Exploring Hilton's Carté Hotel in Little Italy San Diego
Take a Behind the Smoke tour of the Carté Hotel, Hilton's Curio Collection property in Little Italy San Diego.
Before recording an episode of Digital Hospitality, host Shawn Walchef and the hotel's Food and Beverage Director Chans Rock toured the new hotel and its many beautiful features.
Along the way, they talked about how the hotel strives to customize the guest experience through interactions and options both online and offline.
After all, a hotel is always open and guests always have requests.
At Cali Comfort BBQ, at least we get to close on Christmas and Thanksgiving. At the Carté Hotel, they're open at 2 a.m., 3 a.m., 6 a.m.
And the guests have needs at all those hours, Chans Rock said.
The Carté Hotel strives to fill those needs in the physical world, but also online, from the booking process to when a guest checks in, to when they wind down with a nightcap or use the pool.
The Carté Hotel's three dining and drink venues were designed to each reflect the history and culture of the region, from menu items to decorations.
As Shawn Walchef and Chans Rock went up to the top floor lounge Above Ash Social, they reflected on how much the landscape has changed in downtown San Diego. It's grown significantly over the years, with many discovering the beauty of the city.
San Diego sells itself, Shawn Walchef said about his hometown.
We're very proud of it. We're pretty fortunate, Chans Rock said about their location in the vibrant Little Italy Neighborhood and the amazing view.

San Diego Food Tour - MASSIVE BURGERS and CRAZY TOSTADAS in California, USA!

Thank you to my sister Pam and brother in law Derek for joining me on this food tour of San Diego, California! And during the video I said Oceanside once, but I meant *Ocean Beach. We were on a family vacation in California, but on one day, we decided to go on an ultimate San Diego California food tour. It was a lot of fun, and you’ll find all the information of all the places we ate below:
Breakfast at Northside Shack - We started off in the morning, and first headed to Northside Shack to try their highly rated açaí bowl. It’s a laid back kind of spot, and I ordered the $11 bowl which was the large size. The acai is frozen into a sorget, and then they layered it with granola, about 12 different kinds of fruits, and nuts and seeds. It was delicious and refreshing, great way to begin this food tour.
Hodad's - Probably one of the most legendary of all restaurants in San Diego, California is Hodad’s serving massive double bacon cheeseburgers, and classic American food. The original location is located in Ocean Beach, and it has so much character, plastered with graffiti and stickers. Derek and I each ordered the double bacon cheeseburger, which is a monster burger. It takes some strategy to eat, but it was well worth it. It’s a delicious burger, and I also really enjoyed the onion rings. Price - $14.25
Blue Water Seafood Market & Grill - Pam and Derek had been here before and they knew it was good, so it was a restaurant in San Diego that I was looking forward to trying. You stand in line, order at the counter, and then find a seat. They offer fresh fish of the day, everything very fresh. We started with some oysters and the main dish, which was the best dish of the meal for me was the blackened black seabass. Delicious food, one of the best restaurants I ate at in San Diego. Total price - $65.23
Communal Coffee - Next we stopped to have a quick avocado toast and coffee. It was my first avocado toast at a restaurant, and although it was a little dainty, it was pretty awesomely delicious, a real treat. Price - $26.02 for everything (I think 3 coffees and avocado)
Nine Seas Seafood - Home of the Crazy Tostada, this seafood food truck is a gem of Mexican seafood. We ordered a few ceviches, not knowing how enormous the crazy tostadas were. They were huge, and packed with just about “everything from the sea.” But not only were the crazy tostates huge and crazy, but they were delicious, especially loaded with salsa. Total price - $24.75 for everything
And that completes this San Diego food tour. It was an amazing day and the food was delicious!

The Pulse and M Winehouse in Little Italy San Diego
We featured the fabulous M Winehouse in Little Italy on our TV show. We learn about Ruth Melero and her story. An entrepreneur from a young age, she has it in her blood. Find out how she went from a fashion empire to building an amazing wine bar in the gorgeous and quaint Little Italy. (the building was built in 1888 so it is an oldie but goodie.) It is a little slice of San Diego History. Check this out!

Happy Anniversary to the Little Italy Mercato Farmers Market!
The Little Italy Mercato began officially in June 2008 with a handful of optimistic merchants who were part of the vision to create a destination-worthy farmers' market for their community and Greater San Diego. Since then, the Mercato has grown into a nationally-recognized model for its commitment to farm-fresh goods and sincere artisan craft. Today, local shoppers and visitors to Little Italy are able to discover and purchase Southern California's best seasonal offerings each weekend in the heart of San Diego's Little Italy. The Mercato runs from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Saturday along Date Street.
In the past month, shoppers have noticed its expansion west of Kettner Street bringing the full event footprint to six blocks with more than 130 merchants, making it San Diego's largest and most visited farmers' market. Visitors to San Diego can celebrate the Mercato's anniversary by heading to its location, walkable from all areas of Little Italy as well as many other areas of downtown San Diego, during their stay. Every Saturday in June, there will be something extra added to the already vibrant lineup.
