Lake Lanao is a large ancient lake in the Philippines, located in Lanao del Sur province in the country's southern island of Mindanao. With a surface area of 340 km², it is the largest lake in Mindanao, and the second largest lake in the Philippines and counted as one of the 15 ancient lakes in the world. Wikipedia

Philippines: Navy Seals battle Maute group on Lake Lanao
Security forces fighting armed groups in the southern Philippines are focusing their efforts on a strategic lake.
Last month, Navy Seals intercepted several boats carrying weapons, ammunition and material to make bombs.
Al Jazeera's Jamela Alindogan was given exclusive access to see the Seals in action on Lake Lanao, on Mindanao island.

Lanao del Sur, Barely Untold
Lanao del Sur is a province in southern Philippines that the world is largely missing out on. It is often described as a dangerous place to visit because of too much aggression.
But the realities are not what it really seem in totality when you step into the beautiful world of the Maranaos. Being the first travel blogger to have ever gone into its depths, I discovered special rarities, deep cultural values, strong faith in Islam & sincerely hospitable people.

Marawi City, officially known as the Islamic City of Marawi (Maranao: Inged san Marawi; Arabic: مدينة مراوي; Filipino: Lungsod Islamiko ng Marawi), is the capital and the largest city of the province of Lanao del Sur on the island of Mindanao in the Philippines. According to the 2015 census, it has a population of 201,785.[3]
The people of Marawi are called the Maranaos and speak the Maranao language. They are named after Lake Lanao, which is called Meranau in the language, upon whose shores Marawi lies. The city is also called the Summer Capital of the South because of its higher elevation and cooler climate,[4] a nickname it shares with Malaybalay, which legally holds the title.
