Upper Peninsula Breaking News
(Chocolay Township, MI - An ambulance received a motorcycle escort to the hospital late yesterday afternoon Fri., June 17, 2016 for a seriously injured friend who was struck by a deer while riding on M-28.
The victim, a Skandia man, received numerous injuries when a deer bolted into the side of his motorcycle while a group of cycles were headed east bound on M-28 just past Lakenenland, a sculpture museum at 2800 M-28 east.
The accident happened about one quarter mile east of Shot Point Road on the east edge of Chocolay Township in eastern Marquette County, MI.
The victim, who was the only one involved in the deer accident, suffered injuries that are not life threatening.
There was a group of motorcyclists eastbound on M-28 – about a quarter mile east of Shot Point Road – when a deer came running out onto the roadway from the north side heading south and ran into one of the motorcyclists, said Chocolay Township Police Officer Gerald Trotochaud.
Once the deer struck the motorcyclist – he went off the roadway – and has numerous injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening, said officer Trotochaud.
Assisting on the scene were paramedics aboard a U.P. Health System Marquette ambulance that transported the victim, plus Chocolay Township first responders and the Chocolay Township Fire Department.
