Loveland Museum of Art - Presentation by Jözef Sumichrast - July 2011
Jözef Sumichrast began his career as a draftsman and designer, became a painter and then a sculptor. Sumichrast makes his sculptures from flat rounded forms that recall natural elevations and depressions in typographical maps. The use of materials is a very important aspect of his artistic creation. The plaster pieces of his work are made from a plastic polymer coating that is formed over a laminated cardboard and sheet metal base. Sumichrast states, The strength and limitations of these materials help determine my work.
The artist knows horses, for he rides them in the Pacific Ocean on family vacations at remote Mexican beaches. His pedestal-size sculptures seem buoyant and some are legless because he often visualizes horses in the water where they swim like dogs. He gives smaller parts of the horse a near-mechanical apperance. This strategy distances the work from realistic representation. My sculptures are not horses, he says, They convey the essance of a horse.
He sees people, animals and objects as cardboard cutouts, frozen in time. To understand our spirtual presence, there is a need to look around their corners.

That's All Rright at Bob's 4-27-14
Jerry VanNeste and Friends in concert, live audience recording during the 3 PM show before the regular jam at 4 PM - 7 PM on Sunday at Bob's Barn Jamborees in Lake Odessa, MI.
Jerry VanNeste, vocals and guitar, a semi-retired landscape architect-contractor, and Jeanne, have been married four fourteen years, both having lost their first spouses.
Not being around the jam scene for long, his earlier years were spent studying the civil war and traveling to civil war sites, museums and civil war round tables, followed by sixteen years traveling the mid-west and eastern United States competing in rifle and pistol competitions. Jerry spent many years traveling the western mountains in the summertime and hunted twenty-four years in Wyoming-Colorado. Besides operating a snowmobile guide service near Yellowstone National Park for six winters, he spent many winters in the southwest Untied States exploring art galleries, museums and ancient Indian sites.
Traveling, Jerry had the opportunity to visit and enjoy many good restaurants in the southwest and experienced many performances of western, Spanish and Indian music. Through this time Jerry developed a desire to try to perform the best he could and started to learn guitar and sing about five years ago.
Jerry remarks, I thoroughly enjoy the people who come to the music jams and marvel at the talent, ability and generosity of these god country folks. They are the cream of the crop.
Jimmy Champagne on guitar/vocals has become a much admired friend of Jerry's. An accomplished musician having grown up as a migrant worker, Jimmy possesses a deep mellow voice, and aids a great deal with his knowledge of music to the other two in the group.
John Tempelaere on fiddle. Playing the fiddle since he was seven. John lends a solid good sound to the group. Familiar with classic country and old time.

Haesindang park, or 해신당 공원 ,also known as the penis park. Korean penis park. Spent the weekend in Sinnam, Samcheok taking a tour of Korea's penis park.
Korea's penis park, 해신당, is not in Seoul, it s on the east coast of Korea. To get to Haesindang park you need to take a bus to Samcheok city and then take a smaller bus for 1 hour to Sinnam.
Sinnam is a small town so you will have no problem finding Haesindang Penis Park location. Entrance fee is something like 3 dollars, not very much.

Arts District: Pop Art legend brings her current work to Colorado
Jann Haworth distinguished herself in the 1960s London art scene by using her skills in sewing to invent soft sculpture. She and her then husband Peter Blake also designed the cover for the Beatles’ Sgt. Pepper album. Now based in Utah, Haworth was brought to Denver by the Emmanuel Gallery for a solo exhibit of her current art.

Colorado painter and muralist Thomas Hart Benton pioneers a painting style known as Regionalism and depicts working class American life at his exhibit at the Evergreen Fine Art Gallery.
Anna Skibska studied architecture, fine arts and painting but she describes her work with glass as storytelling. We learn more about her approach in an exhibit titled Reveries at the Loveland Museum.

Sheri Sparkle Williams danced with Dayton Contemporary Dance Company for 40 years.

My Daily Video Diary on Sculpting -
Erin Shirreff, Sculpture Park (Tony Smith), 2006 (excerpt)
Canadian artist Erin Shirreff, winner of the 2013 AIMIA | AGO Photography Prize, is known for works that blur the boundaries between image and object. One of Shirreff's earliest video works, Sculpture Park (Tony Smith) (2006), is a 37-minute film based on a study of five outdoor works by iconic sculptor Tony Smith. Drawing on photos culled from books and the Internet, Shirreff constructed maquettes based on each of Smith's monumental sculptures. (This excerpt focuses on his Spitball from 1961.) There's a kind of melancholic yet mysterious presence to the black forms of Shirreff's sculptural models as they slowly resolve against the darkness in a storm of artificial snow. Shirreff intends this not as a critique to Smith's work, nor as an homage. Rather, she sees it as a signal of the inherent flux of sculptural context and media perspective over time. For more information on Shirreff, read our Spring 2014 issue, which includes a feature article on her practice. Video excerpt provided courtesy of Sikkema, Jenkins & Co., New York.
