Mombacho Volcano Natural Reserve Kids Hike in Nicaragua!
Another great thing to do when you live in Granada, Nicaragua is go hike a volcano! Mombacho Volcano is only a 15 minute drive from the center of Granada and is a great family destination especially during the hot summer months when it is a good 10 degree cooler at the top.
There are three hikes to do and the one that Aiden and I did was around one of the dormant green craters. It is a relatively easy hike for kids ages 6 and up and can be finished in 1 1/2 hours. It is a gorgeous cloud forest at the top and has beautiful views of the surrounding Lake Cocibolca and the islands and the Laguna de Masaya and even other volcanoes in all directions.

Mombacho Volcano-Nicaragua-Canopy and hike
Mombacho is a stratovolcano in Nicaragua, near the city of Granada. It is 1344 metres high.
The highest regions of the volcano is home to a cloud forest and dwarf forest, which contains flora and fauna that are endemic purely to the volcano. An increasingly popular tourist attraction, the volcano has fantastic views of Lake Nicaragua and the city of Granada. The volcano also has two hiking trails, a moderate one that circles the main crater, and another more difficult trail (El Puma), which must be led by a guide. The more difficult trail is the only way to see some features such as the dwarf forest. The trail is almost completely 45 degree inclines and declines for about two miles.

We hiked the El Crater trail while we visited the Mombacho volcano. It's one of the easier trails to follow, so I highly recommend it.
The vistas were amazing and the vegetation and fauna we encountered were one of its kind!

Mombacho Volcano Cloud Forest
Mombacho is a stratovolcano in Nicaragua, near the city of Granada. It is 1344 metres high. The Mombacho Volcano Nature Reserve is one of 79 protected areas of Nicaragua. Mombacho is an active volcano but the last eruption occurred in 1570. There is no historical knowledge of earlier eruptions.
The highest regions of the volcano is home to a cloud forest and dwarf forest, which contains flora and fauna that are endemic purely to the volcano. An increasingly popular tourist attraction, the volcano has fantastic views of Lake Nicaragua and the city of Granada. While cloud forest today is the most widely used term, in some regions these ecosystems or special types of cloud forests are called mossy forest, elfin forest, montane thicket, dwarf cloud forest, nuboselva, bosque montano nebuloso, selva de neblina, bosque nuboso, bosque de ceja, selva sublada, nebelwald, wolkenwald, forêt néphéliphile, forêt de nuage, unmu-rin, bosque anao, foresta nebular, mata nebular, matinha nebular, floresta fe neblina, floresta nuvigena, mata de neblina, matinha de altitude, floresta nublada, and floresta pluvial montana e/ou alto montana.

Reserva Natural Volcán Mombacho se encuentra ubicada entre Masaya y Granada. La distancia que esta de la capital de Nicaragua es de 53 kilómetros llegando al empalme de Guanacaste, como a 2 kilómetros esta la recepción donde se compra los boletos y pulceras.
En la reserva natural encontrara una gran bio diversidad de vida silvestre como monos, perezosos, serpientes etc.
A mitad del camino que dirige a la sima esta café las Flores donde se hace un receso de 15 minutos, ahí podrá tener subvenir y por supuesto tomarse un café.
Al llegar a arriba tendrá que pasar por la oficinas de la Reseva Natural donde le explicaran acerca del volcán y los diferentes senderos que se puede hacer.
Encontrara miradores donde observara parte de Managua, Masaya, Granada, laguna de Apoyo, lago de Granada y las Isletas que son producto de erupcion del volcán Mombacho las cuales son 365 Isletas.
El turismo es muy variable por que encontrara turistas nacionales y extranjeros buscando hacer senderismo travel el puma tourism.
