Maruyama Park, Kyoto, Japan travel video
Maruyama Park, in Kyoto, Japan has an enchanting pond encircled by pretty landscaping with a picturesque foot-bridge in the center. There’s no need to walk up the gully, but do consider having a meal at the traditional restaurant in the small park, serving shojin ryori vegetarian temple cuisine. We will show you their famous potatoes shortly.
Maruyama is a wonderful and famous place to do some relaxing.
And there are some ducks, there are crows – some locals feeding the ducks here.
These wild birds have become so used to people that they are very friendly, even the ravens which are normally quite elusive.
You can easily walk into Maruyama Park from a couple of nearby famous temples of Yasaka and Kiyomizu. Chion-in is on the north edge of the park. So this is really one of the most popular strolls in all of Kyoto. We're in the eastern part of Kyoto, the Higashiyama district.
a little stroll along the stream here.
The park is most famous for its cherry blossoms in the month of April, which attract millions of people.
This is a classic walk and it leads you into another path with a bridge crossing over the pond, and the path can continue up along the stream if you wish for another quarter-mile. It's a very easy stroll with these beautiful weeping willow trees.

Maruyama Park (Maruyama Koen) is Kyoto's premier cherry blossom spot, and a nationally designated Place of Scenic Beauty.

MARUYAMA PARK, KYOTO CHERRY BLOSSOMS AND STREET FOOD
I visited Maruyama Park next to Yasaka Shrine in Kyoto to get some more cherry blossom footage but was also greeted by delicious festival food stalls (yatai). I discovered that this is one of the top hanami (cherry blossom viewing) spots in Kyoto and I never visited before. Go figure.
Also come and see some new festival food that I've not shown before on the channel.

Kyoto, Japan Nanzenji, Maruyama Park, Chion-in, part 5
Nanzen-Ji is a vast complex with numerous subtemples, gardens and shrines sprawling up the hillside, including another pebble garden, hiking trails, waterfalls and a mountain glen. And later, from Nanzen-ji we’re heading over to Maruyama Park, the main public garden of Kyoto.
Nanzen-ji was bestowed the title of “First Temple of the Land‚” and is considered by many to be the most famous and important Zen Temple in the world. It's designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Nanzenin is a smaller sub-temple behind the main Nanzen-ji, and it's one of the oldest and yet one of the least well-known sub temples, perhaps because it's slightly hidden away. The pond garden was built in the strolling style representing the late Kamakura period and retains an image of beautiful scenery surrounded by deep forest with an exceptional atmosphere of peace and tranquility. It was designated a national historic and scenic site in 1923.
It's a very small garden that you could walk around in five minutes and exit but it's so pretty that it's certainly worth stopping and standing and enjoying each of the views from its own particular angle, which of course is the way these gardens are designed. They are strolling gardens, so the idea is to walk along with your eyes open and stop here and there, look this way, look that way, and enjoy all the different views as they unfold.
Sometimes you'll get lucky and come across a beautiful scene like this that just has a strong personal attraction for some reason -- you just can't take your eyes off it, you can't leave it, you just have to stop and look, and walk one way, walk around the other way, come back again and just drop everything and enjoy this vista.
The rocks, of course, are not carved rocks. They are natural rocks but they are carefully placed into each spot so that it looks natural and yet it's been shaped and cultivated in an ideal way.

Kyoto, Japan, Temple Gardens: Fushimi-Inari-Taisha, Tofuku-ji, Maruyama Park
Kyoto is Japan’s majestic city of ancient temples, serene gardens and superb cultural treasures. Your most enjoyable activity will probably be strolling through artistically designed garden landscapes with their winding paths, tranquil ponds, stately trees, lush vegetation and traditional wooden temples, including Fushimi-Inari-Taisha, Tofuku-ji and Maruyama Park.
The sublime gardens unfold as you walk along paths that lead through changing vistas around each bend, where you can stop frequently to absorb each new perspective looking left, right, up and down. The different views are enhanced by small statues, foot-bridges, bamboo railings, temple back-drops and glimpses of distant mountains, all exquisitely arranged to be appreciated in moments of reflection.
Kyoto was ranked as the number one visitor destination in the world by the readers of Travel and Leisure magazine for two years in a row in 2014 and 2015, quite an honor.
More than 50 million visitors come to Kyoto each year, most of them are just staying for the day then moving on, but about 1 million of them do spend the night in a local hotel -- there are lots of accommodations of all price ranges -- and most of the visitors are Asian. No doubt with the growth of Chinese travel these numbers are going to continue increasing.
These crowds of visitors could very much interfere with your appreciation of Kyoto’s heavenly gardens. So, try to visit during the less-busy late fall or early spring in order to properly experience the tranquil garden atmosphere.
This movie is a combination and expansion of some earlier shorter videos on Kyoto.

Maruyama Park, Kyoto, Japan
In this video we made our way via train to the city of Kyoto and the famous Maruyama Park. The main entrance to the park is through the Yasaka Shrine, which sits at the eastern end of Shihjo Street in the Gion District. The park is noted as the main center for cherry blossom viewing in Kyoto, and can get extremely crowded at that time of year (April) and it was! As we have seen at all the parks the young girls get all dressed up in their spring kimonos and take pictures with their cell phones. Some ever have professional photographers following them taking shots.

Takoyaki, grilled corn, grilled chicken, fried chicken, sausage, apple candy, grilled chestnuts, oranges, etc.
This is a video shot with 4K images quality shooting with SONY FDR-AX60 spatial optical image stabilization and ZHIYUN WEEBILL S stabilizer.
There is no extra audio or BGM in this video.
This video was shot from January 1, 2020.

A walk around Maruyama Park in Kyoto
Maruyama Park in Kyoto is a great spot for hanami (party/social gathering for the cherry blossom season). It's different at night but the daytime sees lots of tourists snapping photos. A very fun, almost carnival atmosphere!
