Elli-Kaija Köngäs-Maranda was an internationally renowned anthropologist and feminist folklorist. She studied Finnish language and folklore at the University of Helsinki, where she received her B.A. in 1954 and her M.A. in 1955. She continued her studies in United States and did her doctoral dissertation in 1963 at Indiana University. She was a lecturer at Columbia University and a fellow at the Radcliffe Institute of Harvard University. Köngäs-Maranda was elected a Fellow of the American Folklore Society. The Society's Women's section inaugurated 1983 two prizes in her memory.

Levi is a fell located in Finnish Lapland, and the largest ski resort in Finland. The resort is located in Kittilä municipality and is served by Kittilä Airport and Kolari railway station. At a latitude of 67.8° north, it is located approximately 170 km north of the Arctic Circle. The peak of the Levi fell is at an elevation of 531 metres above sea level. There are 43 ski slopes and 27 ski lifts in Levi. Ascending the fell are 2 gondolas, 1 chairlift, 14 T-bar lifts, 5 stick lifts, 4 rope tows, and 1 magic carpet for children. Levi is one of two locations of gondola lifts in Finland, and has been chosen the best domestic skiing resort in Finland four times. Pallas-Yllästunturi National Park is the third-largest national park in Finland, covering 1,020 square kilometres . It is located in the Lapland region, in the municipalities of Enontekiö, Kittilä, Kolari and Muonio. It was established in 2005, when Pallas-Ounastunturi National Park was joined with Ylläs-Aakenus Protected Area. Fell chain across the National Park is almost 100 kilometres long. The highest fell Taivaskero 807 metres masl is located in middle, in Pallas area. The high fells of the park are the southernmost place to see some arctic species in Finland. Most of the park consists of primeval forests and various types of muskeg. From the crossing with Road 9551/Lemmenjoki (68° 43.3N, 26°22.8'E) to Pokka, the coldest place in Europe (-51.5°C in 1999) (at 68° 9.38'N, 25°45.575'E), 4x time-lapse, recorded on 24.01.2015. Music by the superb Sami Band Somby. Recorded with a Camcorder on the dashboard. Distance traveled is 72km in just under one hour.

Come and experience the age-old way of life of the Arctic folk, and learn about the life of Arctic sled dogs!
Visit the Husky Park at the village of Köngäs, where app. hundred cute dogs will happily greet you. Friendly Siberian huskies and playful light-coloured Japanese spitzes greet all visitors with wagging tails, and, if you are lucky, you'll get a wet lick on the face, a canine kiss. At first glance, the majestic-looking wolf hybrids that have starred in films can seem a little frightening, but closer inspection reveals that they are just as good-natured and curious as all the other residents of the dog park. Under the guidance of their handlers, these playful dogs will demonstrate some wonderful tricks that they have learned. And let's not forget the cute husky puppies, several litters of which are born every year, so that canines of all ages can almost always be seen at the park. You can sit for a while in a 'kota' to view a video telling about sled dogs and dog-racing. Then you might get a fluffy Japanese spitz, who, after some petting, may fall asleep in your lap. The handlers are also very eager to tell unforgettable tales about the lives of the dogs and what they do with them.
As well as dogs, you will also meet reindeer, of whom you can get a real reindeer kiss. How this happens, we will not reveal. You must come and experience it for yourself! The duration of a visit app. 1 hour (depending on group size).

BUYING GIFTS + OUR LAST DAY | JAMAICA DAY 7

Welcome back to another vlog!
Its official our last day in Jamaica & Joseph and I just used the day to relax and get our things sorted out before heading back to Toronto. We went to the market across the street from our resort and bought some souvenirs for our family, we went swimming for a bit, played games and just hung out. I love Jamaica y'guys and I definitely cant wait to go back!!!
