Langjokull Glacier (Iceland)
Welcome to Langjokull Glacier...
They call it the ‘Long Glacier’. In fact it's the second-largest in Iceland - 935 square kilometres of ice-swept terrain, patrolled by howling blizzards and often wrapped in white-out conditions. Half-hidden in the snowy shroud are two active volcano systems, their ancient calderas often visible from above.
Located in the Icelandic Highlands, this glacier rises to its highest point at its northernmost extremities, in an area called Baldjökull, around 4,757 feet above sea level.

Snowmobile across the surface of Langjokull Glacier then head down into its ice caves on a day trip from Reykjavik.
Set off from Reykjavik for one of the most exhilarating winter experiences in Iceland: snowmobiling across Langjökull Glacier. You’ll speed across snow and ice on your way to visit the man-made ice caves. There, climb below the surface and learn about the formation of the glacier from your guide. To finish off the day, you can choose to soak in a thermal swimming pool, or check out the beauty of the Hraunfossar and Barnafoss waterfalls. Either way, this is an incredible way to spend a day away from Reykjavik.

Snowmobiling on Iceland's Langjökull Glacier
This video was recorded during an add-on to my Golden Circle tour with Arctic Adventures (this is not a sponsored video), in Iceland.
We had the chance to drive snowmobiles on the Langjökul Glacier. The snowmobiles, gear, and guide worked for Snowmobile.is.
Langjökull means Long Glacier. It stretches over 950 Km2 (367 sq. miles), and its highest peak is about 1,400 m above sea level (about 4,600 feet).
The Langjökull Glacier is the second largest Glacier in Iceland, and Europe, and has two volcanic systems below it.
The largest glacier in Iceland (and Europe) is Vatnajökull, which has 8,099 Km2 (3,127 square miles). That is almost ten times larger than Langjökull. Check out my video Hiking in the Vatnajökull Glacier” (to be posted soon) to see Vatnajökull. Unlike Langjökull, Vatnajökull is covered in ashes.

We went snowmobiling! (Yes, this is what we do in summer over here). Our staff (Kara, Natasha, Kristína and Jónas) had lots of fun. We captured some of the moments during a break and we are happy to share them with you!

The Largest Man-Made Ice Tunnel in Langjokull Glacier, Iceland!
The world's largest human-made ice tunnel was recently dug out on the western slopes of one of the biggest glaciers in Iceland - Langjokull. The tunnel and cave system stretches for 550 meters into solid glacier ice at about 30 meters below the surface making it the largest man-made ice structure in the world.
