Ernie Niemi with Yes on 21-177 at the Lincoln City Cultural Center, Oregon 4/9/17
Citizens for a Healthy County welcome Ernie Niemi to Newport and Lincoln city. He creates a great economic picture of Lincoln County. He should know he grew up in the county. The night centered around, jobs, the lack of timber job growth, and the dangers that logging are bringing to our county. The true cost of the industrial logging is climate change. Oregon timber harvest account for up to 30% of our carbon output per year. He is only giving the economic numbers for State and other sources to talk about the truth about the timber industry. They are poisoning our water and bankrupting Oregon Counties by paying little to no taxes.
The total timber industry pays 20 million dollars of property tax a year in Western Oregon. say Niemi.
The tax they do pay goes from the left pocket to the right pocket. With 28 % of the timber tax goes to a Industry PR group that tells us There is nothing to worry about in our forest That is just insane that they get to write off all the commercials that you see of nice healthy water and forest.

Forgotten Town in Oregon
#Reedsport, OR “Nothing but Peace and Quiet!”
Fun Things to Do in Reedsport on the Oregon Coast
Reedsport is a small town on the Oregon Coast, located at the point where the Umpqua River flows into the Pacific. Reedsport is nicely situated in the midst of the famous Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area. These features combine to make Reedsport a scenic and fun place to visit and an access point to a broad range of outdoor recreation. Here are my picks for fun things to do in Reedsport, Oregon.
Umpqua Discovery Center
Reedsport's Umpqua Discovery Center is a little tricky to find but well worth a visit. The museum has two wings -- one devoted to the natural history of the region, the other devoted to the human history. All of the exhibits are well designed to appeal to both children and adults. The natural history section is a simulated hike called Pathways To Discovery - Exploring Tidewater Country. The walls along the way are covered in exquisitely detailed murals containing the flora and fauna that call the area home.
Interpretive signs, exhibits, drawers, and recordings are scattered along the route, filling you in on the local critters and landscape. Be sure to spend some time in the theatre cave to view one of the short films. The other section inside of the Umpqua Discovery Center is called Tidewaters & Time. You'll take a walk through time, learning about the local human history and culture through a variety of sights and sounds. The Coastal Indian Tribes, early explorers, pioneers, loggers, fishermen, and early settlement are all covered.
The center of the Umpqua Discovery Center contains a well-stocked gift shop that includes books, nautical items, gift items, and learning toys. The museum sits along the Umpqua River. Decks and boardwalks behind the center allow you to enjoy great views of Reedsport's bridges and estuarine environment. Take the stairs up to the viewing tower to extend your view.
Umpqua Lighthouse State Park
The charming Umpqua Lighthouse lies within a working U.S. Coast Guard facility and can be visited on a scheduled tour. Nearby you'll find the Coastal Visitor Center & Museum, located in the old Coast Guard Administration Building. The visitor center houses many interesting exhibits and artifacts related to the history of Coast Guard activities in the area. Umpqua Lighthouse State Park visitors can also enjoy camping, walking trails, whale watching, and picnicking.
Dean Creek Elk Viewing Area
You'll head east out of Reedsport on Highway 38 to get to the Dean Creek Elk Viewing Area, home of a resident herd of magnificent Roosevelt elk. The viewing area stretches along a 3-mile section of Oregon Highway 38, with two viewing areas and several observation pull-outs. The Dean Creek Elk outdoor interpretive exhibits allow you to learn more about the elk, as well as other local flora and fauna. Another BLM-operated recreation site, the O.H. Hinsdale Rhododendron Garden, is located on the other side of Highway 38.
Oregon Dunes NRA Visitor Center
Staffed by expert park rangers, the official visitor center for the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area is located right along Highway 101 in Reedsport. You'll be able to find out anything and everything you want to know about Oregon Dunes activities, as well as other local recreation and attractions. The Oregon Dunes NRA Visitor Center also has a few interpretive exhibits and a small bookstore.
Annual Chainsaw Carving Championship in Reedsport
Total Eclipse of the Sun on August 21, 2017 -- Oregon
The umbra, nighttime, will hit the shores of Oregon at 10:15 53 am PDT near a small town called Otter Rock. The center of totality will cross the beach some 8 miles north of Otter Rock near Depoe Bay a few seconds later. The center line, intersecting the ocean shore, will have a duration of darkness of 1 minute and 59 seconds (with less as you travel away from the center line).
The umbra will exit eastern Oregon at 10:27 05 am PDT. Duration of totality, at the state line, will be 2 minutes and 10 seconds near Lime Oregon. The only major city in the path of totality is Salem. Portland and Eugene will only be able to see a partial eclipse.

