Posio is a municipality of Finland. It is located in the province of Lapland. The municipality has a population of 3,284 and covers an area of 3,544.90 square kilometres of which 506.14 km2 is water. The population density is 1.08 inhabitants per square kilometre . Neighbour municipalities are Rovaniemi, Kemijärvi, Ranua, Salla, Kuusamo, Taivalkoski and Pudasjärvi. The municipality has a single language, Finnish. Major employers in Posio are the municipality itself, a major pottery manufacturer Pentik and agriculture . 1. Korouoma Canyon Posio
Korouoma is about 30 kilometres long, few hundred metres wide and up to 130 m deep canyon at Posio, Finland. The entire area is a natural reserve. At the bottom of the canyon there's Korojoki River, which ends up to Kemijoki River. There are plenty of species in varied nature of Korouoma. Some of species found are rare. Korouoma offers great opportunities for hiking, watching the nature, fishing and reviewing the cultural history of usage of nature at the area. Korouoma is fairly popular hiking area. There is a marked hiking path at the bottom of the Korouoma and several fireplaces, huts and cabins. Riisitunturi National Park is a national park in Posio, Finnish Lapland. It was established in 1982 and covers 77 square kilometres . The park is on a mountainous area, and there are also many swamps, especially hillside swamps. The only wilderness hut in the park is located near the twin-peak of Riisitunturi, 465.3 m .

Karhunkierros is a hiking trail that stretches from Salla to Kuusamo in north-eastern Finland. The route was first marked in 1955, and has since become the most popular hiking trail in Finland, attracting some 15,000 hikers every year, mainly over the high season lasting from mid-July to late September. The trail is approximately 80 kilometres long, and runs for the most of its length within the Oulanka National Park.

Pyhä-Luosto National Park is a national park in Lapland, Finland. It was established in 2005 when Finland's oldest national park, Pyhätunturi National Park was joined to Luosto. This makes Pyhä-Luosto Finland's oldest but at the same time newest national park. The new park covers 142 square kilometres . The most important features are geological specialities, old forests and wetlands. The park's base is formed by Finland's southernmost, 12-peak tunturi line. The tunturis are remnants of Alp-like mountains of 2 billion years of age. 200-year-old or older pine tree forests grow on the hills. The highest tunturis are Noitatunturi, 540 m , and Ukko-Luosto, 514 m .

Scenic drive from Finnish Lapland to the Lofoten Islands, Norway

Great drive experience, beautiful scenery and impressive roads from Kilpisjärvi (Lapland, Finland) to Svolvær (Lofoten Islands, Norway) north of the Arctic Circle.

Kilpisjärvi ( is the northwesternmost Lapland village in Finland, and the last village before the border of Norway close to the Arctic Ocean.

Svolvær is the main town and port of the Lofoten island group ( in Nordland county, Norway. Svolvær is a good starting point to explore the Lofoten archipelago.

The drive was about 450 km and 7 hours. It took place in March.

Route:

Start from Arctic Polar Holiday Village in Kilpisjärvi (
E8 up north from Kilpisjärvi, the famous Saana fell on the right - crossing the border to Norway.
E6 to the west to Bjerkvik - E10 to the Tjeldsund Bridge.
After the Tjeldsund Bridge road 83 to the north - shortcut road Gate 1490 - back to road 83 to Refsnes.
Refsnes to Flesnes ferry (
Road 83/85 - back to the E10 road to Svolvær.
End in Svinøya Rorbuer in Svolvær harbor (

The fastest way is to follow the E10 road from the Tjeldsund Bridge to Svolvær.

Frozen Waterfalls of Korouoma - Finland in Winter

Korouoma Canyon is a geological fracture valley. It is 10 km long and, in places, several hundred meters wide. At the center of the valley, it forms a magnificent gorge that drops over a 100 meters below its surrounding terrain.

In winter, several steep streams freeze forming huge ace formations. Some can be climbed and Korouoma is known to be the best climbing destination in Finland.
