It is situated in the outermost northwest of the country and occupies a large and very sparsely populated area of about 8,400 square kilometres between the Swedish and Norwegian border. Hetta is the main village in the municipality of Enontekiö in the north-west part of Finnish Lapland. It is also the municipality's administrative centre and the start or end point of the standard trekking / skiing route across the Pallas-Yllastunturi National Park. Enontekiö Airport is located 9 kilometres west of Hetta and generally has flights from Helsinki in the Spring months. Otherwise, the nearest Finnish airport is Kittilä, c. 2 hours South although Alta, in Norway is a similar distance. For the Yemeni city, see Sana'aSaana is a fell in Enontekiö, Finland. Saana's summit lies 1,029 metres above sea level and 556 m above the adjacent Kilpisjärvi lake. Geologically it is part of the Scandinavian Mountains, and is made of the same kinds of schist and gneiss rock. The mountain was historically considered sacred to the Sami people. The peak is a popular destination for hikers and backpackers because of the sweeping views offered at the summit.In December 2017, in celebration of the 100th anniversary of Finland, Saana was lit with blue light. The area illuminated covered roughly 2.5 million square meters, making it the largest art illumination in the world.

It is located in the Lapland region, in the municipalities of Enontekiö, Kittilä, Kolari and Muonio. It was established in 2005, when Pallas-Ounastunturi National Park was joined with Ylläs-Aakenus Protected Area. Fell chain across the National Park is almost 100 kilometres long. Enontekiö 2015

Short film made up of aerial footage and some time lapse photography from my third visit to Lapland (and best so far).

Everything was filmed in the week between 3/10/2015 and 10/10/2015 using a DJI Phantom 3 Advanced and a Nikon D90. I concentrated more on still photos when we had aurora activity at night, hence their minimal role in this (not to mention my timelapse attempts were usually foiled by my intervalometer getting too cold and dying if I left the camera outside at night shooting for too long).

Main location was around our erämökki outside of Hetta, but also with a visit Jyppyrä in Hetta and to Saana/Kilpisjärvi at the border with Sweden and Norway in pretty unfavourable flying conditions.

In honour of Finland’s centenary celebration, we’ll extract Finnish people’s DNA from the extreme points of the country. The cello metal band Apocalyptica will then turn the genetic data into an original piece of music.