Pacific City, Oregon Tidepools: Species Observations
Location:
Haystack Rock
Cape Kiwanda
Pacific City, Oregon
Date: March 6, 2015
The seagull in the intro was filmed at Neskowin State Beach. Just south of Pacific City, Oregon. The tide was still too high there to get much footage so, off to the beach at Pacific City, Oregon.
I spent a lot of time on this beach when I was younger. Driving and parking are allowed on the beach. Dory boats are also launched right off the beach here. There are tide pools on the rocks at the base of Cape Kiwanda at low tide. Low tide also exposes a number of sea caves along the base of Cape Kiwanda.
I was happy to see more species diversity and numbers at this location, versus Lincoln City, Oregon.
( video for Lincoln City, Taft Bay, Oregon here: Central Oregon Coast Sea Species Observations and Health Check )
There didn't appear to be many birds. I only remember seeing a couple of seagulls and didn't seem to get any footage of them this time.
There were lots of hermit crabs, mollusks and small fish.
There were a lot of sea anemones. They appeared bright in color, healthy and abundant, in both species numbers and diversity.
I think I even photographed a private sea anemone moment ;) @ 6:14
Plant life seemed abundant in some species while lacking in others. I didn't see any clumps of washed up seaweed or kelp of any type along the shoreline as the tide receded. Pictured @ 3:42 in the video is a plant species that appears almost transparent and white in some parts. This plant is typically green. I am not sure if it is normal for this plant to turn white and transparent. I have never noticed this before and it appeared odd to me. I saw it quite a few times throughout the tide pools.
Barnacle colonies are breaking up and disappearing. The older barnacles are dying, bleaching and breaking off. The younger barnacles are sparse and scattered. There are very few mixed aged colonies like I remember from years past.
Muscle beds are breaking up and thinning out. They are located farther out to sea on the rocks, than in years past and do not appear to be healthy and thriving.
Star fish are located farther out to sea on the rocks than in years past. There were very few starfish compared to the many colors, sizes and types I am used to seeing here. Most were purple. I saw a couple with lesions and deformed swollen looking limbs, but wasn't able to safely get out close enough for a clear close-up shot this time.
I did manage to get footage of the sea caves along the base of Cape Kiwanda at low tide, however, the tide wasn't low enough to safely reach any farther than I show in the video on that particular day.

LINCOLN CITY
1723 NW Harbor Ave
Lincoln City, Oregon 97367
Thor’s Well, Cape Perpetua. Lincoln County, Oregon.
Footage taken 11/25/17.
Cape Perpetua is located about 2 miles (3.2 km) south of Yachats, Oregon, along U.S. Route 101. It is a typical Pacific Northwest headland, forming a high steep bluff above the ocean. At its highest point, Cape Perpetua rises to over 800 feet (240 m) above sea level. From its crest, an observer can see 70 miles (110 km) of Oregon coastline and as far as 37 miles (60 km) out to sea on a clear day.[1]
The Forest Service created the Cape Perpetua Scenic Area and built the Cape Perpetua Visitor Center in the 1960s to highlight the unique beauty of the central Oregon Coast. The scenic area includes 2,700 acres (11 km2) of old growth spruce, Douglas-fir, and western hemlock.[1]
Camping, picnicking, hiking, sightseeing, whale watching, and a visitor center with daily programs are all available within the Cape Perpetua Scenic Area. There are twenty-six miles of interconnected hiking trails in old growth forests which lead to Pacific Ocean tidal pools.[1][9] One of the trails leads to a 600-year-old Giant Sitka Spruce known as the Silent Sentinel of the Siuslaw. This tree stands more than 185 feet (56 m) high, and has a 40-foot (12 m) circumference at its base.[10] On September 15, 2007, this ancient spruce was designated an Oregon Heritage Tree by the State of Oregon to recognize its exceptional age and size and ensure its protection.[1]
Along the Cape Perpetua coastline, there are several unique features as well. The Devil's Churn is a long crack in the coastal rock that fills with each ocean wave, occasionally exploding as incoming and outgoing waves collide. The Spouting Horn at Cook's Chasm and Thor's Well on the plateau nearby are both salt water fountains driven by the power of the ocean tide. Thor's Well is at 44.278421°N 124.113499°W. Spouting Horn is at 44.277497°N 124.112994°W. Both Thor's Well and Spouting Horn are best seen approximately an hour before high tide to an hour after high tide. How spectacular the sights are is a function of the height of the high tide and the direction and size of the swells. The wind can also be a factor. Devil's Churn, Spouting Horn and Thor's Well are popular with visitors; however, all three can be dangerous especially at high tide and during winter storms.[1]
The Cape Perpetua Visitor Center is located two miles (3 km) south of Yachats. The visitor center has views of the ocean and coast from its deck. It is also used to watch migrating gray whales. The visitor center has natural history and cultural exhibits, an interactive children's science area, a theater with nature films, and a bookstore. An SCR-270B radar was installed on the site in 1943 in response to the bombing of Mt. Emily, Brookings, Oregon.[1]
