BELIZE Episode 6: Placencia Town and Monkey River
This is the final episode of my Belize trip. Placencia was a fun town mixed with locals and tourists. Storms were on an off all the time. We witnessed a very special drum and dance ceremony. Our last tour was going to Monkey River by boat. We went up river and then into the jungle on foot. The jungle was covered in mosquitoes, even more than Oregon mountains in the summer. We saw some howler monkeys at the end.
I hope you enjoyed my week of Belize videos! It definitely was not my usual video production. Everything was done on our phones. It was fun but I am glad to be back in Oregon. Let me know what you want to see next.

Belize Monkey River Boat Tour
Explore the wide diversity of wildlife while on the Monkey River Tour in Southern Belize. Leave the resort for an hour drive on the Southern Highway to Placencia Village. From here, a short boat ride down the southern coast takes you through the Monkey River. View the beautiful flora and fauna of the broadleaf-subtropical forest from the river bank. View iguanas diving into the water, troops of Howler monkeys racing through the forest, birds darting from tree to tree, crocodiles sunning on the river banks and occasionally a manatee or two. You will also stop for a hike in the jungle, to view medicinal plants and other wildlife, including birds, insects, snakes and monkeys. After your adventure, you’ll return to the remote Creole village of Monkey River to share lunch and the friendly hospitality of the locals, home to about 200 residents- mostly fishermen. After lunch you will return to Placencia and then back to the resort.

Trip From Placencia Belize up the Monkey River for the Jungle tour. Highly recommend if you do this wear light weight pants, shoes, socks, and a long sleeve light weight shirt. If you do not wear this you will donate a lot of blood to the skitters. Lots of great views and saw interesting birds, crocs, monkeys, insects, and spiders

We stayed at Chabil Mar Villas in Placencia. Percy, our guide on the Monkey River tour was awesome. He picked us up by boat at the Pier at Chabil Mar.
Since he was born and raised in Monkey River he was very knowledgeable and his personality just made the whole tour come alive.
