why You Should Visit Finland
People may not include Finland on their bucket list, but they really should.
This country has so much to offer beyond the usual tourist spots.
Finland air is one of the cleanest in the world and landscapes are second to none.
Finland are a country of thousands of lakes and forests – which are never far away from wherever you are.
Wish to pay a visit to Santa, admire the Northern Lights or experience the peace of the countryside & cottage life?
Here are just a few top reasons to visit.
Additional information from Aurinkohirvi:
Well, to see good northern lights you need also a strong geomagnetic storm (plasma cloud from the Sun to hit Earth's magnetic field). Such thing may appear couple of times a year. Most nights it's just a faint glow, best seen with the corner of your eye. Many tourists get disapointed because they aren't told this and expectations are too high.
Geomagnetic storm is caused by an eruption called coronal mass ejection (CME) in the Sun. Has nothing to do what season we have here on Earth. There are internet sites that follow these occurences, and you may get the announcement of such an event a couple of days or hours in advance. It all dependes about the speed the plasma cloud travels from the Sun to Earth. It can arrive in less than an hour, or in a few days, depending on the Sun's magnetic fields. Sites that follow these Sun eruptions use words like space weather or geomagnetic storm. If you know when such a strong event happens, you have good chances to get a bright and amazing northern light phenomena.

RVing in Finland: Road Trip to the Arctic Circle and Beyond - Traveling Robert
We depart from Helsinki aboard our Sunlight T69L. We stop by the historic city of Porvoo, visit a viewer nearby. Then continue to Varkaus to visit our host Petteri, and his wife. We also get to chat with his friend and partner Tomi. From there is it all the way north into the Lapland, past the Arctic Circle, eventually into Norway. We get to visit Santa Claus Village near Rovaniemi, right at the Arctic Circle and the town on Inari.

What to Wear in Finland - Northern Lights Trip
This may seem obvious to most but it wasn't to me. Hence, this video for those who come from tropical countries. You need to be prepared when visiting a place that gets down to -40 degrees. Of course you can just get to Helsinki and buy everything at a department store - they have everything - jackets, good padded boots, ski or insulated pants and all the accessories. A good jacket - rated to minus 30 or 40 is necessary and many layers on your torso. One layer of thermals on your legs is a good idea too. PLEASE SUBSCRIBE:
