Slot Canyons: A Guided Hike Near Kanab, Utah
It's said that Southern Utah offers the highest concentration of slot canyons in the world. Well-prepared visitors can hike right into some of them, but the best experience is with a guide. In the Paria Canyon-Vermilion Cliffs Wilderness, Nick Smith of Detours Adventures shows how to safely and respectfully visit these stunning but fragile landscapes.

Grand Staircase-Escalante
The most beautiful monument in The US
The Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument is a U.S. National Monument protecting 1,880,461 acres (760,996 ha)[1] of land in southern Utah.
There are three main regions: the Grand Staircase, the Kaiparowits Plateau, and the Canyons of the Escalante - all of which are administered by the Bureau of Land Management as part of the National Landscape Conservation System. President Bill Clinton designated the area as a national monument in 1996 using his authority under the Antiquities Act. Grand Staircase-Escalante encompasses the largest land area of all U.S. National Monuments.

The Monument stretches from the towns of Big Water, Glendale and Kanab, Utah on the southwest, to the towns of Escalante and Boulder on the northeast. Encompassing 1.9 million acres, the Monument is slightly larger in area than the state of Delaware.
The western part of the Monument is dominated by the Paunsaugunt Plateau and the Paria River, and is adjacent to Bryce Canyon National Park. This section shows the geologic progression of the Grand Staircase. Features include the slot canyons of Bull Valley Gorge, Willis Creek, and Lick Wash which are accessed from Skutumpah Road.

Hog Canyon Near Kanab, Utah Part 2
In this video we continue on Hog Canyon and we get a little turned around, because the map and the signs are not very well laid out. We do get to a little challenge that is quite exciting in this video. I hope you enjoy it and tell me what you think.
There is a Slot Canyon Here Somewhere
The adventure in Moab, Utah continues. We are in search of the elusive Mary Jane slot canyon. Miles and miles of desolate dirt and rock with some very familiar western scenery. A few unexpected surprises along the way. Don't forget to stick around for the beer segment at the end.

Part 3: Kanab to Boulder via Escalante Grand Staircase
We ride 130 miles of Utah back roads from Kanab to Boulder. Back roads include Johnson Canyon Road, Skutumpah (BLM 500) Road, and Scenic Byway Hwy 12.
Much of the route is off pavement and the entire 130 miles cuts through the 1.9 million acres of the Escalante Grand Staircase National Monument.
We stop for lunch in Boulder, Ut at the Burr Trail Grill. This stop marks the start of the Burr Trail which will take us to Bullfrog, Ut at Lake Powell and will be covered in the next video.
Streets of Kanab, Utah, turn into raging rivers after heavy rain
Reed Timmer was in Kanab, Utah on July 14 where major flash flooding has greatly slowed traffic and turned streets into raging rivers.
Johnson Canyon
Johnson Canyon near Kanab Utah. Scene is a valley between the sandstone formations with a meandering dry river bed -- about 13 miles from US 89. Video was shot in 4K with an Inspire 1 Pro drone and edited using Premiere Pro.
In addition to the interesting formations and the dry river bed the changing light near sunset was pretty great. The final scene is a tree with its shadow against a lemon color sandstone rock face.
Near here in Johnson Canyon is an old abandoned Western Movie set that's fallen down as the heyday of Western Movies has long since passed.
I hope the long scenes with changing light and ethereal music will provide a peaceful mood.
The music was purchased and downloaded from musicloops.com and the artist and title are Dan Pound and Smoke Signals.
Please check out some of my other videos from this area including drone videos in 4K of Mexican Hat, the Valley of the Gods, and the Moki Dugway. And feel free to check out my other videos on my channel. See links...
