The Loki-Schmidt-Garten, also known as Botanischer Garten Hamburg, or, more formally, as Botanischer Garten der Universität Hamburg or Biozentrum Klein Flottbek und Botanischer Garten, is a botanical garden maintained by the University of Hamburg. It has a size of around 25 hectares and is located at Ohnhorststrasse 18, Hamburg, Germany, beside the Klein Flottbek station in the Osdorf quarter, and open daily without charge. It was renamed in 2012 after Loki Schmidt, the wife of the former German chancellor Helmut Schmidt. Though it was renamed, the old name coexists with the new one.[1] Nearby Klein Flottbek station still has the second name Botanischer Garten

he plants in the gardens represent a variety of small ecosystems: from a crops section and a German forest to a farmer’s garden including a small farmhouse, many different indigenous plants find a home in the project. Other plants are more exotic to these parts: a botanical trip around the northern hemisphere takes you through a Mediterranean, a boreal, and an alpine section. You can wade through the Everglades and walk under the Spanish moss of Louisiana. Next up, cross the desert to wind up in China to find a temple donated by the city of Shanghai. The Japanese section was designed by architect Yoshikuni Araki, who was also responsible for the Japanese gardens in Planten un Blomen park. Rose, shrub and rhododendron sections, as well as an area on ‘Biblical plants’, round out the experience.
To learn more about the plants on offer, there are regular tours through the gardens, after which you can refresh yourself at Café Palme. With newly gathered energy, the nearby Jenischpark and Ernst Barlach Haus could be next up on your trip into Altona precinct.

Loki-Schmidt-Garten heißt seit 2012 der Neue Botanische Garten beim Biozentrum der Universität Hamburg in Hamburg-Osdorf am S-Bahnhof Klein Flottbek. Zu diesem gehören weiterhin die Schaugewächshäuser des früheren Botanischen Gartens auf dem Gelände von Planten un Blomen am Dammtor.
Zu jeder Jahreszeit ist diese Anlage sehenswert, im Mai aber ganz besonders, wenn alles grünt und blüht. Full HD, 11. Mai 2015

Als Hamburger genieße ich, dass die wenigsten den Loki-Schmidt-Botanischen-Garten in Klein Fottbeck Hamburg nicht kennen oder noch nie dagewesen sind. Dabei ist dieser Garten einer der Schönsten in Deutschland. Ein Besuch ist sehr empfehlenswert. Anschließende sollte man über den Jenisch Park runter zur Elbe laufen. Ihr werdet es genießen!

The Planten un Blomen park in central Hamburg is a wonderful destination for families, romantic couples and those seeking relaxation. There is a botanical garden with a tropical greenhouse and the largest Japanese garden in Europe. Whether riding a pony or a tea ceremony in the Japanese garden, everyday life is far away from here.
Anyone who wants to take a break during their stay in the Hanseatic city simply must visit the Planten un Blomen park in Hamburg. Where Danish cannonballs flew centuries ago, a gorgeous green recreation area now extends from St. Pauli to the Alster. The green ring around Hamburg dates back to the ramparts demolished at the beginning of the 19th century. At first there was a zoological garden here, and in the 1930s the park was gradually converted into a freely accessible public recreation area. The Low German name, which essentially just means plants and flowers, dates from this period.
In the centre of the park is a tropical greenhouse complex. The greenhouses were opened for the 1963 IGA - the special features of the support structure allow the interiors to be clear of structural elements at a maximum height of 13 m. The complex is divided into five areas by plant groups and habitats and is a listed building - as are the adjacent Mediterranean terraces.
2015, 8. Oktober: Die Baumdahlie im Botanischen Garten/Loki-Schmidt-Garten Hamburg (Diaschau)
Hier gibt es die Baumdahlie zu sehen, eine echte Rarität. Sie wird 2-3m hoch, hat Bambusartig aussehende Stämme, die verholzen, blüht aber bis jetzt noch nicht in Norddeutschland.

Tschüß Sommer! hieß es am 23. 09. 2012 im Loki-Schmidt-Garten, Hamburg, Klein Flottbek.
Auch wenn laut Kalender der Sommer beendet war, die Spätsommer-Sonne kam nocheinmal richtig schön heraus. Die Kamera filmte eine Honigbiene bei der Arbeit. Der Garten verfügt über eine eigene Imkerei, bietet Honig aus eigener Manufaktur.
